Golf cart with Indiana plate 34E2942 please stop throwing your lit cigarettes butts out of your cart and onto the cart path. You're giving other smokers a bad name. There are portable ash trays you can buy that would keep our beautiful hometown clean and safe from brush fires during this dry season.
Thank You

My guess that INDIANA throws his butts out the car window too and the golf cart is no different. Me? I would try to get INDIANA'S attention and ask them ever so nicely to please not do that. If INDIANA buzzez you off, then so be it.

It has happened. A few years ago near the intersection of Buenos Aires and El Camino Real two guys in golf carts got in a real brawl. Some serious punches exchanged.

My home backs up to St. Charles in the Village of St. James and I pick up butts at an average every third day or so. I usually get between 12 and 20 each time I pick them up. I got a prize last time ... a stoggie butt. I know there are also alot of construction workers in my area but come on, have a little respect please. :cryin2:

I don't, someone has to take a stand against these idiots. Smoking is a nasty habit that you should not force on others. I would rather find dog poop in my yard than a cig butt. Rain will take care of the dog mess about 30 years before the butt.

I would personally approach this person and politely ask them to refrain from throwing their cigarette butts out of their cart, as I would approach anyone who is littering. With the lack of wet weather it is such a fire danger and so poor for the environment.

Geezzz, do you like litter? Especially hot burning litter that could easily start a brush fire during the dry season? Just saying dispose of your butts in a safe clean fashion and have some consideration for the environment. Is that too much for you to grasp? I am hoping that by posting this then maybe, just maybe the guy would read it and get an ash tray for his cart. This is a much better way to approach the issue then a direct face to face confrontation, don't you think? Sorry if you think it's petty, I don't.

Okay, I'm a smoker and I'm in the camp that says no, this post has not gone too far. I'm also a Californian and I've seen the devastation caused by a lit cigarette tossed out of a car window. Not a pretty sight. Think I'd be picking up this man's butts and waiting til I have a decent collection. Then, I'd follow him home and leave them with a portable ashtray (get one at the dollar store) and a note on his front porch stating these were his butts picked up from the period X through Y and a simple request to please use the ashtray. You don't have to confront him and, who knows, the simple request might work.

It's not just animals losing their homes. We could lose ours as well! We are in brush fire season (lots of them in this region of the state and up until last night it has been VERY dry here and it has been windy for the last couple of weeks), many homes in TV are frame construction, and most homes are pretty close together. Why increase the risk of a fire in our hometown?

We all have a choice in how we get our opinions across, remember the reason why we moved here and to keep it The Friendliest Home Town. Sometimes I think smokers truly don't realize that tossing that "butt" is litter. It's not fair to TV, it's aggravating and just plain rude for the rest of us to watch. Sometimes you have to just sigh, shake your head but more important "try to keep the peace." I'm just saying......

I applaud Lady Lake! :clap2:
From the POA Bulletin, December 2011, Ask The Chief, page 18
"In accordance with the Florida Litter Law, the Town of Lady Lake will be posting the following signage: Extinguishing and tossing cigarettes into trash cans or landscaping creates a fire hazard. Also, improper disposal on the streets, etc., is considered a littering violation. Do not dispose of butts in the streets, on the sidewalks, in the landscaping, or in the trash cans. You may be subject to receiving a citation from the Lady Lake Police Department. As Per: Florida State Statute # 403.413 – Commonly known as “The Florida Litter Law”. Chief Nathanson has warned that, ―…While voluntary compliance to this law is preferred, for those that make poor choices, the Lady Lake Police Department will be enforcing this law! We want to continually strive for our friendly community to reflect its beauty and cleanliness. Working together, we will be able to keep the Town of Lady Lake and America clean!‖ Always remember that together we can make a positive difference! Until next time - let's be safe out there!"
Chief Ed Nathanson, Lady Lake Police Dept.

I have to chime in on this one even though the squirt qun posse will be after me. There's a reason that TV is so beautiful and one of them is we because respect the grounds we walk on, ride through and admire. If someone isn't mature enough to realize that they are pooping up this beautiful place we call home then they don't belong here. Weather it be trash, poop or cigs, be respectful and put it where it belongs and on the road isn't one of them. Shame on that person in the cart who throws his cigs out for everyone else to "enjoy". I thought when people grew up they grew to respect their world around them. Wishful thinking. This subject makes smoke come out of my ears! Pun intended!
There's a reason they make ash trays, garbage cans, poop bags and so on. Not to mention the fire danger. How would you all feel if one of those butts caused a fire in TV? Our beautiful place would be tainted not to mention the possibility of homes or lives being involved. When something stinks, we need to find the culprit and let them know they are doing wrong.....in a nice way...:cus:

I was about to say I must be wrong until I read this post. I agree with you. We have became to political correct and too afraid to point out wrong doing. I was raised in a small Midwestern town that if you spit on the sidewalk, everyone in town that saw you do it would confront you about it and; hence, no more spitting on the sidewalk. Now to insinuate that if someone flips a lit cigarette into the street or your yard is not worthy of correction in my opinion is not the way to act.

02-24-2012, 04:43 PM
It is not wrong to call someone to task for wrong behavior. Especially if that behavior impacts others.
Joe's initial post made his point without being threatening or accusatory; I also note that he used please and thank you. And what better way to make that point other than in a forum that reaches 18000 people?
Imagine if Joe had said the exact same thing to the lawbreaker in person. As many posters have pointed out...good chance of escalating to verbal or physical confrontation.
There are enough instances where we can't even remain civil to each other in posts
on this forum yet there are suggestions of collecting butts or whatever and presenting them to the person at home...are you serious? It's pitiful and pathetic enough that two men brawl in public...imagine the consequences of a confrontation on someone's own
property or in their cart.
As posted above, there was a time when a "hometown society" could challenge an act like spitting, and the wrongdoer would change his/her behavior. When did society get so reversed where a wrongdoer can continue inappropriate behavior and person who calls that person to task is ridiculed for not minding their own business and is often chided for being
a tattletale?
Happinow
02-24-2012, 04:54 PM
It's not a tattletail. It's called holding people accountable. No one is held accountable anymore and that's why the world is going to hell in a handbag. I'm not saying anyone should not be polite in addressing a problem, but people pretty much tell you to "f" off if you question their wrong doing.
I get so riled up about this because where I live it has become a haven for those who don't care anymore. Where my business is, we have cars pull up and dump their drinks out in our driveway, empty their ashtrays, leave trash behind and spit in the driveway. We once asked a smart axx girl to pick her cigarette butt up off our driveway that she had just thrown down. She called us every name in the book. She had no regard for our property and the fact that we now had to pick up after her fat axx. (the x is for s, but didn't want to swear). We held her accountable and she didn't like it. If more people were held accountable for their actions the world would be a better place. I say get that person to pick up their butts!! By the way, she picked up her butt!!

Thank You
Indiana plates give the country of registration with the first two numbers. 34 is Howard county which is in north central Indiana. Its largest city is Kokomo (all sing along). Other communities can be found on the Wikipedia page for Howard county.Howard County, Indiana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_County,_Indiana)
Now go through your Villages phone book and find everyone from those towns and start making phone calls. You can't find the owner of each license plate online. Have fun.

How timely this post is! I was actually driving my golf cart home from Spanish Springs yesterday with hubby (the backseat driver) in tow. Why is this so remarkable? Because it was my first time! You see my hubby injured his leg and now I am the pilot of our cart and not the backseat driver. Anyway, back on topic...the golf cart lane was coming to an end so I signaled to merge into car lane to make a right onto St. Charles Place. I did look and had plenty of room to merge but this car speeded up in order to get I front of me. Not only did she scare the heck out of me but she actually threw her cigarette butt out of the window! How in considerate...I would have gone after her but there was a cop on St. Charles ticketing carts. Seriously though folks, if you smoke use your ashtrays and be considerate of golf carts merging with carts!
