as he personally lobbied the senate today to once again kill the pipeline project. Still hiding behind we haven't had sufficient time to look at it....and the dumbest statement ever...what's the hurry there would not be any drilling starting for a couple of years anyway. How very unstrategically stupid.

We have waited 40 years while the government has done nothing about energy independence.
What are the risks:
1. The project has already been cited as being more environmentally safe than any of the existing pipeline projects.
2. The project will provide a subsatntial number of new jobs.
3. The project would send a message to the mideast we are serious about getting away from them.
4. It would signal the USA and the rest of the world we are doing something that America needs.

Now why is it that Obama has chosen to make this bold move to make sure the bill gets killed again?
I am betting on #4 as a political pawn for friends in the middle east.

This should be an early Christmas present for the GOP. The national media is going to have to do handstands to spin this in the President's favor, but I'm sure they'll give it their best attempt.

Thank goodness they no longer have a news monopoly.

btk - isn't there some cozy connection between obama and george soros - the hedge fund manager who has millions of $ invested in brazilian oil company petrobras? any u.s. oil production/sales/use would surely cut into that investment!

if i was running the gop presidential campaign...there would be 2 ads...one of the potus refusing to approve the pipeline/jobs and the other of him supporting the solyndra grant...nuf said!

If you go to the Keystone XL website you can cut through some of the crap that the national media slings out. The project is very much alive and well and is working to solve the "Nebraska issue" concerning the route.

And as soon as they make a big enough contribution to Obama's campaign, Lo and Behold, it will be approved. SOS on the beltway.

I do realize that the Nebraska issue on where to lay the pipe is being worked on.......what I do not understand is the President actively making calls opposing an addendum which could have made this happen and allowed the time for the Nebraska issue to be resolved.

I cant figure out his motive....he sure is making the enviromentalist happy, but we keep stalling and this will be history. I also am one who believes in taking your time to do it correctly, but I can find nothing in the ammendment that would not have done that and in fact was the motivation yet the President makes calls to sway his own party away...and he just made it.

is that what is being offered as needing more months to understand?

You mean all the lawyers in government could not see the positive impact of approving the plan, contingent upon the resolution of Nebraska and any other red herring BS. It is such a no brainer, and as I said above, it is so important that Obama would openly work the congress to vote against it, KNOWING the sentiment of we the people about the lack of movement on his part about energy independence. To take that risk and expose himself to the negative reaction only emphasizes there is more to the subject that simply does not meet HIS AGENDA...regardless the risk.

If it is so alive and well then why the continual effort on his part to get it passed. He and the other legal trained can certainly wordsmith an agreement that ALLOWS passage, It is not alive and well because he is electing to NOT DO SO!!

I would really want to hear why the President opposes this pipeline.

Is it ALL environmental ???

Offering no opinion at this point, but from what I read this sort of flies in the face of what he has says AND still says about oil independence
