The Commander in Chief (President Obama) is spending your borrowed debt money and making memories.
Since when do 13 year old girls go to Mexico for Spring Break without their Parents along? Daughter of the President aside; that we the taxpayers are picking up the tab? This has GOT TO BE the crown jewel in the Imperial Presidency of Barack and Michelle! Some real classy PARENTS we have there folks; let's send them back to Chicago where they can't hurt the rest of us any more than they already have. Do we need a better reason that this one to make this a one term affair? You were probably not aware because the news media has not and will not report this; but that's another subject. Obama's 8th grade, 13 year old daughter, took a few of her girl classmates on spring break to Mexico; and oh; almost forgot the best part; with 25 secret servicemen. Estimated cost of this spring break trip- $2.5 million! Doesn't that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling that your tax dollars are being spent so wisely? Does this really surprise anyone?
AND YOU SAY, "SURELY THIS CAN'T BE TRUE."http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/maliamexico.asp
But remember, its only a drop in the bucket in the National Debt.

Did you actually read this Snopes article???

Do some research on Presidential families and their travel over the past 6 US Presidents or so. I remember that FDR used to have a Navy crusier that took him around. USS Houston (CA-30) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Houston_(CA-30))

I was waiting for the Obama lovers to chime in. Right on schedule. You guys never fail us. We love you. But you got to get off the blame someone for doing something. With the national debt, currently facing us, travel of this type needs to be curtailed.
But its OK, just send him a few more of your bucks to help pay this off and you will twice as happy as you are now.

And what do you see the GOP candidate doing? The price of using Air Force One is skyrocking. That would apply to any President taking office in the future unless the price of gas starts going down.

Talking about diverting the subject.
The issue, was sending a 13yr with classmates, to Mexico, Which the government had just put out a travel advisory to all college spring break travelers, and using 25 secret service, at tax payers expense to do it.
This administration just can't seem to grasp or care about this spending.
The family just comes back from a month in Hawaii....and then
Michele scoots out to Aspen, for a little more R&R.....and then
Michele scoots out to Vegas.
TONE DEAF!

Read the Snopes article. The travel advisory did not cover the area where the kid went to in Mexico. Again what would the GOP do differently? You expect the Romneys not to do the same??? If Romney becomes President he would need to use Air Force One and with the price of gas....
Check Bush's travel expenses while you are at it.

when all the partisan defending settles down it should be obvious. No different than a business executive running a company that is not in good financial health, where expenses must be cut to meet revenues (BALANCE!!!) there would be restrictions on the "normal" lifestyles of all who work at that company including the executives
Obama is supposed to be the chief executive of the USA. His country is in serious financial straights and all he and congress do is give the debt lip service. They certainly have not, do no change their life style one iota to either acknowledge there is no money without borrowing it of printing more.
But that does not seem to matter.
By sending and spending to send his kids on a Mexico holiday is wrong no matter who one is..R, D, white, black or what ever religion...
The Obama's really believe they are royalty. They believe they are free to tell we the people and the rest of the world what we should and should not do and then by their personal actions on specific subjects/issues publicly demonstrate their words do not apply to them.
The real impact of their lavish life style as leaders of an entity in financial distress underscores they DO NOT CARE.
They are consistent in the ongoing espousing one thing and doing another.
Who ever did what ever in the past is no justification of the current environment. The Obama's demonstrate they do not care.

Figmo-ooooo; don't you know the Obama's can do no wrong? Don't you know that they deserve every dime they withdraw from the Treasury for their own fun?
It's not like he's god-awful GW Bush or anything. Now Bush, he would get into a world of trouble just taking a trip to relax at his own ranch. What a loser.
I think Michelle said it best...."Let them eat cake!!"

So now we're guilty of "envy" for being upset by the President and his family going hog wild with our money?

I, for one, have no problem with The Commander-In-Chief's family traveling on the public's dime.
Just like I had no problem with Junior's girl's jetting up to NYC (accompanied by a slew of Secret Service agents, of course) to go drinking in NYC.

Bush's girls didn't travel on Air Force jets for their social life. A couple of necessary bodyguards do not qualify as a "slew". The Bush family didn't jet-set around the world like potentates, like the Obama's do. Your analogy is nonsense.

Coralway,
Obviously, you just do not understand. The trip to Mexico is just for fun. The Bush twins trip to New York was for educational purposes. They were doing a paper on how much alcohol can be absorbed by the human liver in any specific time span.

You used to write interesting posts, but now you're just a bad comedian. It's not an improvement.

Too bad there are not interesting topics to comment on right now. If all you uber-conservatives can come up with is Spring break for kids or showing gross ignorance about Constitutional law, it is not interesting and deserves an attempt at humor. True, I am not in Bill Maher's or Jon Stewart's league but it is better than worthless rants.

How about the threads I began on foreign policy....not much coverage by the left on any of those. They tend to love the threads like this, Augusta, Palin, etc.

"If all you uber-conservatives can come up with is Spring break for kids"
Once again missing the point of the thread and word smithing to suit your purpose/cause/party/whatever.
I won't waste my time trying to re-emphasize the point of the thread as it would erroneously assume someone is listening or cares.
We need to hear from you folks on some of the real issues instead of just what you want to tear apart.

Well, last week (or maybe the week before) there was a discussion on the Paul Ryan proposed budget. Someone asked how he intended to account for the 4 trillion dollars in spending cuts to go along with the massive (surprise) tax cuts.
Never did see an answer to that.

Well, last week (or maybe the week before) there was a discussion on the Paul Ryan proposed budget. Someone asked how he intended to account for the 4 trillion dollars in spending cuts to go along with the massive (surprise) tax cuts.
Never did see an answer to that.
From the beginning comments......
" Both budgets achieve about the same tepid levels of deficit reductions.
Neither proposal suggests any real spending cuts to entitlement programs.
The Ryan budget "takes back" the defense spending cuts previously agreed to by the GOP as part of the agreement to form the super committee, actually increasing defense spending by $600 billion.
Both budgets address only the 12% of federal spending categorized as "discretionary domestic spending".
The Ryan plan achieves it's results primarily with cuts to social programs and education to fund further tax decreases and increased defense spending. The POTUS budget also decreases business taxation, but increases taxes on the wealthiest Americans. The POTUS budget also cuts discretionary spending, but less deeply than the Ryan plan.
Neither budget materially reduces the unsustainable rate of increase in the national debt."
Then some more from the same thread...
"but Ryans budget, albeit far from perfect, finally addresses those uncomforable issues that need to be addressed. As you have said many times over the years, we are heading to be another Greece without severe and hurting cuts. He had the nerve to actually address the never ending welfare state that we have begun."
"You don't have to explain the items, but can you just give a list of "those uncomfortable issues" which are not addressed in the President's budget, but are in Ryan's? "
"I happen to like Ryan's increase in military spending."
These are just from one thread and there have been other mentions of the fact that the budget was intended to address the welfare state, etc. If you need very specific items, and dont know how to search for them, I would be glad to try and find specific wording for you.

well I know I did answer a couple of threads having to do with the budget/etc. But what has that to do with the questions asked of you on THIS subject?

The original post had to do with "Obama's kids going to Mexico on the taxpayers dime and falls along the same lines as the close to a million the GSA spent on a convention.
Boondoggles are a way of life in both the public and private sectors. People who don't get to go can be labeled as being envyous.
However there are other reasons. For instance underlings as insructed from their higher ups could be working to contain expenses while the upper echleon travel to exotic places. I don't think envy is the feeling these underlings would be exhibiting toward their superiors in this example.
The same applies to te president and congress. They are our leaders and they should lead by example but they don't.
There is also one other aspect to this scenario too often those that reward themselves in such manner rarely deserve it.
Boondoggles are elitist and divisive but they will always be because some folks just think too much of themselves not to want such rewards. Sad commentary but true

Rubicon is right on this issue. The GSA convention in Las Vegas is not the first of it's kind. They are with just about every federal agency and if it is not Las Vegas, it is somewhere else like Orlando. Downright stupid to make a video of employees singing a song about ripping off taxpayers. Hopefully, they will not be working long after the uproar it has caused.
This is not just a Democrat thing; it has happened in every administration for many years.
If the President put an Executive Order out banning the conventions, it might help but I kind of doubt it could be done. Those conventions bring a lot of revenue to the cities.

One thing - can we PLEASE stop saying we're becoming "Greece"? Everything in this country is headed AWAY from that. Yeah, we certainly have a spending problem - but at least our deficit is going down (just too slow), employment is picking up (again, too slow), retirement ages are being INCREASED (we never got close to the 'everyone retires at 50 and doesn't pay taxes' stage like they're at in Greece).
Yeah, we have financial problems - and ours are more like the rest of Europe - not Greece.

djp: "From your lips to God's ears." However, we are still not out of the woods yet as government has to be reduced and public unions have to make some serious concessions and tax policy must accomodate capital growth
