Santorum: Might As Well Have Obama Over Romney (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/22/rick-santorum-etch-a-sketch-mitt-romney_n_1373243.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D145920)

This seems like a very interesting article for the Democrats at least.

I know the Huffington Post is very liberal in its outlook.

Santorum added: "If they're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future."

It reeks of desperation and "if I can't have it no one can".

I have to agree. Santorum is whining a bit here that he couldn't get the traction he desired in these elections. Romney had the money and the feet on the ground in huge discrepancy to Santorum's more modest efforts, but that's life in the big city.

This is a bit embarrassing for Santorum, and I'm one of his supporters.

his mouth running no brain in gear remark is truly a sign of desperation and one that underscores he is approaching the election as an individual and not a party or it's beliefs or following. It comes across as me first....which they all believe by the way. The rest are just smarter at how they do it.

For a candidate who is accusing others of saying anything to get elected he certainly needs to look in the mirror!!

Frankly, in Pennsylvania and in this primary, Rick Santorum tends to get a bit full of himself !

According to the latest polls I saw today, Santorum is poised to win LA by a large margin tomorrow (Saturday). Governor Romney hasn't won one southern state with the exception of FL.

the true meaning of this remark is that the only way to excite enough voters to get out and vote for a BIG change from Pres Obama is to have someone who is in stark contrast to him....Gov Romney is not a stark contrast. but Santorum said that he would support whomever the rep candidate ends up to be....of course he thinks he is the best choice...i am sure they each do or they would not be killing themselves striving to win!

THIS IS A POLITICAL PRIMARY FOLKS...a primary !!!!!!!

That is what happens in PRIMARIES.......should we go back and dissect all the name calling between Obama and Clinton in 2008.

It is a primary !!!!!

I was a bit guilty of just reading a news story and accepting it against my own motto of "never believing the mainstream media". Now that I've gotten more into this story it appears Santorum was probably correct here. He's just pointing out that he believes there's not a lot of difference between Obama and Romney, or not enough to make a clear distinction.

Santorum's reference to the Romney team's stupid comments that if you don't like your campaign you can just shake it up like an etch-a-sketch and start over, does little to elicit confidence of a candidate's conviction. It makes it appear that Romney is "making it up as he goes along". I've always believed that, but now they're stupidly admitting it.

Mitt Romney's negatives with independent voters are higher than Hillary Clinton had in 2008. These comments coming from his campaign cannot help if they portray him as just the latest flip-flopper.

“You win by giving people a choice,” Santorum said during a campaign stop in Texas. “You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there.”

Santorum added: “If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future.”

Erick Erickson of RedState.com thinks it's clear from the context of Santorum's remarks that he was not expressing his own thinking, but expressing the thinking of general election voters, and thinks he is absolutely right, which is also why he thinks Romney makes such a bad nominee

He adds; "I think Santorum was spot on in describing how voters would see the race in November. Why would they want to give up a guy many of them like, but who don’t much care of his job performance, for a guy they don’t like whose own campaign admits is like an Etch-A-Sketch."

Romney is not helping himself here, and I find it strange that the mainstream media is providing cover for him here against Santorum.

That tells me something. The mainstream media wants Romney to be the one running against Obama, and we know they want Obama to win.

btkWhile I won't vote for Obama, I would stay at home before I'd vote for Santorum. Think about it. The guy's brain goes into meltdown when confronted with no greater pressure than a couple of election losses. What the heck would he do as President if faced with a really pressure-packed situation?

What's an even greater conundrum is why Romney can't seem to separate himself from such an obviously faulted opponent? That's a bothersome thought if Romney survives to run against the president in the general election.

Now that i know the story I'd have to say your description of what Santorum said as a "meltdown" is very misleading or the statements were extremely misunderstood by you.

Of course he's under pressure, but "meltdown"? That's very harsh and wrong.

Nice spin. I heard it and read what he said. He was whining.

regarding Romney being able to separate himself and pull from the Santorum followers.

That is a concerning state of the process revealing what a disparity of beliefs and wants there are in America (yes including the D folks too!).

It is unlikely, but a stretch possibility, Santorum could pull an Obama and come from nowhere having done nothing and surge ahead to win.

All we can hope for is that Romney continues to out pace Santorum in the delegate gathering process.

I personally favor Romney for his business background and that he is not a part of the business as usual gang in Washington. For me that puts him head and shoulders above the competition, and especially Obama.

Yeah, maybe it was a little bit of whining, but it doesn't make the observations of the writer any less valid.

This reminds me of a joke.... "Nobody is perfect, why I was wrong once! It was a time when I thought I was wrong about something, but as it turned out I was right".
