I have heard the Chargrills do not last more than two years. If we are going to build in a grill, we do not want to be replacing every two years. Anyone have information on this? If they don't do well, we will bring our Weber and not put the grill in.

About ten years ago, my wife and I tired of having to replace our grill every few years. We went out and bought our first Weber and have been happy with it ever since. We just replaced it with a new Weber because we left the old one up north with the folks who are renting our house. I know there are one or 2 other brands that rate as high as a weber, but I am sticking with them.

We have a Weber too which is wonderful. But do they make the kind that can be built in to the summer kitchens or are they free standing only?

This is the only ones I could find.

shcisamax.... not sure where the notion of summer kitchen grills only lasting 2 years is coming from. All of the summer kitchens I've seen are built under a roof with at least 2 walls around them so they are pretty well protected from the elements. I don't have one, but, my neighbors is 5+ years old and no problems yet. These are high quality products.

I recall someone saying their standard WalMart/Home Depot standalone grills wearing out ... and, yes that can be a problem if they sit outside a lanai and are exposed to the elements.

It would be good to hear from someone who has had a Villages-built summer kitchen for 10+ years....

Villages07 I will have to go back to see who said that. But there were two different people. Could you please tell me what brand your neighbor's grill is and who put it in?

I had said that our gas grill has never lasted more than 2 years. We do live in Upstate NY and use our gas grill all year, even in the snow. We had one large gas grill that cost 500.00. We would use that one in the summer and cover it in heavy plastic to store out on our patio for the winter. We would buy a cheapy 99.00 grill to use in the winter (a small one to fit in our garage with our car) and both grills need to be replaced after 2 years. The outside of the grill stays pretty good but the guts wore out and rusted out after 2 years. So we now only buy the cheapy one. Maybe when we get in TV it will last longer because there is no harsh weather. We'll see.

At 24K for the summer kitchen it better last longer than that.
I hope they are not using Charbroil which at best is usually junk.
We have a 7 year old stainless steel Jenn Air and it still works great and sits on our patio totally exposed.
Can anyone verify what the grille brand is?

We have two grills here located in different spots hooked up direct to the main propane tank. One is a CharBroil purchased in 03. We have replaced the burners 2 times at no cost due to a lifetime warranty. My favorite grill. Puts a "nice scald" on it.

Well, I guess there is no consensus on Charbroil. So it looks like whatever you get, you should feel comfortable it will do the trick.

The stainless steel Weber Genesis is the only way to go IMHO. I Have model
LP56506 and cook everything on it that I can cook in the oven. In fact I haven't used our oven in over 1 year. I even bake cornbread, cupcakes and layer cakes on it, that's how precise the temp control is. My last Weber Genesis 1100 lasted 15 years and has moved with us from Florida to Pennsylvania and then Vermont. With a little ingenuity you should be able to adapt it to a built in summer kitchen.

We had a propane Weber Genisis in stainless steel for 8.5 years in Maine, Kept it outside year round with a Weber cover. Loved it. Never had a problem with it. Sold it when we moved to TV last fall. Hated to see it go, but wanted a natural gas grill here in TV.

Have a Weber Summit in stainless steel now. There is a learning curve using natural gas instead of propane, but I am getting the hang of it now.

I love our Weber grills.

So is Summit a natural gas and Genesis propane? We had a Genesis and it was great but it was stand alone. The only insert we see is a Weber Summit. The gas we use here is propane. Fire Magic is incredibly expensive. We would like to build a summer kitchen...not another house. Anyone know about American Outdoor? KeithWand, I would be you have Fire Magic.

So is Summit a natural gas and Genesis propane? .......

In looking at the info on Weber's web site (Weber Grills and Accessories (http://www.weber.com/home)) regarding those two lines of grills, it sounds like both can be had in either natural gas or propane versions.

I always thought Genesis was the highest end of the Webers. When I look on forums, they seems be both top of the line but with different functions. Can someone clear this up for me? It would be much appreciated. Maybe Brilliant Bill?

I bought the el-cheapo grills from Lowes or Home Deopt for $99.00 and they seem to last a long time. One I bought approx 7-10 years ago sat exposed to the elements in the marina in CT where I kept my boat and still works fine. It has been knocked over from strong winds, underwater from the spring floods and the only thing wrong with it is that the Igniter doesn't work. Some surface rust, that's all.

I bought the same grill here in Florida 2 yrs ago when we bought our CYV and it too has been exposed to the elements. A little more surface rust than my older one in CT but it works fine. Guess I was lucky with both grills. Now I probably just jinxed myself by saying that they have been trouble free for all this time :)

Only downside to them is that they do not have a warming rack, but I can live with it.

We are looking for grills that can be insert for the summer kitchen. Free standing we would not hesitate to get the Weber Genesis again.

I have had a Weber in the Chicago area for 10 plus years. It is a stand alone, and I have used it summer and winter. I had thought about a summer kitchen in TV as I will be building this autumn, but in the end opted for the wet bar only. I will buy another Weber to use as I like the quality. I was a bit worried about the expense of replacing the grill should it die on me!

I had a Charbroil rot out in 14 months. The bolts which hold the burners in place actually crumbled like they were ceramic when I tried to remove the burners and I used were light torque with the screwdriver. I bought the Weber. It is much less expensive in the long run.

Wonder why this is? Our grill rusted out in a short time too. Is it the humidity?

NEVER had that happen in Ohio.

It happened in Ohio Hahaha. In the Akron area. Two of the three burners rusted in half and the screws crumbled. Fortunately, against my usual policy, I bought the extended warranty from Home depot. They were totally awesome. They gave me a full refund, sold me a new, stainless steel Weber for about half price and assembled and delivered it for free. I have sworn my allegiance to Home Depot. I will not shop anywhere else unless they are either out of a product or don't sell it. My guess for the inconsistency in the quality is that Charbroil multi-sources their production. China? Burma? Vietnam? Or perhaps there was just a bad lot of steel. Whatever the reason, I plan to serve you, Gracie, with some of my World Famous grilled chicken breasts if and when we ever get this home sold in Ohio. :MOJE_whot::MOJE_whot:

How do you dispose of an old gas grille?

T&D Screen just put in a summer kitchen and patio for us. The grills we used are ceramic Big Green Eggs...no rust! When I bought our large BGE a few years ago I also had a Weber Natural Gas grill, never used the Weber again after buying the BGE.
