That had to be at least a little bit off their rockers to come up with town names like these.

Or, perhaps, they were crazy like foxes to come up with bizarre names so as to bring in the tourists. Do not have a ghost in your town, nor a Baldwin, how about calling our town Dogfart, AZ?

Reminds me of a favored neighborhood coffee house that was on the north side of Chicago for a time called: The Earwax Cafe.
(They used to make scrambled eggs in a coffee mug using the steam from the espresso machine. THAT was their claim to fame.... not their name!)
What does Lake C-----ungamaugg translate into anyway?

Wecome to OldeWebster (http://www.oldewebster.com/history/lake_chargogg.htm)
It means "Englishmen at Manchaug at the Fishing Place at the Boundary."
