One of the highest crime areas in Georgia.... If you go, try to stay at the Mariott on River Street and only venture out during the day. If you do go out at night, walk with a large group and "AVOID ANY DARK AREAS." River Street is nice at night, but in a group. You can do the Historic Tours during the day. Wet Willy's is fun. Get a nice cool adult beverage, sit by the river and watch the BIG ships pass, but like I said, be in your room by dark.

We just visited there last week for the first time. Took the trolley tour which was OK for informational purposes but the drop off points weren't always close to things we wanted to see. Enjoyed all the parks and historic homes as well as the waterfront. All in all it is a lovely city. Hope you enjoy!

Good information to be aware of. When we were there we walked from the downtown area back to our hotel (Hampton Inn) after dinner. The streets were empty and a couple of areas were creepy. We walked quickly and didn't linger anywhere.:)

We go there a lot and always stay at the Doubletree at 411 W. Bay St. - beautiful hotel and walking distance to most everything (City Market, Telfair Museum of Art, River St markets, restaurants, Lady & Sons) Forsyth Park with the beautiful fountain is walkable, if you don't mind a little further. There's a little shop, the Savannah Bee Company on West Broughton Street that's a wonderful smelling place to go to...you can buy anything from handmade orange blossom soap to honey roasted coffee to wonderful creams and lotions. Hope you enjoy your trip!!
