I have no experience with people who actually have schizophrenia but this article does seem to dispel some of the myths about it.

Saw a commercial about ten days ago that said that 1/6 Americans have some kind of mental illness. This was during an episode of Alcatraz on Fox.

Having dealt with a family member afflicted with this horrible disease, I can tell you it is indeed very misunderstood. The families who have to deal with schizophrenia have a very tough time, emotionally, physically and economically. The individual with schizophrenia has a rough road too, but the family...even more so.
