View Full Version : Weird Sound in Shower

We have a designer home with a walk in shower. The home is four years old so out of warranty.

Last night we noticed a loud humming sound coming from the shower. It sounds like a motor - my husband said it sounded like a faucet outside was running. He checked every faucet; turned off the main water valve, shut off the electricity to that bathroom and just about every thing that came to mind. This morning, it's still there and a louder. I can't clearly describe what the sound resembles.

Anyway, can anyone shed some light? Do I call a plumber or electrician?

We have solar panels for the pool but that doesn't run on anything such as electricity or water power.

Turn off all the water spigots in the house (make sure the ice maker isn't filling also), then check your water meter for useage. (If the meter is turning, you could be a water line leaking in the slab (if that where the line is located) - if the meter is turning, call a plumber).

Maybe it is the air conditioning unit. If it is on the other side of the wall a vibration might be heard.

Thanks for your quick responses. It's not the AC unit but we did check the water meter after making sure everything was turned off and it was turning. Something definately is running!

I called Paramount Plumbers (a recommendation from another TOTV member) and they are on their way.

Will post once I get a handle on this. Again, thanks for the responses

The plumber just left - okay, you will probably laugh over your coffee on this one.

Last night, I took a shower and in the shower I used a small facial brush that runs by battery. I thought I shut it off - apparently I didn't and that's where the noise came from - the brush head was running and hitting the shower wall.

It was a relief because we were looking at a big expense. The plumber didn't want to charge me but I insisted because he cancelled his first job to come out here. He only charged me half his regular fee.

But again, thanks and I do recommend Paramount Plumbing - nice professional people.

Nice move for both of you.

I'm sure the plumber appreciated it.

On his part, maybe he considered his gesture as an "investment in the future."

Thanks for the :a20:

I have a funny shower story also :22yikes:

When we arrived last fall, my wife took a shower and the drain was clogged. I was dismayed, why would a shower drain connected to sewer clog. First I turned on the other shower, kitchen sink, bathroom sinks. They all drained fine, so not a whole house problem.

I head out to garage, grab my screw driver, talked to my neighbor to make sure I could borrow his "unclog" snake.

As I try to take the screws out of the drain cover through an inch of water I discover perfectly clear tape over the drain, put there by my honey to prevent critters from entering. Remove the tape and guess what ....

It also made me realize my home watcher does not refill traps as I assumed they did.

These stories remind me of the days when TV repair shops were in business, and customers would call with problems. When the repairman arrived, he would often find the television unplugged from the outlet.

DUH !

Glad you didn't have a real problem, but what was the deal with the meter still running ????

Yes, I was thinking the same thing! That can get pretty expensive if it's true! Believe me I know, when I had a small leak in my main on my side of the meter box. When i got my very high water bill I called right away and was told that they knew about the high usage two weeks prior to me getting my bill but didn't say a word to me. It cost me $200 extra in water spread over two bills!

Bill :)I thought you would have asked "What'd it turn into!" :p

If your meter is running, do you have to chase after it, catch it then ground it so it won't run again? :loco:

What a Happy ending. Not a HUGE bill and some honest humor for all of us to read. Your a good person to let us all know what it was and to make us feel not so bad as Ahhhhhum! Maybe I have done something like that also.
