First of all,

Welcome to The Villages, and

Welcome to TOTV!

You will learn heaps so long as you pay 'ttention here!

I think that most would agree: you need to be super cautious with landscapers.

First of all, have a pretty good idea of what you want, especially whether it will suit Central Florida's environment (drought-resistant, frost-resistant, among other criteria).

Second, never, ever, give the landscaper anything major in the way of a "deposit." Suggest that you keep any so-called deposit at no-more-than 25% of the bid's quoted total cost.

Third, do not provide a final payment until you are 100% satisfied with what has been provided to you!

Sadly, many landscapers have earned a negative reputation here in The Villages. However, there are many whose reputation is "perfect." It is a matter of careful research, however.

I frankly won't provide any personal suggestion because of the elapsed time since my first landscaper and that of my last!

I completely agree with swrinfla about being wary of certain "so called" landscapers in the Villages. Unfortunately they have hurt many people by claiming to be a good landscaper and just have a truck< trailor< and a mower. Theres more to it than that. I 100% recommend KGL Landscaping for all your new landscape rennovations. They have been there from beginning to end and then some. They will take care of you for years to come and can answer all your landscaping questions. If you want their number you can pm me for more info. I have trusted them even though I have been here a few years I am new to talk of the Villages. They are who you want to call. Welcome to the Villages. I'm sure you'll love it like we love it!!!

Mansfield did one on my block on Evinston and is dong mine now. The owner is Steve. I think he is awesome. His crew caught a mistake another company made and saved us some heartache later. You can see their work if you drive by on Evinston Ct. we will be happt to talk to you. When he is done I will post before and after pictures.

Mansfield has been around for over 20 years and has a nursery you can hand pick your plants. He know his business. Check it out.

I used Sabrina MacGowan too. Sabrina, her husband Patrick and their workers were fantastic! They have a very good reputation in the Villages. Check out their website at S.McGowan Landscape & Design - Home (http://designbymcgowan.com/).

We used McGowan's Landscaping to do our front yard last year and have them scheduled for March 12 to do the back yard. Great group to work with and pricing was very good. We can't wait til the 12th to see them work their magic...........

We just had work done by Custom Scapes in Fruitland Park. Everyone who has seen the job has asked who had done it. The owners (Lance and Sarah) are wonderful to work with. They are on time, stand by their work, and completely professional in every way. Their crew was amazing, as well. Prices were very good, and I will call them for any future work I need. Happy to show our new garden, if interested. Contact us by email. Good luck!!

Do not use Createscape, alias Tropical Landscape and Design, alias Joe Preston. He took our deposit and never returned.

We used TriCounty Landscaping and they did an amazing job on our front yard. We just hired them again to do the back yard around the lanai.

Suggest you avoid KGL or Kevin Gokey Landscaping based on my ecxperience.

Heard fro neighbors that Mansfield and Deans are excellent and neighbor's yards and plants are beautiful. These companies stand behind their work, do not require $$ up front and replace plants that die or don't do well--more than once.

Exterior Spaces - extremely knowledgeable, own their own local nursery and very reasonable. I get suspicious when contractors show up in a $50,000 pickup. Exterior people (owners) are not flashy but are down to earth. Stacy (mother) and two sons KNOW landscaping. They are on route 301 in Oxford. 352-461-3234. My villa is the third house I have had landscaped. I used them for the third - I wished I knew about them for the first two. Call Gene and his brother and you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely, google any business owners name and past acquaintances at same business location under different business names and a free google search public records tell you all you need to know. A little research saves much heartache later. 5 minutes and a couple of clicks later is all you need. If what you find this is the definition of down to earth Oh My!

Absolutely do your homework. Do not use Joe Preston of Createscape. He will take your money and not return. If you have any doubts, You can always call Seniors against Crime at the Sheriffs office.

I've seen his work, sorry to disagree but not very creative, he's only doing it a few years.

We used "Mansfield landscaping" just a week ago and could not believe the professional and remarkable apprearance of the job. You tell them what you want to spend and they explain what you're going to get. They bring out more plants than you need just so if you don't like what you selected they will switch and change anything you like or want within your budget. If you don't like any of it they will take it away and there is no charge. Also there is a no money down until you're satisfied. GREAT PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH!! they also have a wonderful nursery in yalahala,fl. Jerry holbrook in Fernandina. come by and see our plantings any time. call 4107262681

Bobby from Village Palm Landscaping did a wonderful job on our property.
He came up with a beautiful design and was mindful of what we wanted.
Was easy to work with and made our landscaping around our home look like
it has been there for years. Job well done Bobby.
Village Palm Landscaping workers were very pleasant and respectful

First of all --- slow down and do take heed of the advice you've been given. Don't assume that recommendations for a particular landscaper will meet with your personal approval. Take a ride around TV's and look for things you like or dislike - better yet, if you already have an idea of what you want, take it to one of the reputable landscaping businesses in the area and have them show you what it will look like before you make a final decision. A good and reputable business will have this technology..... But, most of all "take your time." Three weeks here seems a bit rushed to make such a major decision....

jimbo2012

better yet if you don't want to look like your neighbors yard, hire a landscape architect, take that plan and shop landscapers to bid one the same design with the same plants....

compare apples to apples

We've been here for 7 years, own 5 properties here so we have experience with landscapers. ONLY only use TPM Palm & Topiary 1 352 507 6776.
Totally reasonable, reliable, and guarantee their work. NO payment up front like many of the companies require around here.
NEVER use Exterior Spaces out on US 301 - bad bad business practices. If there's a problem you'll never see 'em again.
