Why yes, we had to "Pass this Bill so we know what's in it." Seems the more we find out, the less we like it and the more money it is costing us.

Ok all you retirees out there in the health care reform of obamas if you are not aware of in 2013 there will be a 3.8% sales tax on all real estate sold. Do the math folks 100000.00 home 3800 tax. This is what you have to look forward to. And I dont care to hear the support for obama this is a real threat to people selling there homes on top of commissions. Seniors are going to get beat up on this any way you look at it. Where do you want the money put your pocket. Any answer other than yes and your nuts.
Please post a link to the info.

It is not on all real estate transactions. It is only on "the rich". It is on profits over the capital gains threshold. Some of you may be surprised to find out you are rich.

As I recall, this tax applies "only" to those with incomes over 200,000 !!!
HOWEVER, this bill is just laced with little fingers that will invade all aspects of our life from 2014 and on.

You know I sat and this in 2010 and because of it is why I am so against obama. Him and his civil 6000 man army to help enact the health care. You folks have time read it for yourself.

Good grief.. Yet another lie. Yet another straw man argument.
THERE IS NO 3.8% TAX ON ALL REAL ESTATE TRANSACTIONS.
How gullible ARE some of you people that you'll latch onto ANYthing without checking your sources? Ten seconds on Snopes finds this:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/realestate.asp
That 3.8% tax is a *MEDICARE* Tax, for starters - not a sales tax. The tax is on CAPITAL GAINS, for another. On top of that, it's on PROFIT of ABOVE $500,000. So if you made a PROFIT of $501,000 - you would pay a tax of $38. That $500,000 is TAX FREE because of the homeowner exclusion that you can now take MULTIPLE TIMES in your life (it used to be a one-time only deal)
And, of course, you're aware that it's not just as simple as "I bought my house for $50,000 and sold it for $600,000". If you paid $10,000 for new windows 20 years ago, your 'purchase price' is now $60,000. You get to include all that stuff you do in home improvements and repairs. In my case, just over the past few years I've put some $50,000 in my house and we're looking at more later on.
So that "tax on all real estate transactions" is actually a Medicare tax on capital gains over $500,000.
So, DDoug, that example of having to pay $3800 when you sold your house for $100,000 is flat out WRONG. You'd have to get a house for FREE and sell it for $600,000 in order to pay that much tax.
I mean the following in all sincerity - DDoug - where did you hear this and is there a reason you didn't check it?

Particularly by the Senate, where the GOP can certainly block such a bill or amendment.
Beyond that, what member of Congress in his right mind would vote for such a bill? Talk about committing suicide in an election year for many of them.
I'm not too worried that this would ever pass muster or the Congress.

And I won't go into who passes laws and who only signs them to make them official (again).

Obama apologists? The OP's statement that "in 2013 there will be a 3.8% sales tax on all real estate sold" is mistaken.
It is NOT true.
It is FALSE.
Some might even say the OP's comment is a blatant out-and-out lie.
Whenever someone posts nonsense like this and is not able - or is not willing -to post a link backing up their statement, you can safely assume it's a lie. Probably something the OP heard Rush or Palin say.

Excuse me....if you actually read the thread you will see a post from me correcting the premise of the thread in a general sense.
My comment was to the two posters who came on to make fun of a mistake in understanding of the bill and joshed with them that they never contest claims from the other side that are even more silly,
You use of strong language should be reserved a bit for things that matter in this bill and the disaster it is..of course, being born of blackmail and backroom deals instead of a public debate as promised by Obama will do that to a bill that was to address health care COSTS and does not such thing in anyway.

All I can say is no, it's not. Snopes gets it's money from banner ads.
You don't even know the name ("Soros or whatever his name is")
Snopes addressed rumor that seems to have basically been started because people don't like what Snopes has to say.
Even the Air Force recommends using Snopes to debunk myths - we got emails on this to help non-technical people figure out when e-mails they were being sent were hoaxes. I *believe* the same holds true for other branches of the military (Full disclosure - I work for the Air Force and got the e-mails, that's why I know).

Bucco - "a bit out of line"?
Come on..
Everything in that post was wrong. He said you'd have to pay $3800 tax on selling a $100K house and that it would kill seniors.
Wrong on all counts.
He didn't know about the $500K exclusion. Said it was a sales tax..
He also didn't answer my question about where he heard it and why he didn't check it out.
At the very least, he's reporting misinformation.
More likely, he's being played as a puppet by people who know that, when they put something outlandish out there, there is a percentage of the reader base that will just run with it regardless and do more of their dirty work for them.
I would LIKE to believe that he's NOT the one responsible for the lies in the first place.
And what was his response? Repeating ANOTHER lie about how George Soros supposedly runs Snopes. Did he check that?
Well, he certainly didn't check Snopes:
snopes.com: About the people behind snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/info/aboutus.asp)
and Fact.Org also confirmed who runs Snopes:
FactCheck.org : Snopes.com (http://www.factcheck.org/2009/04/snopescom/)
Look.. I'm almost 50 years old. In that time, sometimes I've found out I've been wrong about a few things. I've had my opinions influenced when new FACTS come to play.
I confess I have a hard time in understanding how some people can cling to lies. As best as I can tell, they'd rather be thought of as 'wrong' than be embarrassed.

Well I've accomplished a little of what I set out to do . Question every thing and don't believe any one . Find out the truth and stop ashing for links. Look this stuff up for yourself. But I'll tell you one thing don't stop the fight against socialism, as that is where we are headed under our current administration.

This information and much like it comes from the constant emails sent around on BOTH sides of the aisle. I get them all the time and NEVER forward them without doing a bit of research.
I don't cling to lies and will admit when wrong.....I suppose my biggest thing right now as I just noted in another thread is the media. There are people on this forum who post almost word for word from tweets they receive and from emails and from totally bias sites...they do it blindly on BOTH SIDES and then say they are discussing politics...it is scary.....the media, and I include for better or worse, the internet bloggers are just terrible. It is scary to try to find out facts on any subject.
THEN, add to that this particular bill, NEVER explained to the public....and admittedly never even read by the Speaker of the House or those who voted to make it law...that makes for the media to twist and turn anything anyway they want it to go.
I will ask you now, if you ever feel I am clinging to a lie based on what I post, call it to my attention right away. I am saying things about this President now that I said in 2008 and still, in my opinion, think they are true and I will say over and over until proven wrong that this healthcare bill, conceived in secrecy, made law with bribery (see LA. for example) and smoke filled room deals and that did nothing we were promised it would do is a total train wreck that is just hanging out there ready to strike in 2013/2014.
So, you are right...lots of conspiracy things that folks hold onto,,but when you look into it, there are reasons...like this health care bill....what a con job. Oh, and I am betting that Pelosi still hasnt read it.

Don't get me wrong - I *get* the *desire* to have found out something nefarious and alert everyone about it.
But before one goes off on a crusade, one should at least check their facts!
And now DDoug comes back and says it was his intent all along to make people look stuff up for themselves? Sorry - in my circle of friends, we call that a "retcon" - short for "Retroactive Continuity" where never revealed historical stuff is made up that keeps from invalidating the original while completely changing everything else. Like when a cat walks quickly across a room and bangs it's head into a sliding glass door because it didn't see it and then walks away with the "I meant to do that" look on it's face.

Boy...I even feel bad saying this to you, but you should pass out the same advice to your liberal friends on here. You are totally silent unless someone criticizes this administration.
Dont get me wrong...your posts are for the most part well thought out, etc, but you have this criticism of some (pretty much if Obama is criticized) and ignore the other side accusations (pretty much of the Republican party) of total ignorance. Perhaps that is your game plan..not sure...but it is obvious, to me anyway.
You ignored my comments on the emails, you ignored my comments on the media, but you hung in there with your crtique of Ddoug. A false accusation is a false accusation no matter what your registration card says

I'll try to address these in order.
Right now, the majority of the 'straw man' attacks are by conservatives on the administration. In many cases, I've tried to stress that I have many disagreements with the administration. Like how I may be against Arizona's immigrant law BUT by the same token they felt backed into that position because of a failure of the government to do it's primary job - protect the borders.
I had a bit of an epiphany the other day as I was thinking about how often I defended the Bush administration from the liberal attacks (words like 'trained monkey', etc). It suddenly struck me that this is all like a game of "King of the Hill". Only this time, the Hill is Capitol Hill. Right now, Obama is at the top of the hill and everyone is out to get him.
When it comes to the vitriol, I tend to ignore people like Roseanne Barr. Her anti-conservative venom makes me just shake my head in disbelief (to pick one example). Bill Maher, on the other hand, has disappointed me with his increasing nastiness, particularly in his choice of words towards Sarah Palin. Heck, I share his SENTIMENT towards her but I would never express my distaste in such a fashion. I still watch Maher because, among other things, he invites conservatives on his show and debates them quite fairly (unless Palin's name comes up).
I have no 'game plan'. I'm here simply because I discovered a place where political discussion is NOT off-limits. It's privately owned so misbehaving members CAN be kicked off (as opposed to the Wild West of Usenet). The signal to noise ratio here is a lot better than in other places.
That being said, you mentioned that I ignored your comments on the emails and the media. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure which messages you're referring to (here or in another thread?). If it's what you mentioned about the health care bill in THIS thread, I believe I've made my opinions clear on that but I'll be happy to discuss any other aspect of it with you. (Short version - I don't like most of the bill and I think the mandate is unconstitutional - and that it's also welfare for private insurance companies who's first allegiance is to the SHAREHOLDERS - meaning sick people are profit centers for their shareholders)
My criticism of DDoug stood because I was genuinely curious as to where he got the information and why he didn't check it.
