Have some guests that will be traveling back and forth to Disney from TV for a few days and wondered if there was a best route and/or a shuttle? I have heard there is a "backdoor" way of going that lands you right at the gates.

Take Turnpike South to Rt 429 (pretty well marked) and it will avoid the whole rt4 mess.

Agree. 429 is a nice new freeway, goes close to Disney.

From the Villages
FL Tpk south
exit 267A onto RT 429 South (toll RD)
Exit 8 onto Western Way
enter Disney from the back follow signs
This way there is no traffic

:agree: We've taken various routes - Tpk to 27 then south to 192, 27 all the way down to 192.......and then tried the route you mentioned the when we went to Disney a couple of weeks ago. Note that 429 is also a toll road.

Never tried going on down to I-4.......for the same reason you stated! :D

avoid all the Leesburg mess on highway 27.

Take Buena Vista to (brownwood) Highway 44,
Highway 44 to Highway 27 (watch out for the hard right on 44 about halfway there), at that point you're out of Leesburg pretty much.

44 to the turnpike, turnpike to Tollway 429, down to exit 8 is disney.
it's quieter and easier. one hour just about to the minute from here.

(My wife is a Disney-holic, I've made this run in my sleep!!!)

Am driving UP from one of the Disney resorts in a couple of weeks, so I'm writing all this down (backwards, of course!). Thanks very much for the input. When I come on Hwy 44 to The Villages, where do I get off to go to where to pick up the Trolley Tour?

You can take the Trolley Tour from the LSL Sales Office - see #69 on the pdf map:

http://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle/images/maps/SM_MARKET%20SQUARE.pdf

From the TV web site:

The Lake Sumter Landing sales and information center is open every day from 8am to 7pm.

The Villages Sales & Information Center
1000 Lake Sumter Landing
The Villages, FL 32162
(800) 245-1081

Not sure of the exact times they run the trolley tours - differs by time of year, I believe.

You can use any internet mapping function or a GPS to help you with the best route to the LSL Sales Office from your location.

We just got back from the special "Leap Year Celebration" at Disney (and got the t-shirt!). We have annual passes and go once a month. The earlier posters got it right--use 429!

This is how we go each time:

466 to 301
Make left on 301
Make rght on CR 462
Make left on CR 221
Make right on 44a
Make right on 44
Make left onto 75 South-Get into left lane to get on FL Turnpike South
Exit Turnpike at exit 267A onto 429
Take 429 approx. 15 miles to SR 192 and follow the signs to your resort or theme park.

Yesterday it took us 88 minutes to our Disney hotel from our house in Alhambra. Today coming home it took 82 minutes door-to-door.

Wouldn't it be easier to just continue south on 301 into Wildwood through the intersection of 301 and 44 to the turnpike entrance off of 301? Why do you go so far west to pick up 75?

I originally thought that your suggestion was best (and tried it), but upon looking in Mapquest their recommended route is actually 3.1 miles shorter (from my house). Looking at a map, 301 actually meanders east (southeast) so you end up going east to eventually go further west on 44 to meet 75.

The 3.1 miles in distance isn't a big deal. My route takes me on roads where there is no stoplights, the speed limit is 55 mph on county roads vs. 35 mph for long stretches of 301, and the roads are virtually unoccupied (vs. 301 traffic near Wildwood). Also, going on the turnpike sooner allows you to proceed at 70 mph vs. staying on a slower portion of 301 for a longer period. Try them both and let me know what you think.

I'm still confused, but as long as this route works for you that's all that matters. I'm close to 466A so we just go 466A to Powell to 44 to 301 to the turnpike.

What I don't understand is going further west on 44 to meet 75. Still don't get why you would go west to 75 when the turnpike is right there in Wildwood. But like I said, if it works for you

I don’t understand what you mean. The turnpike entrance off of 301 is just a short distance after you cross 44. If you take 44 to 75 and then come back down to the turnpike you are just going in a circle.

I guess what it boils down to is that taking my route, once I am on I-75 I am essentially already on the turnpike (actually only on 75 for a quarter mile or so then I get in the left lane and am already on the turnpike). Once on the turnpike I can go 70 mph (or a little faster). Taking 301 is usually slower--35 mph at its slowest, 55 mph at its fastest with Wildwood business district (and associated traffic) thrown in to boot. I've gone both ways, but I know which one gets me there faster.

I'm sure it all depends on which area of The Villages you're coming from. As long as it gets you where you want to go that is all that matters!

True, but my wife says we should try going directly on 301 to the turnpike again because it has been a while since we last used that route. I'm going to try it when we go back to the Epcot International Flower and Garden Show in two weeks. I might have to report back here that I was wrong.

Sorry Cappy, I got your post confused with another one. I thought you were taking 301 all the way to 44 and then taking 44 to 75. Upon re-reading your orginal directions, I see that is not the case. Sorry

You gave me great directions from a Disney resort to TV, but plans have changed and we will now be coming from our son's home in Winter Park. Is there a "better than" route from there, or pretty much just one way?

Thanks!

Approximately once a month AAA has a bus that goes from TV to Disney, Universal, and Sea World. Not exactly sure of the price, but I seem to remember it was approximately $40 (when you consider disney charges $14 to park plus the high cost of gas, plus tolls this is pretty reasonable for one person but not economical for two or more). It leaves in the morning, drops off at Disney, then goes to drop off at Universal, then drops off at Sea World. Returns to TV in the evening. Call AAA for details.

Once I'm inside Disney, I tend to get turned around. What signs do I watch for to get me back out to 429 for the return trip home?

You should see signs for SR-192 when you exit. Be sure to take 192 WEST when you exit and you'll see signs to 429. If you go east you hit all the traffic/congestion east of Main Gate.

Down thru Brownwood. Makes sense.
I used to go out 301. I'll be adventurous!

How much does the toll cost on 429?

I'm sorry, I truly don't remember. We have SunPass so the money is automatically deducted from our SunPass account. It wasn't very much, I seem to recall $.50 or $.75, but I truly don't remember.

According to this.....

Expressway Authority : Toll Calculator (http://www.expresswayauthority.com/corporate/travel/tollcalculator.aspx)

.....it comes out to $1.25 paying cash - get on at Hartzog Rd., get off at the Turnpike.
