I honestly dont look for this stuff, but in my reading this morning I find this and it is SO TYPICAL...how does anyone not know what is happening..

"Eager to energize young voters, President Barack Obama is depicting Republicans as obstacles to an affordable college education as he previews an argument he will make on university campuses next week in states crucial to his re-election.

"This is a question of values," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday. "We cannot let America become a country where a shrinking number of people do really well while a growing number of people struggle to get by."

Obama wants Congress to extend a law that cut interest rates on a popular federal loan program for low- and middle-income undergraduates. If the law expires, the rates will double on July 1, from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent."

Does he not know or does he not care...

"Obama blames Republicans for voting against new ways to make college more affordable for middle-class families. But it was House Democrats who cut interest rates on the school loans in 2007 and included an expiration provision that placed the looming increase in the middle of an election year."

If the majority of voters have not already learned, they will before the campaign ends that Obama has a propensity to distort the truth, shift blame and refuse to accept any responsibility for his hubris and errors in judgment resulting from his lack of knowledge, experience and leadership.

According to the latest Wall Street Journal poll Obama beats Romney hands down on likability. Likability is a subjective quantity. Bernard Madoff was said to be very likable. I can name other infamous also likable.

I don't care about likability I want a president I can respect and trust....and on both counts Obama falls flat. He conducts too much of the country's business behind closed doors. His recent open mic faux pas while speaking to the Russian president speaks volumes.

The only reason he is getting away with his intentional and misleading statements is because the liberal media protects him and in that journalist have failed to carry out their moral, ethical and professional duties and the deserve the low ratings equivalent to Congress

This past week more news on that subject came out: On Wednesday, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) introduced an amendment to the Ryan budget that would prevent the interest rate from doubling ,a measure unlikely to get through committee.

The Ryan budget ? What does that have to do with anything ????

You do know that this country has not had a budget for 3 years, right ?

I'm puzzled by your remarks. Obviously you intended this post as another criticism of the president. Thus you description; "So Typical."

But you criticize him for simply stating facts. Every word of Obama's quote, save one, is factually correct. The incorrect word is 'shrinking'. In fact there is growing, or at worst, a stable number of people who are doing well, in part because of the Republican congressional bloc which refuses to support revisions of the federal tax code. The rest of the statement is actually an understatement.
If you've read anything in recent years you are aware that the average amount of money owed by college students has risen rapidly, putting many in an almost irresolvable financial hole, unless they quit school.
Furthermore, it should be pointed out that the Republicans are blocking the reduction of student loan rates. That's a fact too. Yes, it was a Democratic Congress which passed the rate reduction five years ago, which has been a godsend to millions of students trying to grab the American dream. And like most other revenue bills, it had an expiration date. These are just more facts.

So anyway, you use a lot of facts here. More than usual. But they point to a conclusion which is the opposite of what it seems you intended.

There are a bunch of folks out there who agree that Obama's statement was 'So Typical'. That is, the President once again stating some facts and speaking the truth.

TYPICAL...the games played in congress relative to election cycles, AND the blaming of Republicans who had nothing to do with setting the deadline (no conversation except for the democrats) and he SPECIFICALLY...not intimates but SPECIFICALLY blames Republicans.

Now, since 2007 have we had a few changes in the economy ? My point is that it is typical that this is NOT the doing of the Republicans in any way except that we are so far in debt NOW and the deficit is so much...

Representing the Republican party as the irresponsible one here mucho less than sincere...they seem to be acting like the adult here and the President is siezing the situation to manifest it as not wanting folks to get a break.

I think it is very typical for this President. We need, in my opinion, someone to lead us and tell the truth...there needs to be tightening of the belt and my opinion says the President should be upfront and honest about our difficulties.

BUT AGAIN...just my opinion....this is certainly not as stark as the Healthcare lies, etc, BUT I just want the facts laid out. Am I expecting too much, perhaps but don't think so because this is surely not the only situation that fits this.

Why do you think we have not had a budget since he became President ?

PS....could you please supply some more information on "Republican congressional bloc which refuses to support revisions of the federal tax code."

Forgive me. I can't make any sense of your post.
I stand on my contention that the President told the unvarnished truth about what the new student loan rates will mean. The simple fact is that Republicans are blocking the extension of the existing rates, for whatever their reasons.

I will agree that sometimes I try to go too fast...a little slower....

1. Was not aimed at Obama specifically EXCEPT his presentation, in my opinion, was not good. If he can mention how bad it was when he came into office and how bad things were and how we cannot spend any more....AND also be the head of a party who for 3 years WILL not pass a budget for this country.....THEN why stand up and BLAME the Republicans ?

2 And what did you mean about Republicans blocking changes to the tax code ?
I sure hope you are not referring to the Buffet rule !!!

I am sorry for confusing you and that is not being sarcastic...I really mean that !

I still can't see your 'So Typical' point. All the President stated was a fact about what would happen if favorable student loan rates were not extended. I didn't hear his statement live, but I can't imagine what was objectionable about his presentation.
I was the one who 'blamed' (boy, I dislike that word), the Republicans. They are, in fact, delaying passage of an extension to the student loan rate proposal, whatever their reasons might be.

I know the 'Buffet rule' thing really ticks you off. I'll agree that forcing the Senate vote was not apolitical, but that wasn't the President's doing. His mantra since day one has been to increase revenues and stimulate the economy through changes in the tax code. Including, by the way, reductions in corporate taxes combined with the elimination of the most outrageous loopholes.

the root of this problem for students started when the govt got into the student loan business...tuition suddenly started a steep upward climb which continues to this day...of course, if the govt is paying....whether health care, tuition, subsidized rents, anything where uncle sam starts to pay the bill instead of a real live individual, the bill goes up! colleges and universities have to tighten their belts, just like the rest of us!

Ok...lots of folks felt I was doing something strange here....but I was speaking of the presentation...and now it becomes mute I suppose...

"Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Monday embraced a student loan proposal that President Barack Obama is selling on the campaign trail and refused to endorse Sen. Marco Rubio's conservative immigration plan aimed at helping young illegal immigrants."

News from The Associated Press (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_ROMNEY?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-04-23-18-53-24)

Still didnt care for the presentation of aiming at and shooting at the other party, but........

I wonder how conservative Republicans who say we must deport all the illegal immigrants are going to like Marco Rubio's proposal of allowing children who came to the US illegally with their parents being able to stay?

Well, the children born in the USA to illegal immigrant parents are US citizens automatically. No big difference as I see it.

Rubio has a good idea.
