I was shocked to see Jessica Sanchez on American Idol last night as the person who had to sing for her spot on the show.

Maybe, more TOTV voters could vote for her and make sure that this does not happen again.

Ditto. My husband thought Jessica was the best.

I believe Holly truly has the best voice.......but I think that Phillip Phillips will win.....ultimately.

The little teenybopper girls , pre teen, etc. , to whom he would be the AMERICAN IDOL, are the ones that vote with their wallets.

All of them are great and will get record contracts, no doubt about it.

I offer a different take on this "shocker".

I do believe Jessica has the best voice by far, and I believe she should win it all based on pure vocal talent. I also very much like Colton, Phillip, and Joshua, but it is a popularity contest now and whomever has the biggest fan base will win. Nothing new here, but if you think back on the last 3 weeks in particular, the votes seem to be going totally contrary to the judges comments. I am thinking that viewers are sick and tired of Randy's non-stop yo dawg, dude, dope, hip comments and J-Lo's obvious lack of any real expertise in judging singing talent (notice how she seems to take the lead from Randy while the performances are going on), and Stephen is Stephen but he is bored with it all. My take is that perhaps the viewers are voting to express their lack of respect for these judges rather than for the best singer. They knew that the judges' save could save Jessica or Phillip or whomever, but the voting looks like an "in your face" to the judges from my perspective. If you think back to the bottom three from the past 3 weeks now, a couple of judges favorites have landed at the bottom and their "rejects" have escaped the bottom each week. Idol has turned into a weekly promotion for J-Lo and her sexy appearances and soft porn videos which have no place on a family show where the biggest voting audience is comprised of young girls 10-16. I have watched Idol every year, but this may be the last for me.

My sister's theory is that the small town kids win because their residents have a tighter pride and organize and vote in great numbers. You know on Facebook you can vote 50 times?

Jessica Sanchez is from San Diego and the residents don't have the same "small town pride".

I also agree that Jessica has the best voice and "should" win if AI was based on singing talent. Unfortunately it is not. I believe that the winner is already pre-determined based on potential marketability. If AI is going to invest millions on an individual in promotion, development of songs and compiling an album, nationwide tour, long-term singing contract, whatever the amount of times that the viewers vote for their favorite will make no difference. AI wants to make Big Bucks off the back of the winner in 1 year before the focus turns on the new season.

Randy, Jennifer, Steve, and Ryan keep telling the viewers to vote, vote, vote as if they all get a kickback in the fees that get generated from the texting or voting. Everyone was in shock yesterday because all the "voters" thought that Jessica was a shoe-in to win, so why vote for her, at least that is what the judges will hang their hat on.

This is the 11th season of AI and how many winners went on to a successful career?? Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Many non-winners have turned AI into a good career also, Jennifer Hutson, Dautry, Kellie Pickler.

My pick for eventual winner is Skylar because the Country Style of music seems to be the one that the AI contestants do better at, as in the case of last year's winner Scotty McCreery.

Second pick Colton.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it :throwtomatoes:

I didn't care for the song Jessica sang and I think although we all know she can sing, a choice of song and how much the crowd can recognize the song makes a huge difference. I vote for Phillip Phillips. He is really fun to watch when he gets going! As stated before I think any one of the people left could be a winner.

I noticed the same exact thing the past several weeks. It's as if the judges were praising the contestants to the heavens only to watch them fall.

I agree with you on the "comments" by Randy, etc.

We've watched it since the show first started and I hate to use the word "fixed" but it seems actually just the opposite........that, as you said, the t.v. audience is voting enmass AGAINST THE JUDGES inflated compliments. I also think each voter should only get ONE VOTE.

The judges also pick on Holly every week; she really has a beautiful voice which might be better accepted in musical theatre.......I hate to say this also, so don't take it the wrong way, but it seems that the judges push for the ethnic diversity more than talent that our grandkids would listen to and buy. That said, I do enjoy listening to Joshua.

We started watching Survivor and American Idol when our first grandchild was about 7 years old. She's now graduating high school.

Something to communicate with her about. She thinks we are young at heart. Amazing Race is another fave.

I agree with much of what you wrote. This is big business and I really doubt that fan votes have much to do with who is chosen as the winner in the end. I saw the whole Jessica Sanchez "shocker" last night as scripted drama, that is all. They are all really talented kids and any one of them could win. In the end, I believe that the judges will choose the winner. If you listen to Ryan as he gives the results, he talks about this being a combination of judges and fan votes. What is the combination? What is the percentage? We may never know but I do not think that the fans have the most control over who is chosen American Idol. I don't think they should. This isn't a popularity contest. It is a talent contest. Ultimately, skilled professionals in the music industry should make the choice. And, I believe they do.

It supposed to be strictly fan votes but I don't think:

1> the producers or judges pick the ulitmate winner at any time.
2> the bottom three or bottom two are really true based on the votes

What I do believe:

1> the top 7 are the best top 7 ever on Idol
2> Teeny boppers flood the voting
3> I think Jessica is great but I did not like her song this week.
4> Philip can win but will have to get out of his mold. I agreed with judges.
5> thought Josh did great job
6> Don't have a clue who is gonna win cause they all have a shot.

If you disagree with me you can tell me to my face next week. I'll be in TV looking for you...

I agree with most of what you said. To think that American Idol could get away with rigging the voting is ridiculous. No way they could hide that.

Teenage girls are the strongest voters and that's why girls have a tough time winning, unless it's a girl who captures the voters imagination so much that it overrides their hormones.

This contest is getting more sophisticated and the families and friends and towns of the contestants are organizing voting to cast as many votes for their singer as they can.

It takes dedication to sit at the computer and go through the process of voting 50 individual times. Then you can text vote I don't know how many times.

My favorite based solely on the sound of his voice and his way around a lyric is Colton Dixon. The song he sang this week I would buy. He's the most polished of all of them, except for Skylar Laine who is as professional.

I whole heartedly agree that this is the most talented top 7 I've seen ever on American Idol.

I too was shocked about Jessica but I, however, do not think that Phil Phillips will win. Does anyone else notice how his face gets red when he sings?

I think it will be between Joshua and Jessica in the finale.

I totally agree with you! A lot of talent this year...But at this point it comes down to who has the greatest fan base. The judges should only critique each performance, not tell you who you should vote for.
