The wife and I have placed a deposit on a lot on Vanilla Leaf Place (Village of Sanibel?) and will be there in late April for the design meetings and contract signing. Looking for tips on what to look for during those meetings and what pitfalls to avoid.

Thanks . . . Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you fine folks.

Welcome! We are also in Sanibel and our house is on Adrienne Way, just a bit behind you. Where do I begin for the tips on meeting with your design team...What model are you building? I would first suggest that you try to read as many of the threads on building a new home...there are plenty of them. Stretch all that you can, especially the garage and the lanai. Get pullout drawers on your kitchen cabinets, your pantry cabinet and your bathroom linen closet. Put in extra outlets in the floors, you can also add as many outlets as you want and put them pretty much anywhere on the wall you'd like, we put all of our fans on dimmers and switches so we may control the speed from the wall outlet, we eliminated the dining room light fixture and replaced it with a fan as we won't use it as a dining room. We put recessed lights in the guest room and master bedroom, we also put french doors in the master so it went out to the lanai. There is so much more but I'm sure others will tell you what they did too. If you have specific questions you can PM me. We just went through the process about a month ago. It's a lot of fun and a lot of work. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want! Bring a bottle of water with you....you get really thirsty!

Welcome TerpDawg,

We're from Burtonsville, MD - my husband and I closed on an Iris last August at the Village of St James.

Take as much time as you need with the designer. We went back and forth to the model homes multiple times just to be sure of our choices. It may seem overwhelming at times, but relax and just enjoy putting your dream home together.

My wife and I moved to The Villages in Oct of 2009 from Silver Spring. Always nice to hear when more Marylanders come here.

We moved to Tamarind Grove last 4th of July from Harford County, we were right across from the new Wegman's in Abingdon. Can't help you with your Iris since we bought a CYV. One thing I do know about, we got tired of our $395 a month electric bill and now it runs about $95.

Thanks for the warm welcome from you Marylanders. We're in AA County and are very much looking forward to becoming TV Frogs. Barbe and I both play golf (she outhits me, but I keep score better).

We just got back from the Tamarind Grove pool and I heard someone in the pool say they wanted a Ravens license for their cart. We just met a nice couple from Pikesville, moved into a CYV in Biscayne Villas in Tamarind Grove last week. Since they're waiting on their mover to bring their furniture they spend most of their time at the pool and the square, sounds like what we did.

Barb,
We're also in Severna Park in the Kensington community. Are you folks already in TV or headed that way? The wife and I and both our young ones are AACC alums.

You will love it down here...

We are from southern Maryland and love it down here. When the dust settles from your moving, be sure and join the Mid Atlantic Club which meets every first Wednesday at Laurel Manor Rec Center. Members include all former residents of MD, VA, DE and DC. We have lots of fun and fellowship. Hope to meet you there...

Welcome to The Villages. We moved in on Feb. 22 and are in the Village of St James. For the time being we are part-time residents from Rockville, MD. We will be Back May 1 for a month. We joined the Maryland Club and went to our first meeting in March. You may want to consider going to a meeting. Again, welcome!! Roz & Dick

We wish we were full-time TV residents away from a county that now charges 5 cents for every bag you get in a store.

Gottcha, Radioman . . . AA County hasn't hit that low yet, but I'm sure it's in the near future given the state of Old Line politics. That's one of the reasons Mrs. Dawg and I will be down there April 20 for final decisions on a new home and to sign a build contract. We'll be on Vanilla Leaf Place in Sanibel after a slow transition of about a year. Getting anxious!!!!!

Yesterday morning we went for a walk on Odessa Circle and saw a home with a crab on the lampost sign and met the owner. He's Bob from Cockeysville, that's between Hunt Valley and Towson, they moved here last July. Then later on the walk we saw some Maryland tags on a car in Southern Star Villas, his name was Kennedy and they moved here last March from Elkton up in Cecil County. They were headed back today to help sell his house.

Sounds like we'll have a lot soul mates. What were your roots, John W?

To make a short story long, I was born in 1950 and lived in Perry Hall until my parents moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1959. In 1989 I was visiting relatives in Baltimore and ended up staying for the next 22 years until we moved here last July from Bel Air in Harford County. So I've live roughly 30 years in Florida and 30 years in Maryland with my time there split. My wife has lived her whole life in the Parkville area of Baltimore.
