This isn't really news for those of us who've known them, but Pew Research Center has discovered in it's research that political liberals are far less tolerant of people who disagree with them than regular Americans.

Their research found that "instead of engaging in civil discourse or debate, fully 16% of liberals admitted to blocking, unfriending or overtly hiding someone on a social networking site because that person expressed views they disagreed with. That’s double the percentage of conservatives and more than twice the percentage of political moderates who behaved like that."

Take the Rush Limbaugh controversy; Liberals are really outraged by his callous comments, and so they do their best to transform him into a sympathetic figure by demanding the FCC ban him. According to Forbes Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinham and Robin Morgan did exactly that when they wrote a piece for CNN which played right into the exact stereotype of the thin-skinned, hypocritical liberal. Those who support the First Amendment and the freedom of speech......until they don't.

The liberals do this because they've never been able to compete with Rush Limbaugh. Over and over it's been tried; most recently the by far biggest failure of the liberal faction of this country to entice listeners, the awful and defunct Air America.

As Michael Medved writes; "Attempts to create viable radio alternatives to Rush and other right wingers have never gained traction, so rather than continuing to compete in the open market place, lefties merely yearn to shut down the other side with sponsor boycotts, public pressure or, most obnoxiously, the so-called Fairness Doctrine.

It's fine if intolerant liberals who want to stop hearing differing opinions "unfriend", and "block" all those they don't want to personally hear, the problem is when they want government to "unfriend" and "block" so that no one has that choice, and that kind of intolerance is way more dangerous than humorous.

In support of your post Richie consider this information from William McGurn in WSJ 3/13/12.

"Bill Maher tweeting his disapproval of the "fatwa" agains Rush Limbaugh" Of course it had nothing to do with the fact that Maher has long called conservative women things far more vulgar...but he has continually gotten a pass from the media.

Apparently a foreigner, surveying our mainstream media was surprised to find out how frequently Isalamic terminology is used

To wit: Washington Post Richard Cohen opened a February column about GOP candidate Rick Santorum this way: "Mullah Rick has spoken." Cohen described Mr. Santorum political forum as a "fatwa" and fretted that the Republican's divisive approach calls to mind history's warning about "how the public square gets used for beheadings and the like" when religion "takes too prominent a role

To wit: On "Morning Joe", NY Times Bill Keller worried that Rick Santorum might be "creeping up on a kind of Christian version of Shariah Law."

To wit: NY Times Joe Nocera suggest that America has been horrified to watch the "jihad" that tea party Republicans were waging on the country and urged them to "put aside their suicide vests."

To wit: Chris Matthews, Hardball, likened Republicans negotiating the debt ceiling with the president to the "Wahhabis of American government.................

Rush Limbaugh aside, I have found this to be true for a long time. Just one of the reasons I quit working for and being a member of that Democratic party was the simple arrogance they had begun to show.

This forum is a perfect example....can bring up an issue and be willing to go back and forth with POINTS and expound on how you feel and what you will get is called a name, told how racist, insincere, whatever their opponent is and very very little inspiration or whatever to do any research on the issue other than the left wing sites they rely on for "news".

This is how the term "elitist" evolved in politics.

NOW, and I want to be clear.......there are surely cases of this same thing on the other side....FOR SURE. But I can only speak for my experience on this forum and if you do any research on any of the threads, you will find the left leaning posters screaming out names...making smart little one or two line remarks aimed directly at NON discussion.

I oppose this administration....BIG TIME, and I have always been clear about one thing. NONE of it is personal....he has done things I agree with and have tried to explain ON THE ISSUES why I disagree. As a result, it has helped me develop a tougher skin as the result is nothing but the short, concise little posts that leave you with the feeling you have been told, that WE know better and how dare you disagree.

I was shocked but not surprised that actual research has borne this out

Come on, you can do better than that to upset us elitist liberals. I'm disappointed in your feeble attempt at stirring up the pot. Must be a slow day for you, Richie.

This sort of relates to this, in my opinion, and would post this if it be Republican, Independant or whatever....

Vice President Joe Biden addressed 87 wealthy Democrats last night attending a fundraiser at the home of Sen. John Kerry in Georgetown. As they dined on grass-fed New York strip steaks and white truffle mashed potatos underneath a outdoor tent, Biden criticized Republicans for being out of touch.

“These guys don’t have a sense of the average folks out there,” Biden said according to the pool report, “They don’t know what it means to be middle class.”

87 guests paid a minimum of $10,000-per-couple to attend the dinner."

Now what we get will be the Romney quotes..AND they were out of line for sure also.

I always felt that the reason Air America and other left wing talk shows weren't successful was because the liberal talking points were already spouted by the main stream media. The talk shows had nothing new to add.
If you want to hear some major league vitriol remarks go to a left wing web site, Daily Kos, Huffington Post etc., when a prominent conservative dies. Unbelievable what is said.

Years back I was asked to represent the company human relations efforts as the New York Human Rights Representative. At one point I was to attend the annual convention of New York Human Rights in Albany New York.

From the moment I arrived these folks went out of their way to show their disdain of me stemming solely from the fact that I was white male and straight.

The regional director was an ex priest that had a heart of gold but was naive as a new born. Hoping to bridge the wide gap between our industry and the State I recommended a seminar regarding Human Rights violations/discrimination, etc Again much to my chagrin the Human Rights people had formed such a strong bias that it was virtually impossible to even begin a dialogue.

This experience and others while working as a Human Resources Director made it clear that I was not dealing with reasonable people

A prime example was and is the treatment of Sarah Palin by the likes of Matt Damon, Bill Maher Dave Letterman and many many more of the Hollywood elite clearly depicting the hate and nastiness that permeates their liberal elitist cultural. Worse yet the so called elitist could not stop themselves and continued with vile remarks concerning her family.

Its one thing to show disgust and disdain for murdeous leaders its quite another when applying it to people you just don't agree with and hence don't like.
