Saturday, March 24, we're going all out to support the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County and Leesburg Humane Society with a very unique event. There will be two industrial paper shredding trucks in the parking lot of the Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital from 9 a.m. to 11:30 so folks can securely shred all their unwanted paperwork containing personal information. The Humane Societies will be on hand with dogs and cats that are available for pet adoption. PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY PAPER TO SHRED! 100 PERCENT OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO TO THE HUMANE SOCIETIES. No binders or bulk commercial items will be accepted. Great event to honor your pets and safely dispose personal papers and cancelled checks.

Knowing that I won't be attending the shreding event I went to see if a donation could be made online. I found the answer to be yes, so I proceeded to make an online donation.

Anyone would also won't be at the event but would still like to make a donation can go to the site and make a donation using PayPal or a major credit card. Click Here (http://www.hsspca.org/donate.asp) for the donation page.

Good to know, Nipper.

Thanks Skyguy. I can't go to the event because for sure I'd come home with another dog. So that is good information about the donation site.

Thanks for the reminder. I went last year and got rid of all my outdated files. I'll be going through the files again today --- spring cleaning.

Thanks for the reminder. Last year I was glad to see so many people taking advantage of a much-needed service for such a much deserving cause! It was gratifying to read in the Daily Sun that over $3,000 was raised. Keep up the good work.

Nipper,

What a good cause! Hope you can raise twice that amount of money.

My neighbor had a shredder truck show up at her house. What does that cost if anybody knows?

A cause worth supporting. Thanks Nipper.

Thank you all. I hope you'll be able to make it. It's a great cause. Sumter County HS/SPCA is trying to raise a million dollars to build a facility. They have the land, the building plans, and someone donated money for a beautiful horse barn. But all the cats and dogs are fostered --- they depend on the kindness of strangers. A couple of years ago, I think one truck was about $125 or $150 an hour. The sponsors pay for the trucks.

Yes. And it is good to see the Humane Society is finally taking a strong stance in the political arena to keep horse slaughter houses, a horrific slaughter, from returning to the USA.

I hope that you raise even more than $3,000 this year for this very deserving cause.

Sure would like to see a facility for the adoptable pets in Sumter County.

The final tally going to the humane societies is $2500 in less than three hours. Less than last year, but a buck is a buck and will help many homeless animals. Thanks for your support --- and my guess is that the shred will take place next year (2013) on March 23. Please mark your calendars.
