It seems that anytime you question another's thinking in the posting of a political thought, that the Moderator is going to delete it.

Nobody can know why it was deleted.

Was it off topic? (I guess the poster's thought process is off topic)

Was it inflammatory? (only nice political thought here please, no confrontation)

Was it personal? (I think anytime you challenge someone else's thoughts it's personal, but what do I know)

But it's deleted and no one knows if you just responded personally instead of just discussing the nonsense you just read, or if you were merely and arbitrarily deemed "off topic", or if you really and honest to goodness chewed someone out.

I know all the crybabies (the crybabies who flood the Moderator with their stupid outrage) won't like that I posted this thread. I'm just wondering if it's going to be deemed improper on it face and be deleted.

Nice and frilly politics......Bah!!

I agree that some posts are just rude and hateful and should be deleted. But in many cases deletions are ruining someone's diabolical fun. And if posters in political can't take the heat they should just unsubscribe. The lion sleeps tonight?

Point taken...but if you look back, the deletions are primarily instigated when one member calls out another by name and includes insulting, uncivil, or disrespectful language. You just can't call someone else an idiot, ignorant, "off theirMeds", etc. As we've often said, discuss the post, not the poster. Follow-on posts that simply add fuel to the fire or bait others to attack are then also deleted.

There seem to be two camps.... Those who want a serious discussion of issues and those who enjoy mud slinging, name calling, baiting, etc. We will never please all of you in our moderation of this forum.

there are times when it is necessary to call out an individual poster by name so as to not tar others with the brush intended specifically for the offender.,,in my opinion.

Disclaimer: The following is NOT directed at anyone specifically so it probably shouldn't be censored. If, however, anyone of you feel that you could be described as detailed in the next paragraph, I sincerely apologize. I mean you no harm.

I figure that, if we Libs (as we are so affectionately called) can distract the far-right fringe here in Political, we are doing TOTV a favor in keeping the majority of TOTV pleasant and purposeful. The streets of The Villages are safer with them being occupied in the privacy of their own homes. Rumor has it that many of them have been seen wandering the halls of their homes in their underwear, drinking beer and scratching their bellies (and other areas) while screaming slurs and epithets to imaginary beings. I know it's a public service, but someone has to make the sacrifice.

please check with the previous board administrator[s]...i believe the info you post above is the reason the political forum was started AND placed on a subscribe requirement.

Just a bit of advice if I may and then away....

PLEASE begin to enforce the copyright laws and require folks to validate claims with links. THAT alone will cut down on the emotional, non factual accusations made ! If you reduce that aspect the responses will tone down.

Not comparing but the past administrators tried to enforce that already published part of the laws on here to prevent people from just making things up.

Now I believe that's just the opposite of the truth. It's the liberals who can't stand the heat and "call mommy" every time their feelings get hurt.

I have only reported two posts...don't remember by whom.....and that was because of obscenities.

I've had posts deleted that had nothing to do name calling but addressed the deletions. Those were deleted as being "off topic".

Some I've had deleted began when someone could no longer debate my points and addressed me personally. I don't mind, but I usually respond, albeit with less vulgarity. It always pleases me when my "opponent" runs out of ideas and resorts to the personal comment. It used to be that I could respond to that, as long as I didn't get vulgar. Times have changed

1) The current administration will remove post that are directed at another user or insulting or baiting in nature as previously mentioned regardless of the prior ownership(s) position.

2) If you see a post that is in copy write violation click the triangle in the upper right corner of the post to notify us for review.

This is the point. Political is a "member only" site, like you say. If you can't stand the heat......well, you know the rest.

Nobody wants the vulgar name calling that's gotten many thrown off this forum (although we have many who've come back with new identities), but a little rough and tumble is to be expected in Political.

RICHIE...I agree AND I disagree.

Rough and Tumble...no problem WHEN DISCUSSING ISSUES.

But the name calling of both other posters or public figures displays, to me, a real serious character flaw not matter whether vulgar or not.

I have a real problem with anyone who makes fun of a public figure simply because the poster does not agree with them.....that kind of behavior, in my opinion, speaks DIRECTLY to the character of the poster.

That and the accusations that are presented here are absurd...and NOBODY supplies any validation or links to back up what they are saying. You just cannot come on any forum an made accusations of people just because you dont like them.

I know you dont agree with me in total, and perhaps I am looking for an idyllic situation but I used to come here to calmly discuss issues and learn.

Sorry for butting in...and now folks like $%^^& can have the forum back.

Used to be on here if you got tossed you could not come back.....not sure how they controlled that but a few other forums sprung up as a result.....I guess my way of thinking is....discussing politics on here is no different that discussing it in my home and in my home, I will not tolerate the name calling that has gotten out of control on here.

I write my posts, read them, re-read them, and then decide if I want to post them. I delete a lot while in the exam mode.

Public figures are fair game for comments. I am not going to make any apologies for my comments on public figures.

I am not going to call any forum member by a hurtful or foul name. I hope that will hold the same for any forum member to me.

I agree with you 100% on this post. The public figures and their actions and words are fair game for derision in my view. I should be able to comment on your personal attack on a public figure without it being deemed a personal attack on you, though.

I know what Bucco is saying above, but that's just a little too idealistic for me.

Not surprised !

I suppose on my way out, I apologize for being idealistic and just comment that people who find it "ok" to call anyone names whether they be a public figure that I disagree with or another poster make me uncomfortable. If I cannot make my point without reducing to calling names then maybe I will just shut up.

Enjoy your forum

Richie is right on this matter. By making a comment on a public figure, it does open the door for a personal comment but we are all adults and hopefully can take it without getting mad.

I would hate to see Bucco leave. He does have some good posts and thoughts - even if they are on the opposite side of the aisle from me.

Moderator: I happen to agree with you and had offer that exact advise to my employees over the years. Don't attack the person address the issue or concern.

Bucco I also agree with you. Its one thing to offer an opinion and if one does then they need to make it clear that it is their opinion. However if they are presenting something as fact or quoting an expert then the poster has an obligation to cite such authority.

Its called the :Political Forum" not the "Dirty Dozen".

Buggyone: I also give careful consideration to what I post to be certain that I went it sent. Some posts just are not worth responding to and some of my post nay not be beneficial or add something new to the mix so why waste posters time.

Admin" I cherish my freedom of speech like all Americans but some posters let their emotions get the best of them. And so I do appreciate your judicious monitoring to prevent the diminution of this Forum..Thank You

This forum was doing just fine until a few people with rude, nasty, one sentence posts joined.

It used to be that people would have intelligent conversations...now it's just turned into a playground for immature amateurs.

Dale, I'm really curious. Why would you support shutting the Political Forum down? If it offends you, and since this is a "members only" Forum, why wouldn't you just unenroll?

it remains a mystery why folks will complain about this forum and still keep lurking and complaining or those who read and write.
If one does not like it please leave. That is the only realistic solution.
It is bad enough we were made to be different members from other users of TOTV, and moderated much more closely than other forums to keep it "civil". Now one would dare suggest to shut it down because they don't like what they read, hear and mostly interpret....there is not an icon or emoticon allowed that appropriately expresses my opinion of such a presumptious expression...even if it is to only jerk some chains!!

There's the door!!

I'm not saying I really disagree with your "hopes" for more genteel dialogue, but the real world makes it hard to accomplish. If you're able to hear what you hear without responding with exasperation, more power to you.

When I hear a public figure say what in my opinion are outrageous things, it is hard to separate the outrageous ideas from the person himself, who most likely has a history of these ideas and needs to be called out on them.

If you do in fact leave the Political forum, it's will be a bit diminished by your absence; but if the conversations are too much on the side of impropriety for you to handle, I understand.
