Pharmacy ripoffs

I was in a hurry and droped of 3 scripts at Walgreens for a cost just under $ 100. All of these have been transfered to Walmart for a cost of $ 10.00 each for 90 days. Walgreens also charged me $ 286.16 For 60 Celebrex. I just ordered 100 in Canada online for $56 ( generic) to try. US script would be $ 109 for 100 but I thought I would try the generic first. My brother filled a script at CVS 30 days for $ 32. Next he went to Walmart and got the refill for $4. Shoping at the corner drug stores is not a good choice.

I took a RX to Walmart and when I asked how much it was going to cost me - she said she wouldn't know until its filled. When I went to get it they told me it was $774.00 - that's right $774.00 and supposedly that was WITH insurance. Well, I told them to put it back on the shelf, retrieved my RX, called my insurance company and they filled it for $9.00!!!!!!!

My prescriptions at Walgreen cost me NOTHING ! And Publix fills antibiotics for zero dollars, they do others too for zero. I don't think it's the corner drugstore I think it's your insurance.

I believe there was an agreement a few years ago with a number of stores to fill the 100 most prescribed medications for $4.00 @. Walgreens would not agree to be a part of this, but I know that Walmart and K-Mart did. It pays to check around.

When shopping scripts you need to compare labels because pharmacists are allowed to substitute one brand for another and can even substitute a generic in place of a name brand. I don't think it's fair to the stores unless you specify, in each case, that the brand was exactly the same.

The $774 price was set by your insurance company. That's why walmart could not tell you the price until they filled it. Your insurance company does that because it wants you to fill it with them. When you bring in a prescription to be filled on your insurance, the pharmacy enters it into the computer. The computer then communicates with your health insurance computer and it is your health insurance computer that sets your copay.

walgreens sucks, just calling it as I see it, I no longer do business there.
Publix matches walmart generic prices (service at both is just mediocre).

I don't do too many retail Rx's, I use mail-order via my insurance, so not that big a deal, but I understand.

Does anyone know if you have to have a presription to order medicines online from Canada ? I've seen Canadian online pharmacy websites. Prices are low. Not sure if it is a scam.

Be careful. How do you know if what you are getting has been manufactured as meeting the standards for quality? I'm just skeptical purchasing from a supplier outside of the U.S.

many of the medications sold by Canadian and other foreign pharmacies get the SAME meds from the SAME manufacturers and most of them are made by the foreign manufacturers!!!

My wife's cancer medicine here costs $300 for 90 days with insurance. Over $600 when it hits the donut hole. Purchased from a foreign pharmacy shipped to the front door via Switzerland....same meds....in exactly the same packaging...manufactured in an approved facility in India.....$119 for 90 day supply....cash out of pocket with no insurance.

The thread is appropriately named.....pharmaceutical rip off, condoned by past administrations and supported by the current administration, gotta keep the specialist interest and lobbyists donations coming in....screw we the people in the process..BUSINESS AS USUAL in Washington.

Counterfeit medications are rampart. Hardly a week goes by that more counterfeits aren't discovered. We have severely reduced the FDA budget but we get angry when they don't catch counterfeit meds. It is disingenuous to blame the Federal government for the price of drugs. There are many Canadian and Indian and Chinese drugs that are just as effective as those made in the US, but there are many more that are completely ineffective if not harmful. Without FDA oversight, how are we to tell. In the 60's the same argument was made for Thalidomide. I am happy for you that you are able to purchase the meds needed at a substantial discount, but please be aware that others are also purchasing meds from foreign manufacturers that do not contain a single gram of active medication. The entire supply chain has been put in question because of drugs that are available without FDA approval.
