We see some creative names on here. How did you come up with your TOTV name? I came up with mine after being in a less than stellar marriage. Well, I finally got it right, hence the name Happinow. You wonder why I spelled it this way? Because I wanted my license plate to read Happynow but someone else already had that so I changed it to Happinow. My husband's plate reads Happitoo!

JimPete
03-09-2012, 09:36 PM
Jim is my given name and Pete is a family name earned because I was born on my fathers payday. I was called Payday at first, then PD, Petey then Pete.

When I introduce myself, it's always Jim. But Evelyn (wife) uses my family name. When we had our boat in the marina new dockmates would invariable get confused so everyone started calling me JimPete.

Jim :ho:

03-09-2012, 09:56 PM
Cappyjon431: I worked for many years as the captain of a liveaboard dive boat taking guests diving throughout the Bahamas and Belize, so that explains Cappyjon. When I was young and foolish I was heavily involved in the technical diving community and 431 feet was the deepest I ever dived in pursuit of the world deep-air diving record (which was 437 feet, 1 inch). Cappyjon431 is a combination of two of my hobbies, boating and diving.

03-09-2012, 11:36 PM
My TOTV name stems from my being a proud alumni of the New York Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps (http://nyskyliners.org/web/) which was formed when WWII ended in 1945. I was a brass playing active member during the 1978 & 1979 marching seasons. Being just one of the guys amongst literally thousands that proudly wore the red and black uniform over their 67 year history, I adopted the name skyguy79. And I'll bet some of you thought that I really flew around the sky barking while wearing tights and a cape! :D

Mine is my first name-Lynne with 2 initials from my last name LaFrance- lf. I was using this screename for quite awhile when someone repeated it back to me as two words, Lynn elf. I had never thought of it that way before but thought it was cute. So I've gone by Lynn elf for a long time now

Sort of a variation of Sinatra's Old Blue Eyes. And actually my eyes aren't that green, my contacts are. Here's the "rest of the story". Way back when I got my first military ID card through my husband, they had a lot more information on the card. It had height, weight (ugh!), eye color (Hazel), hair color (at that time brown), gender, etc. Went to the pharmacy on base, showed my card and waited for my prescription. After a while I hear the woman calling "Hazel Brown, your prescription is ready!" Took me a minute, then tried hard not to laugh in her face. I still use that name as a joke, or when I don't want to give out my real information. I know, TMI, but it still is funny to us.:D

When I started my first job, back in the dark ages, in Appalachia, running a large center, people there did not know what to do with a lady doctor. Neither did my male staff. I told them to call me by my first name. One day, my secretary, who was getting tired of telling people who were calling me that I was a female, she just said "lady doc can take your call now." The name stuck and I have been using it for a very long time.

Bill-n-Brillo.......hmmmmm.......

'Bill': That's the easy part. 'Brillo': A nickname I've always had for Sandy, what with her naturally VERY curly hair. Those who have met her understand. :D Some people think it's rude to call her Brillo but she likes it. Honestly, some people I used to work with always only knew her by that - they'd eventually wind up asking what her real name was!!

Initially, I was thinking of making my member I.D. ................ 'Hoosier Daddy'.

rubicon
03-11-2012, 03:31 PM
Briefly it is said that the name Rubicon derives from an event which occurred in 49BC wherein Julius Cesar crossing of the Rubico River ( Northern Italy) was viewed as an act of war by the Senate. Hence by crossing the Rubico was considered an irrevocable act , hence a firm commitment .

Being committed speaks to my beliefs in my marriage, in my work life with my friends, etc . My handshake is my bond and I have never gone back on a commitment.

This is a homage to a '60s British televison called the Prisoner. He was a secret agent who resigned and was kidnapped and taken to a place called, "The Village". No matter what he did he could not escape. He was called "Number 6". Well, you get the point.

I came up with the name Tom Hannon because it was the name my parents gave me when I was born. Actually, when I signed on with TOTV I was aware that the name I used would be my screen name. TV-4-2
04-01-2012, 05:18 PM
After learning that The Villages is (seems like it should be "are") abbreviated TV on most postings I chose TV as the first part.
Then, being diabolically clever, I substituted 4 for for (pardon my redundancy.)
On a roll by that time, I ingeniously used 2 for two, thus giving TV-4-2 (my wife and I as soon as we can sell our home.)

Not my first choice. I was supposed to be HVACman57 (occupation and year of birth) but the administrator felt I could be trying to solicit business in TV and so disallowed this name. Ducati is just the brand name of a factory prototype motorcycle I used to own. No idea why I chose that at the time. 1974 was the year of my HS graduation. Again, no idea why I used that either. Would have preferred my more descriptive first choice.

When I was a kid one of my smart little buddies, realizing my name "Marshall" for which most people called me "Marsh", was almost synonymous to "Swamp", felt Swampy was more appropriate than Marsh. BUT, in my neurotic insecure state I resented the name "Swampy". Now that I have the privilege of attaining the wisdom of "old age" I can't wait to be a kid again, and realize that Swampy is the "me" whom I most enjoy! "Its never to late to be a kid"

Many years ago I called one of my sons at his workplace. Another young man answered the phone. I asked to speak to my son and the fellow yelled across the room, "hey Kevin, phone call, it's YO' mama" and I have been yomama ever since....

Trish, I am improving. I am up north with the family for Easter, so that helps. Will be coming back to TV on Sunday. It will be hard but I am doing one day at a time. And praying a lot. Thanks for asking. When will you be coming to The Villages?
