A poster mentioned that John Kerry did not serve in Vietnam. Well, that statement is bogus. However, let's see who did and did not serve in the military.
Barack Obama did not serve in the military.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney - did not serve in the military but did serve the Mormon Church on a 30-month mission to France.
Former Senator Fred Thompson - did not serve.
Senator John McCain - McCain's naval honors include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross. Why did the Bush campaign smear him so in 2000? At least Senators Cleland (D-GA), Kerry (D-MA), Kerrey (D-NE), Robb (D-VA) and Hagel (R-NE) defended him.
Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay - avoided the draft, did not serve (1). "So many minority youths had volunteered ... that there was literally no room for patriotic folks like himself."
Former House Majority Whip Roy Blunt - did not serve
Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist - did not serve.
Rick Santorum, R-PA, formerly third ranking Republican in the Senate - did not serve. (1)
George Felix Allen, former Republican Senator from Virginia - a supporter of Nixon and the Vietnam war, did not serve. (1)
GW Bush - decided that a six-year Nat'l Guard commitment really means four years. Still says that he's "been to war." Huh?
VP Cheney - several deferments (1, 2), the last by marriage (in his own words, "had other priorities than military service") (1)
Former Att'y Gen. John Ashcroft - did not serve (1, 2); received seven deferment to teach business ed at SW Missouri State
Jeb Bush, Florida Governor - did not serve. (1)
Karl Rove - avoided the draft, did not serve (1), too busy being a Republican.
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Phil Gramm - avoided the draft, did not serve, four (?) student deferments

You just had to add GW Bush in there even though he did in fact serve.
That's really bogus, considering the title of your thread.
It's a b.s. thread anyway. What's the point or the focus about?

According to this article of May 2010-"GOP caucus has 60 percent higher rate of service than Democratic caucus; 17 state delegations have no members with military background."
And this doesn't count Lt Col Allen West, Representative from Florida's 22nd Congressional District.

Allen West has a history of making strange statements. I have to wonder how he got voted into Florida politics but then I just have to think about the Floridians who actually voted Scott in as Goobernator. The Villages is a great place to live with great people here - just that the political scene is really weird. I don't bother with it when interacting with my friends, though. I just have a great time here.

I always wondered why a war-hawk like Gov Romney never served in the military. Where was he during the Viet Nam war? Since he's so anxious to go to war in Iran, how many of his five sons will enlist in the military to fight this war?
It's true President Obama never served in the military, but he was the only candidate who was against the Iraq war.

Don't know where you come up with "Romney is a war hawk". Is it just because he favors the US having a strong military and doesn't want to cut military spending?
Right now we have a President who apologizes that we are the United States of America.
I heard that, predictably, Obama apologized to all American Muslims after TLC canceled their "All-American Muslims" reality show.
(OK, that's a joke; but not out of the realm of possibility)

Is it true that Rick Santorum is going to guest star on Jersey Shore so he can counsel Snooki on the evils of contraception?

Here's just one of many articles on Romney's support of war with Iran. Plus all his advisors are former George W Bush neocons.

Let's not forget, in fairness to Romney, that Obama made it VERY clear that the military WAS an option to prevent Iran from getting a nuke. Romney HAS said that Obama took that off the table - to me that's Romney lying about Obama - but you can't gig Romney for being hawkish on Iran without noting Obama's stated policies are that way as well.

Gov Romney received a "ministerial deferment" from military service. So anybody can travel the world trying to convert others to their religion and not serve in the military.
This could be Mormons, Scientologists, Muslims, etc

If I understand this thread, you folks who keep harping on Romney and Bush feel that if you have not served in the military, you can not do anything aggressive to defend this country if you happen to be elected President.
This is pretty shallow stuff, but if that is the important stuff to you, then have at it.

Obama is a war hawk himself then. You got some "'splaining to do", Jan.

No "splaining" necessary. President Obama is doing everything humanly possible to avoid a war with Iran. Do you really think he wants $10.00 per gallon gas? He's got his hands full trying to mop up two wars in the mideast. If you don't believe me just google "Obama trying to avert war with Iran". Too many links to list.

I did not know Snooki is pregnant. Wow, an elitist pinko commie leftist socialist liberal like me is out of touch with the latest happening on Jersey Shore. Haul me off to Gitmo.

Under Obama, despite his campaign promises and indeed an executive order when he took office, Guantanamo Bay has remained open. Drone strikes have increased exponentially - it being judged easier to kill suspects than capture and interrogate them. Military trials outside the federal system continue, as does indefinite detention without trial.

Do you mean links by the extreme left wing media that carries his water?
Well, your own left leaning LA Times even posted the story of your war hawk President Obama promising that he "would not hesitate to use force" in preventing a nuclear Iran.
I'm not sure what you're reading.
