Are you using your Ipad as much as you thought you would? Is your desktop
gathering dust?

Last fall I purchased an iPhone, iPad 2 and a MacBook Air.......got totally Mac'd out! Love my iPhone, as it's the first smart phone I've owned. I keep the laptop in my lap anytime I'm sitting down and I use the iPad just for e-reading. My grandson loves to play Angry Birds on it and when I was back and forth from the hospital regularly for a few months with my mom, I always grabbed the iPad to bring along, as it's so portable and an easy way to access the internet.

I know that you can buy a wireless keyboard to use with it and that would alleviate my biggest complaint, which is about how difficult it is to "type" on the thing. I do love looking at and showing photos on the iPad, as the resolution is good (the "new" iPad is even better!). So, yes I'm glad I own it, but no I don't use it as much as I thought I would.

I'm using my iPad more than I thought I would and, yes, my 3 year old Dell PC Desktop is getting minimal use. I still do spreadsheets, taxes, long docs, most online shopping/banking etc on the desktop but almost all my internet browsing, TOTV, ereading, music, Facebook, and apps are on the ipad.

I had an ipad 1 for about 18 months and just got the new ipad. Faster, better screen res, better camera ... huge upgrade over the 1, maybe not as much so over version 2.

Still, for me, the ipad could not be a total replacement for a full size desktop (or laptop). It is great for consuming content, not so easy to create content.

I love my iPad, far more than I ever thought I would. I use it a lot, especially for browsing. The backlight is great for reading books, especially if you read in bed and don't want to have a lamp on. The iPad is so light and portable. Lots to learn with using Mac, if you're used to Windows, MEMason is going to help me with that. But my laptop doesn't gather dust .. I still prefer it for creating information.

The iPad is not a laptop or desktop replacement. To get the most use from your iPad, you really need to find the right Apps. It's all about the Apps!

Here's a link to a thread, where lots of TOTV folks wrote about their favorite iPhone & iPad apps and how they use them. You might find a few new uses for your iPad....

I have the 1st generation iPad, but I think it's high time I upgrade ;)

I use my iPad everyday. It's great for email, following the market, games, and browsing the Internet. It's also great to download movies for those long trips on the plane. And don't forget Skype if you have any family overseas...the free video calls are fantastic.

When I need Microsoft Excel, Word, Quicken or Turbo Tax, I dust off the keys on my PC and go to work.

Just bought a "gently pre-owned" first generation iPad. Don't need a camera, and I didn't want to sink $500 into a new iPad. Gotta say I really enjoy using it. I've only downloaded a few apps so far, but I'm sure that will change. I have not tried using TOTV on the iPad; I will have to try that. But I won't be giving up my laptop as occasionally I have to do real work (from my job) at home, and I don't think I could do my work functions efficiently on an iPad.

Wonder if Apple will keep pushing new iPads each spring? The web site I bought my first generation iPad from had quite a few first generation and iPad2's for sale -- probably from people who are buying the new iPad that came out a couple of weeks ago.

I sold my IPAD 2 on Craigslist the other day. Went directly to Apple and bought the new IPAD which is not called IPAD3 but has no other name. I use my IPAD a lot-take in it the car when my husband is driving, on the plane, shopping when I want to do price checks, great for looking up places to go or looking things up during a discussion. Great for browsing, email, Facebook, TOTV and then all the applications. The new IPAD has great resolution so reading on it, which I do a lot (it is almost the only way I read books anymore) is better than the IPAD 2 to some degree. Pictures also have better color. Otherwise, I would say it is pretty well the same as the IPAD 2, so unless you take pictures and videos with you IPAD 2, or want something a little easier on your eyes for reading, there really is not much difference. But I do love it!

We find ourselfs reaching for the iPad more and more. Wife really likes it.

Last week I enjoyed tossing it in the Harleys Tour Pak for the trip from Syracuse to TV new home.:cold: Battery life is incredible!

Not a replacement for the MacBook or ThinkPad but pretty darn close. I have it 3G capable and in SC the Hampton's wireless went down. Was able to surf and e-mail with the 3G

Of course they now come out with the new 4G model. Can't afford to trade it in. Anyone want a 6 month old iPad 2 3G capable. PM me!

Cherie got the New Ipad and I got her original Ipad as a hand-me-down. We have found we do most all of our email, word processing, spreadsheet and web surfing from our Ipads now. We visited our local Sprint store today to look into trading in our smartphones to downgrade our phones and service plan for just phone calls and texting. It'll save us about $50.00 per month in our phone bill. We have 4 desktops and a laptop for work and home use. We plan to just take one desktop and our laptop with us when we move into our home in TV. When our laptop or our desktop needs to be replaced, we will replace them with Apples. The Apple OS is so stable and intuitive. We will store our docs, spreadsheets and photos on the cloud and share them with our Apple devices. Two of our desktops are Dell w/ Vista. They both get the dreaded BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

I still use my desktop for email and for TOTV when I am at home. It's easier to type. I use my iPad 2, mostly for apps, to serf the net and to watch movies, either during air travel, or sometimes in bed at night if DH is asleep.

I also read newspapers on my iPad, but still prefer reading books on Kindle. The e-ink is easier on my eyes for long reading. However, now that there's a Kindle Fire, and tablet screens are ever improving, I wonder if e-ink devises will continue to be produced in competition with the more versatile tablets. Time will tell.

Kathy and I use our iPads daily. Great for TOTV browsing (such as right now), e-mails and some web usage. Aps are great; I'm sure I have just scratched the surface. But for serious spreadsheets, I access my HP laptop.

We'll have our iPads with us when we come to TV Sept. 1-8. Is there an ap that I could use on the golf course that would give me "live" instruction on how to hit better out of bunkers!

My wife has iPad 1 and uses it almost exclusively; I have an iPad2 and almost never breakout the laptop and seldom use the desktop iMac. When the new iPhone (version 5) is released soon I plan to upgrade from my Motrola Droid Pro. I have found the iPad2 to be WAY more useful than I imagined it would.

It's like any other tool, you decide which job(s) it does best and then you use it! Leave it in the box and I guarantee you will be an iPad hater.

I use my new iPad when surfing the internet at home or when I travel. It has the 4G option so also serves as a backup when cable service is down. Much easier to travel with than a laptop. Since we only have one PC at home, I can still surf the web while my wife is using the PC. I bought a ZAGG bluetooth keyboard/case to use when I have a lot of keyboarding to do. I can also use my Bose headset with it at home or when flying.

Got the new iPad for my birthday in July, so I'm still not using it as much as I could. I wanted it mostly so I can 'facetime' with my new granddaughter that lives in PA, (I am in NY). I did download a book from Amazon (Kindle) and I am enjoying that feature. But, the facetime feature is great, better than skype. Now I can see her, and she can see me whenever I want. She is 7 months old and really fun to watch now...

If CarGuys has already sold his iPad, I bought a gently used original (2010 model) iPad on Glyde: Simply buy and sell your games, iPads, iPhones and more (http://www.glyde.com) about 5 months ago. I paid $225 plus about $12 in shipping. It was in brand new condition. Couldn't really afford to plunk down $500 for a new one.

My iPad has practically replaced the desktop, for all intents and purposes. Once a week, or so, I'll use the desktop - but for day to day stuff, it's the iPad.

The OS with iCloud makes it all possible.

I bought my ipad3, and never leave home without it. My main computer is a MBP and works hand in hand with it, as syncing is very important

What is MBP?

MBP is short for a MacBook Pro. It is an Apple laptop. I'm typing on one now.

Other abbreviations include, MBA= MacBook Air which is another Apple laptop, thinner, smaller with a solid state drive instead of a hard drive.
