I have this "friend" who suffers from IBS. The only thing that has ever worked to control cramping pain was Paragoric. Does anybody know of a Doctor or Pharmacy that will prescribe/fill prescription. Thanks

According to Wikipedia, as of 2011 Paregoric has been discontinued as a result of regulatory action by the FDA. I remember rubbing it on my daughter's gums during teething and using just a little for a bad cough. Powerful stuff!

Paregoric is an extract of opium. I believe it was discontinued many years ago.

I thought IBS was a huge bank.

I am a big fan of medical prevention...and cramping is not normal.

Time to see a gastroenterologist and have a colonoscopy if you have not already done so.

It isn't FUN but it isn't that bad and over quickly. This test can SAVE your life. Colon cancer is very curable if caught early and polyps can be snipped while you are under anesthetic.

Please all who have had a colonoscopy....pile on. Everyone should have them after the age of 50.

I say this because I care.

Because Paregoric has been around for more than 100 years, it was "grandfathered" in by the FDA.....in other words, the manufacturer didn't have to submit any data showing that it was safe and effective. The FDA has been cracking down on grandfathered drugs and a few years ago it required the manufacturers of paregoric to submit data showing that it is safe and effective. To date, I don't believe any manufacturer has done so, so it is no longer available.
