I had a friend at the local dog park who seemed to be big into the Tea Party movement. Or, at least, his wife really was.
Since I have not seen him for a long time; I would like to find out more about this movement and was wondering what kind of reactions people on TOTV have to it?
I would guess that the 9-9-9 slogan is in the spirit of the Tea Party. Its major sponsor Herman Cain seemed to have too much baggage to really get anywhere in politics though.
It is an interesting idea to simplify the tax code.

Basically, it means you can get a large pizza from Godfather's with two toppings for $9.99.
Really, though, look at what Cain had spelled out in his tax plan. All tax deductions such as mortgage interest and charitiable contributions would be eliminated. This would hurt lots of people such as the homeowner who counts on that deduction and charities who count on people making contributions as long as they are deductible.
It does have some interesting points, of course. However, such a tax bill would have to be written by a Congressman's office, be introduced, go into committee, be rewritten many times so all parties could get exactly what they want in it, the final bill would take a few years to complete and would resemble nothing like the original plan intended and finally get voted down because it included doing away with an entire Federal government agency which would put tens of thousands of well-paid employees out of work. This would be labeled as a job-killer and would be voted down no matter how hard the President wanted it. Figure also there are many steps along the way to the final outcome that might send it back to a committee or kill it on the spot.

Wonder if Joe The Plumber if elected will lead the charge for tax change. He'll get to put his money where is mouth is.

No change to the tax coded will be needed when our money is worthless. Nothing plus nothing still equals nothing and that is what our money is be coming.
Interesting read on what happened to England after WW II when the pound was dropped as the World Reserve Currency and replaced by the dollar. Google it, you will learn that our way of life would change over night and to this date, there are some economist that say England still has not fully recovered.
We really do not need an income tax, all that is needed is a national sales tax, that way everyone gets to do their share. The more money you spend the more tax you pay.

This Joe the Plumber-- Joe the Plumber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_the_Plumber?). Would not think that he had all that much money for personal use. Perhaps, for his campaign, but cannot see him really having much of a war chest for his own use.
Looks like that will be an interesting race against Marcy Kaptur. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcy_Kaptur

if you want to learn what the tea party (taxed enough already) is all about, come to the American Legion hall any monday night....starts at six thirty but if you want to get a parking spot get there early...corner of rolling acres road and 466. you will see a room full of patriotic people. no more, no less. and you will probably hear an interesting speaker. then if you don't agree, you can tell everyone what dummies we are with authority! :)

Didn't Obama win that district in Ohio with 60% of the vote in 2008?
Bye, Joe (his name isn't really Joe) The Plumber (he's not really a plumber either).

While there is not much for anyone to brag about on the economy of Ohio in general, just imagine how much worse off it would be under a Republican like Santorum who has no economic ideas of any kind, a businessman with unscrupulous practices like Romney, or a man of no morals like Gingrich.
Of course, I do hate to bring up some of the people that have been voted into Ohio offices. There was Jerry Springer and Dennis Kusinich to name only a couple. Makes no difference as to the party. They were laughing stocks and made Ohio a laughing stock, too. Sort of the same as Minnesota with Jesse Ventura, Michelle Bachmann, and Al Franken. One more bunch of laughing stocks.
Don't feel you have to remind me of Florida being a laughing stock. First, the "Hanging Chad" debacle that showed America that Florida is too dumb to be allowed to vote and only recently Florida votes a suspected major Medicare fraudster in as the Goobernator.

"a businessman with unscrupulous practices like Romney,"
Is the above parroting the party's latest talking points or is there a real basis for the accusation?

no mention by me of expecting any where near perfection as most of us do comprehend the reality and vulnerability of mere mortals.
It is the not so subtle accusation that you distinguish him from the mere mortals even by labeling him "unscrupulous". How do you know that was the intent of my post!!

Please supply a link to validate your accusation of "unscrupulous practices"
and not things that are IN YOUR OPINION. You make very specific claims about people but supply no reasoning (assuming that REASONING does exist) for any of your claims, thus in addition to backing up your accusation tell us WHY economics in Ohio would be different under the folks you discredit !!
Thank you !!! And for once instead of making these general claims and accusations, be specific please and if your opinion..please tell us why !!!

So, you are saying that we cannot have an opinion. Depending on the source of a link, you can make anyone sound bad or good so IN MY OPINION, I think we need to keep opinions up close to the top. EXAMPLE: If you watch only FOX, you will come the hate liberals. If you watch only MSNBC, you will come to hate conservatives. Let me suggest you watch both and then give YOUR OPINION.

I am not going to waste electrons responding to you. I know your point is to have me put down my specifics and then you will refute those and ask for more proof. I am not going to play that game. If you do not accept my assertions, then don't.
However, just ask any person of a company that Romney's company took over, raided, sold all assets, and fired the employees while claiming a paper loss and gaining corporate wealth if that is a man with scruples or not.

Ok with me...as I understand it, we are able to come on this forum and just say things,,,,pass it off as our opinion and thats it...no explanations necessary.
WOW...that allows a lot of freedom for us...thanks..you have taught me that is ok to call people names and now have learned that it is ok to make stuff up and just say "that is my opinion" and it can be anything that I want it to be.
Thanks for teaching me how political discussion is to be held. I was so dumb thinking that you should not call people names, or make unfounded accusations on character and of breaking the law,but now I see that that is all accepted. I have been asleep at the switch.

No problem at all Bucco, glad I could help you. But remember, not everyones opinion is going to be correct, so be selective when you jump on any of them. If they are right, the majority will prove them to be so just like my predictions for Sarah, Perry and santorum. I love it when I am right about such important things. Again thanks for the glowing support.

I am so gratefull to you and Villager 11 for clarifying that you can simply state things about those you oppose on politics and never have to stand up and justify your accusations.
So, anyone could come on here and call the President a liar, a cheat or whatever and you cannot ask me to validate that or even ask me why I feel that way....what freedom...and then I can say, as you do, that you discuss politics...wow.
It also saves me time reading and looking at facts...wow, you two guys have saved me so much time.
According to what you are saying, I can even call the President names..that is ok and I dont even have to ever say why...just come up with something that is not good about anyone who I disagree with politically and it is ok.
I have wasted my time reading the NPR specials on his life in business or the Boston Globe series on it...what a waste....I could have just come on here and read your posts and know he is a crook...no, "unscrupulous"...what a waste of time my investigation of candidates has been. You can just come on and say it because of his party and that is all it takes....congratulations.
But, I like to read and deal with facts, so despite your educating me on how you do not need them....I will try to continue....sorry for being such a terrible person but thanks anyway

Bucco, you may think that Mitt is the best thing since sliced bread but you have to admit that Bain Capital was a corporate raider. He killed jobs and did not create new ones for every one that was destroyed. I am not making this stuff up. Just read the link by one of the Republicans and you see I am not alone in calling him a corporate raider and depending on which side of the employment structure you are on - does a person with good morals and business scruples engage in this kind of work?
Romney Depicted as Corporate Raider in Pro-Gingrich Group Film - Businessweek (http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-01-09/romney-depicted-as-corporate-raider-in-pro-gingrich-group-film.html)
I am sure Mitt is honest but an honest person can still be an unscrupulous businessman.

If President Obama gets re-elected my faith in the American voter will take a serious hit....Regardless of who is elected, Figmo, I don't think anyone's faith should take a hit as the result. Our system is supposed to be a democracy and whichever candidate is elected will be the result of a process. The majority will dictate the result.
Now if you want to lose faith in the process by which our election is being run this time around, I'd be right there with you. The virtually unlimited amounts of campaign money from special interests, super PAC's, endless negative advertising, proportional voting and a year-long campaign has lead to clearly unqualified or candidates, some with frighteningly narrow ideologies, running and remaining in the race for no other reason than to damage other candidates and confusing the electorate, I'll admit that I've ALREADY lost faith in that process.
We'll wind up with someone being elected as POTUS. But whether the process used to elect that person attracted the best and brightest candidates, and resulted in a fair and accurate vote by a well-informed electorate is seriously in doubt. The process is what we should lose faith in. I pretty much already have.

I never once said I was supporting Romney, although that is my lean considering the other candidates, but he has EXPERIENCE and with that comes warts....that is just how life is. When you are involved with so many functions and hold that many executive positions, you will make enemies and unpopular decisions....you can book that and if you call him unscrupulous because someone who opposes him says that, fine..your right to do that. I think having that experience both good and bad is what makes a good candidate. One of the reasons I opposed our current President was just that....absolutely no experience whatsoever in running anything at all.
But as long as people read BOTH sides of a person, that is why we have elections...I will never condemn anyone for voting anyway they want if they have done their due diligence and have an informed opinion based on all facts and NOT JUST SELECTED FACTS, either their selection or what it is in most cases, facts selected for them from bias sources.
If we have a PERFECT man running, as you think the current guy is and was, you better look twice because that does not exist !!!!
I might add that a link by Gingerich does not, to me anyway, qualify as a non bias view

Romney and his firm produced excellent results for their investors. In the process, they created thousands more jobs than were eliminated. Were they tough owner/managers? Yes. We're they dishonest, immoral or unscrupulous? No one has made that allegation with any kind of empirical support.
