Does anybody know which of these works best to block out a partner's snoring. I am the problem and it drives my husband crazy. There are several on the market...any ideas.
Thanks

You want to get tested for sleep apnea which is the main cause of snoring.
There are other causes however sleep apnea can be serious as when you snore you may stop breathing for periods of time.

See you doctor and ask for a sleep apnea test. Some cases result in using a breathing machine while sleeping. If this is required, you will have a wonderful sleep, feel more energy in the morning.

If a machine is requred they are covered by your health insurance company.

Many , Many people use a sleep apnea machine, you will see them being carried in a small case going through check-outs at the airport.

My wife has one. Since she staerted using one, she no longer snores, feels much better and we are in love again!

If I turned up my white noise machine to cover my husbands snoring I'm sure the neighbors would complain!:loco:

Some additional insight re: sleep apnea - - - -

Sleep apnea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea)

What Is Sleep Apnea? Causes, Risk Factors, and Effects (http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/sleep-apnea)

It some cases, it can be some pretty serious stuff. Worth getting checked out - or at least speak with your physician about your situation.

Bed Bath & Beyond has some excellant ones. My husband and I have the same problem - me. And yes, I have been tested, it seems I'm allergic to Florida. Anyway, we got one for approx. $20 - they go way higher - and it serves the purposes just fine. Check it ut!

Another thing you can do ... if you have a smart phone and some earphones.....download nature sounds....there's tons of free apps for this, plug your headphones into your phone and drift off to sleep. I do this almost every night...I listen to a thunderstorm. I use my Ipod, or my phone. I've got a long power cord so it can run all evening. I'm off to dreamland even before the second clap of thunder... ;)

I have a 10 in fan, turned so that it blows away from me, on the nightstand next to my bed. Run it on high every night and it works like a charm. I have a white noise app on my iPad that I use when I travel, but we much prefer the real fan.

I use the "Marpac 980A Sound Screen Sleep Conditioner White Noise Generator Dual Speed" which you can get from Amazon.com or other places for around $50. It is strictly white noise with two speeds. It's been next to my bed for 15 years!

Good luck!

you may want to try a mouth appliance. I too, am guilty of keeping hubby awake at night with my snoring.

After consulting with my Dentist, I ordered a mouth guard online from a company called Pure Sleep. I think the website may be www.puresleep.com

My dentist gave his blessing to it, in fact, he said he could make me one at a cost of about $500.00. I thanked him, and ordered from pure sleep for about $20.00. It works great!

Thank you , I looked at that but wondered how easy it was to get it to fit your mouth...you have to cut it to fit?

My DH and I use paper tape over our mouth and it really eliminates the snoring and the dry mouth in the morning. It was a remedy that a European or Russian doctor wrote about to help with asthmatic challenges. It will increase your lung capacity too and that has been most helpful to me in my singing. So there are many benefits even though it sounds weird. It has also helped us to sleep longer through the night w/o waking from the noise from either one of us. When I read about it I thought it was worth a try and a cheap solution.

I wondered about that one too. Will google it again to see if you have to reset the timer. I think strictly white noise might be best...will try what I have and see.
Thank you so much

Frannieb-
I would recommend seeing Dr. Juan Albino, The Village Sleep Lab, to be tested for Sleep Apnea which
is nothing to ignore and safer than a self treatment.
His office is adjacent to The Villages Hospital and his number is 751-4955.

Aren't there some types of nose strips that men can buy at the Drugstore that are supposed to stop snoring? I just use ear plugs if it gets annoying.

DH used these for a while and they worked well, but got costly compared to the paper tape.

Re the Marpac ... it has no timer and I just let it go all night. Two speeds which regulate the volume. I've tried many of the cheaper sound machines and they break or have odd clicks and skips in the sound. the Marpac is smooth white noise. Around $50.
