Speaking of routes, anyone have a suggestion of the best way from Wichita to the Villages? I think Wichita to Tulsa to Little Rock is probably a given, but from there it seems there are lots of ways to go. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I'm from Wichita (hubby is from McPherson) and we drove to Kansas just a short while back. The shortest route is Tulsa, Little Rock, Memphis, Birmingham, US280 from Birmingham to Tifton, GA then south on I-75 to The Villages.
A more scenic route, but about 3 hours longer, is Wichita to Dallas, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Mobile, Tallahassee, Gainesville, The Villages. On the return trip, we took the scenic route and stopped in New Orleans via I-10 out of Baton Rouge, Gulf Shores AL (a little off the beaten track), then on to The Villages. Nice drive and a couple mini vacations on the way.
It's a long drive so take your time and stay safe.

If you don't have one, might consider getting one. The are inexpensive now ($140 will get you a very good Garmin with lifetime updates). A lot of poeple our age fight NEW, but if you every get/have one, well I'd hate to travel without mine.

I have had a couple of GPSs. My son now has the first one and my daughter the second, lol. They grew to dislike them because of the expense of updates. I haven't looked at them in ages, and since you mention lifetime updates, maybe they've fixed that. Last time we flew to Florida we took my son's Garmin and it was lots of help. I had a TomTom I got for retirement and took it once. Frankly thought it sucked. Always giving incorrect information. So I'll take a look at the new Garmins. Thanks.

Wichita - Little Rock - Greenville, MS - Tuscaloosa, AL - Montgomery, AL - Eufaula, AL - Tifton, GA - TV.
Get off the Interstates and take US 82 from Greenville to Tifton - a very nice drive.
Overnight in Eufaula and tour the antebellum mansions.
