Was just looking at the 360 degree photos of this Villages preowned home and there is a small fenced area attached to the house. It's even described as a "dog run" in the description. Is this different that the fencing that is not allowed except in CYV's? If I was able to have something like this, I would be more excited about looking at houses as opposed to CYV's. Thanks!

Everytime I play Mallory Hill GC on the Virginia 9 there is a home with a small fenced area. It's right behind the 8th green in open view of everyone. It's the only one I've ever seen so it always catches my attention. I didn't see an address on that listing but I just looked at a map and that home on Mallory is on Duncan Drive. However, at $169,900 that couldn't be it, the lot alone would be over a 100K on a golf course. Call your salesman or the listing agent about that home, ask them about the dog run, he could find you the answer.

I feel the exact same way, which is why I bought a CYV (courtyard villa). Take a look at a virtual tour online of a CYV and if that doesn't suit you then I would look somewhere else.

My parents retired in 1983 to a smaller version of TV called Timber Pines. It's about an hours drive southwest from here in Spring Hill, Florida. They had the same deal there, no fence and not even villas with fences. So I guess it's something that is common in some of these type communities. It does make for a very clean look when you drive through the area, which I guess is part of the sales pitch.

Of course it's all up to the developer, he apparently loves horses so they have a huge polo field with grandstands and polo matches. He also likes hunting wild life since his brushes with the law in that area has been posted on this board and one trip through the Lake Sumter Sales Office you can't help but notice all the animal heads mounted on the walls. I guess that's his thing and dogs are not.

Dogs are no problem at all. If you train them to do their business in YOUR yard you'll have no problems. That's what we did. I wouldn't think of allowing either of our two dogs to use a neighbor's yard for their latrine.

We found an area in Hemingway of houses WITH fences. One street is Nash Loop. I'm not sure if there are any of those homes for sale right now or not.

TV is VERY dog friendly! Everyone loves your dog -- just not your dog's poop! The dog parks make wonderful depositories for poop, but disposing of it at your home can be a real headache, especially in the summer when it's very hot!

You have a right to allow you dog to crap or pee in your yard. You do not have a right to allow your dog to use my yard.

When he/she lets you know it's time for business, make sure he/she is on the street or sidewalk. Then you can clean up without complaint. DON'T let him/her poop on anyone's lawn. (I don't you should walk your dogs on other people's lawns anywhere -- not just in The Villages).

Notlongnow, yes there are a lot of threads which are critical of dog owners and I can see how you might get the impression that there is a dislike for dogs in TV. Let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. TV is very dog friendly. It would be interesting to know how many homeowners here have dogs, but there are thousands of us. And the majority of folks I’ve met who don’t currently have dogs have had them in the past and love the opportunity to interact with the dogs they meet. I’ve yet to personally meet anyone who dislikes dogs, although I’m sure there are some out there, but they must be few and far between.

Having said that, as you’ve already seen, dogs pooping and urinating on private property gets people really riled up. I am a dog lover, I’ve had them all of my life and have them now, but even so, it irritates me when people walking their dogs allow them onto my property. My backyard lawn, which is where my dogs do their business is damaged. We have spots and continually over-seed the spots to keep living grass back there. We don’t usually take our dogs in the front to do their business because we try to keep the front lawn as healthy and nice looking as possible. So, you can see why it would be irritating to have other dogs use our front lawn when we don’t even allow our own dogs to use it. The poor people who have corner lots get lots and lots of dogs making pit stops in their yards. And once a dog marks an area, other dogs are attracted to the same spot.

When I walk my dogs, I make them stay on the street or sidewalk. If nature calls while we are walking, then they just have to do it in the street. But I’ve found that doesn’t happen very often because before we go for a walk, I give them opportunity to go to the bathroom in our own yard and once they are on the street, they aren’t “stimulated” by the scents of other dogs like they would be if they are allowed to wander into areas with grass and other vegetation. There are plenty of dog parks and “green” common areas where dogs can be dogs. In the hot months when the street is to hot for them to walk on, then I put them in the golf cart or car and transport them to an area where they can walk on grass without trespassing on private property.

The bottom line is, we must have respect for the private property of others. It doesn’t matter that you “pick up” after your dog...allowing them to even walk onto other’s property is no different than say a human walking through their neighbor’s yard because they prefer walking on grass. It’s trespassing and a violation of the homeowner’s private property rights.

Carvello Drive is a lovely quiet area. A lot of houses back on the owl preserve. That tiny little fence is nicely tucked in beside the house. I doubt any neighbours would have complained about it. But I am amazed a Real Estate Company would advertise it as a dog run!!

If you are worried about fences, a courtyard villa is definitely the way to go. Some Villas are quite large. You can get CYV's with high walls all around. Or if you feel claustrophobic about all high walls, you could find a CYV on a view lot, where the back fence is only a few feet high.

We did exactly what Barefoot has said, bought a CYV with a low fence with a huge view and we have two dogs-an English and Irish Setter. Easiest way to deal with dogs it seems to me in The Villages and contain them from bothering anyone. Also it will be great because there will be dog doors to the back so they can come and go as they do now where we live on a half acre. I loved some of the big homes, we have a big home now. But the dogs rule and the needs of the dogs and respect for the neighbors had to be paramount for everyone to be happy. We bought a smaller place (because of the lot and view) with a very large yard and built a huge bird cage which also has a dog door so they can go from the villa through the Florida Room dog door into the bird cage through the birdcage dog door onto the grass. Gives them a little excercise along the way going through two dog doors to get relief!

We're moving down in late April into Fernandina (Ardsley Place) and certainly hope dogs are welcome. Amy LOVES her walks and we have lots of friends up north here (dog friends and people). I hope TV doesn't mind having cute pups that are respectfully walked (my wife always cleans up after her). On our trip to pick out all the options, we stopped and met someone walking a Bichon (same as our dog) and we chatted awhile and shared experiences. I guess we'll find out what our neighbors think.

Hello; we just got from TV visiting our lot and checking out the area again today.

We are also going to be in Fernandina on Braddock Ct. 2nd steet from the corner on the West side. we are hoping to be in by June if our house sells.
There are a lot more homes going up since we were there a few weeks back.

Our solution:
We have 2 small shi tzu/ maltese brothers named Ben and Jerry.
We talked to our current landscaper here in Orlando and he suggested planting Holly bushes as they grow to the ground. We'll make our own "run" so we can at least put them out in the morning and evening. Removeable lattice on the inside where no one else can see might work too.

There is love for the people in ones life and then there is love for ones dog. I am not ashamed to say I love my dog.
However I can't always control when my dog does what dogs do naturally. I always clean up after her and would never just let her go willy-nilly where ever she wants.
I hope people can tell the difference between a dog just going poo with no malice and someone who just lets it happen and walks away.
Sometimes, most times, dogs like to walk on grass and not on pavement or concrete when the temps are high.
Well if I get to live there and my dog is still with us I hope I don't upset my neighbors with something like this.

We knew the dog's names before we knew their owner's names. And, yes, we live on a corner with a hydrant. Needless to say, dogs do their business but everyone cleans up after their own. Our neighborhood is the best! As far as disposal, most bought small stainless step trash cans they hide next to the garage behind a bush outside and you empty it on trash days. No big deal. I wouldn't expect dogs to walk on hot streets most of the year, they walk on the grass edge. Most of the dogs here are very little. In our case we have a full-size collie who only likes to go in her own yard so no problem. She goes first or waits til she gets back from her walk. As long as you carry a poop bag and clean it up right away, that's all we expect and have been happy with the result.

I wish I could move there now. I will not retire for another year or so. Pennecamp is an area we looked at a year ago when we visited. We really liked it there. Hope to be snowbirds at least in a couple years.
I have a 5 year old Italiano Spinone, kind of a large dog but sweet, does not bark and love everybody.

When we move down in late April, we will be on the lookout for all the types of dogs we love. We had 3 collies (2 sable and white and 1 tri-color). All have past and now we have a Bichon (Amy). Whenever we pass someone up here in PA, I ask my wife who is that and she responds "Miki" (or Czar or Bailey, Jackson, Phil, Ike, Jenna, Gibson, Sammy, Tiger, Andre the Giant [toy poodle], Chadwick, etc.). No mention of the humans! We're glad Amy is allowing us to come with her to live in the Villages! She can't wait to meet all her new friends.

$30.00 per month for two dogs, what a bargain. And they clean up after your dog! The only negative is that our dogs are addicted to DDRR and must visit there at least once a day, sometimes twice. They are in a state of intense anticipation every morning, and stare at us until we take them to run and play.
