Where do you all stand on the Secret Service affair?
Here's where I am.
Is the POTUS responsible?...of course not, that's ridiculous. Supervising the Secret Service is way below his pay grade. It's probably more accurate to say that Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano is responsible. But even then, the nighttime activities of some Secret Service agents on assignment in a foreign country is even a bit below her pay grade too. But the head of the Secret Service? And any supervisors in the SS chain of command involving the team in Columbia? You betcha they're responsible!
OK, what should be done and who should do it?....I've always liked the standard for performance so traditional among Navy officers. If the guy steering the ship screws up and damages the ship, the Captain's career is over. Not necessarily the Chief of Naval Operations, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, or certainly not the POTUS. But the person responsible closest to the situation? He should be history. In this case, the government careers of the agents, their on-site supervisors, and probably the appointed head of the Secret Service should be gone.
Tough, yes, but let that happen a few times and people wll elevate to a much higher standard of performance and conduct. By the way, that same standard should be applied in the recent case involving the GSA, in my opinion.

You're way too soft on the GSA. It's time supervisors who approved outrageously lavish expenditures were sued by the Attorney General to recover taxpayer funds. There should be clear APPROVED guidelines indicating when expenditures exceed the limit of reasonableness. Then, personal accountability thereafter for those who exceed the limits. Isn't it time that ALL government departments live by such rules!!!!!

The rot starts at the top. If the top can not obey the laws then why should anyone.

Those boys only got in trouble because they didn't think they had to pay for their own "stuff".
It's fits the teachings of this administration perfectly :)

The Secret Service scandal and the General Services Administration scandal are reflections of the character crisis plaquing this country. Greed and immorality always were but they have grown in epidemic portion in this country. Is there an inverse relationship of secularism to that of immorality?
I believe so because secularism promotes selfishness which reinforces entitlements etc.

You've got a point. Prosperity breeds corruption and greed. Don't know about secularism. Some of the most colossal corruption and crimes against humanity have been done in the name of religion.

Another good point. There are a bizzillion stories of naughty and illegal stuff which happened in the past, confirmed later, but was covered up.

Wow!!; are you wound tight.
I was just trying to point out that maybe the Secret Service members thought hookers was just another entitlement and thus did not have to pay.
That's what got them into trouble.
Take a deep breath, and sip your iced mocha latte, and relax.

While you might be able to muster a very good arguement for what you say......I respectfully disagree...
The media is absolutely horrendous in my opinion. We know, as in the recent sad story out of Sanford, they are not even adverse to editing and trying to make the news. They do not report in anything approaching an unbias manner.
Second, there is now way in this country that we have the morals, the respect for....well respect for anything at all. We are either enabling or taking from enablers. They sort of smile at you with a sly grin if you worked hard wondering what could be wrong with you. From the smallest moral slip up to the major ones, we have become a corrupt country.
I realize I am talking like an old man but the things I was taught to respect and how I was taught to act are, to most citizens, funny and old fashioned. I dont think so...respect for fellow man was imperative in my home and it doesnt exist much anymore.

Usually when you whip out those gratuitous generalizations and baiting personal remarks, I just shake my head and ignore it. But lately I'm really relaxed, so I've taken a little time to call you on your crap.
You can't weasel out of your first post by blithely saying you meant something else. Nor by your personal remarks.
Take responsibility for what you say. Stop shoveling.

I still don't know what you're blathering about.
My point (my joke) was that the Secret Service personnel must have felt "entitled" to female companionship, working for an Administration that encourages entitlements, and thus did not want to have to pay for their wants.
You attack me and then start complaining about MY personal remarks.
You got big ones.

I understand she handed him the bill for $800 then it the fan. Guess they don't train the lads in negotiation skills. Which is pretty typical of government but at least this guy had some sense of conservative spending.
