This article is from Federal Times. The entitlement attitude of employee-reader comments at the end is appalling...........
D.C.-area GSA employees to start paying parking fees

General Services Administration employees in the Washington area will pay for parking beginning this month, according to an internal GSA email.
The charges — ranging from $1,800 to $6,240 a year, depending on the office locations — were originally set to kick in for all of GSA's offices in the Washington area on Aug. 1, 2011, but were delayed until now.
In an April 9 email, GSA employees were prompted to set up automatic payroll deduction for the new charges. Affected employees will start seeing parking fee deductions in their paychecks starting April 27. GSA said 222 parking spaces will be affected by the new policy. GSA has not said whether more employees could be affected later.
Cathleen Kronopolus, the regional commissioner for GSA's Public Buildings Service for the National Capital Region, said in an email in July that GSA had a responsibility to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and make the government more sustainable.
"One way we can do that is by reducing incentives such as free parking," she said.
Free parking for federal employees has been in decline since President Carter did away with subsidized employee parking as a governmentwide benefit in 1979.
Pay-to-park buildings include GSA's headquarters, 1800 F St. NW: the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 325 13th St. SW; and 12 others.

The govt is going to start treating CS just like the private sector???? NO way what did the union have to say about this. They should arrange for offsite parking and a limo to bring employees to the work center

This is an attack on our civil liberties, a wholesale pounding away of GSA employee benefits, due to Mr. Neely, spending less than a million dollars on a merit conference. We so needed the conference due to low moral and draconian working conditions.
I am going to contact the union and see if this is legal. It's hard enough to get by on the meager GSA pay scale, now they want me to pay for parking. What's a poor GSA pay scale employee to do? Ride a bike or take public transportation to work?
It's enough to make me want to contact Al Sharpton and have a protest march.
