Maybe they would be happier in Iran.

That would only be returning it back to the way it was before 1954.

Most of the clubs here in The Villages open their meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance to the US flag. We have lots of Canadian snowbirds here as well as some Brits. They stand up in respect and just do not say anything. That is fine, of course, since they are not Americans.

In a school classroom, I kind of wonder if the same would be tolerated of foreign exchange students. I imagine it would be the same.

If an atheist child did not want to recite the Pledge with the "under God", why wouldn't the child just skip over that part - no one would mind or probably even notice.

I do not believe anyone (adult or child) would be punished in any way if they did not want to pledge allegiance to the flag of the US - even if they are a citizen - as long as they stand in respect of what it means to others.

First time I ever agreed with you.

...and I totally agree with Buggyone on this one. No one is going to go to jail for not saying the words. Grow up and show respect.

But it is only a start. Next they'll want all references to God removed.

Good one, my friend. I like it. You're wrong a lot :), but you're still American.

I find it incredible that the same people who would march if the government wanted to censure porn and violence from our society support actions that remove God and goodness. The secular emphasis on a society is not beneficial because it leads to a selfish society. Just look at what is happening in our society now. I will always pledge "under God" because our country is greater than any one man women or organization. God Bless America!

Why would you say such a silly thing. Iran is a religious state these people would not be happy there.

I would like to point out that the orginal pledge did not include "Under God" Just going back to the basic pledge....

Ya might be wrong about the nobody missing that part. Kids always make a big deal about ones who do not conform. Happened to me in school with refusing to read from a non Catholic bible. Parents told me not to....

Want to see Atheist's find God. Just drop them in a foxhole in the time of war. Surprised how fast they change. Been there seen it happen, 4 time vacationing paid for by Uncle Sam to the Jewel of The Orient.

In all honesty, that's exactly what I do. I simply do not say "Under God" when I recite the pledge. (Well, since the 1980s anyway)

To date, nobody has ever noticed it.
