View Full Version : Recommendations for Laying Sod?

We purchased our home in late August and have spent most of the time since working on interior upgrades.

Now that spring is approaching we are beginning to plan for upgrading our landscaping. We like to do a lot of the work ourselves, but some projects are best left to professionals. I am looking for any recommendations for someone to lay sod in our front yard. The current grass is patchy and the soil looks quite sandy so I am hoping to find someone who will test the soil, amend the soil (as needed), remove the old grass, and put down new sod.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Massy is doing part of our front lawn for us. We had a problem with mold that killed several large patches of grass. They are going to tailor a program to get our lawn back in shape.

Thanks for the info! Is Massey doing any of the work now, or are they waiting until the spring (so there is not a chance of frost damage)?

Massy is starting Tuesday. They are putting down the sod very soon. They have taken orange paint and marked off where we need the sod. They will spray round-up on it and let it die. They will cut out the sod with a cutter, then lay new sod. They said the work is guaranteed.

If your looking for zoysia grass, you should check with Allen Sod. They did our whole lawn and it is beautiful.

I'm still laughing about your reply. My wife thought it would be a great name for a sod company.

We ended up going with Allen's Sod. While the job is still "a work in progress," we've been very happy so far. today one of the guys accidently broke a water line (some of the holley they were removing had roots that had grown around the pipe). We had water gushing out of our side yard but they had an irrigation guy out in less than an hour and he had it repaired. He said if our water bill was unusually high to let them know and they would pick up the tab...that is good customer service.
