dog friendly, that link is to a pdf on the web. It requires Adobe Reader in order to open it. You can download it from here ----> Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions (http://get.adobe.com/reader/)
Here's the info from that pdf re: the dog poop:
"On a different topic, I would
like to remind people to be
mindful of their actions.
What I am referring to is
doggie poop being placed in
the trash containers at the
postal facilities. The trash containers
are a convenience for
residents to discard junk mail –
not for doggie poop.
The District will be putting
signs on the trash containers
stating “No Pet Waste.” If people
continue to put pet waste
in the trash containers, the
District will need to consider
alternatives such as removal
of the trash containers. This
unfortunately would penalize
the majority due to the actions
of a few."

so we will see if the MAJORITY loses another one.
What could be so intolerable (not saying it is right) to remove a convenience of the majority?
In my opinion it is poor judgement to tell the masses we will penalize YOU for the few. Unless we are supposed to be motivated to establish a poop guard schedule to rotate by household to keep the benefit od the MAJORITY safe.
Sounds like mediocre, inexperienced management doing a puff up!!
Pass the popcorn.

Since this seems to be a recurring issue at all postal stations why don't they consider installing a pet waste can at each site similar to what they have outside the pet stores and solve two problems, maybe even three, with one solution. No more pet waste in the mail trash bins, single place for pet waste, and maybe just maybe some of those inconsiderate pet owners that leave their pets solid waste on the ground will be inclined to pick it up and dispose of it properly.

No more pet waste in the mail trash bins, Do you really think no one will not still use the trash bins?.
Installing a pet waste can.............
Then a disposal truck will have to be purchased and one or more employees hired to go around a dump the dog poop.
I agree with other posters the majority should stand up for not eliminating the trash cans!

I don't think the dogs will be able to read these notices and you can't trust the owners that already have difficulty reading other notices about not leaving their old telephone directories at the mail stops. Guess some folks believe that their amenity payments cover picking up anything they leave behind.

In my district, there is no majority rule. The district (8) is operated by the developer's peeps, and will do pretty much as they see fit. When the owners take control sometime in the future, the game changes, as do the rules. For example, no overnight parking of trailers, RV's , trucks etc. on the roads overnight. Right now they can park for 72 hr., if they don't pose a safety hazard. (typed at my kitchen table as I gaze out the window at the windshield of a class "A" motor home about 20 feet away. No class IMHO

I don't even want to THINK of when the "owners take control". I read this forum too much. The crazy ideas some people have and the selfishness would make any homeowners meeting like a break out from the asylum.
I hope "it" continues just the way it is for a long, long, long, time.:spoken:

Two meatheads are walking in the woods when one looks down and says, "Look dog poop!" The other bends down and smells it, "Smells like dog poop." They both stick there fingers in it, "Feels like dog poop." They taste it, "Taste like dog poop!" One says to the other, "Sure glad we didin't step in it."
I have seen one of these pet disposal stations at Lake Miona Park near where you can walk your dog .DOGIPOT® Pet Waste Disposal Station with Steel Waste Receptacle and Biodegradable Litter Bags | Pet Products | Belson Outdoors (http://www.belson.com/pwds.htm) That's the park with the boat ramp.

:what::what: i think you people are making TOO MUCH of the dumping of plactic bags w,poop in the trash containers at P/O or elsewhere. The containers should be emptied daily and there would be no problem!!, with the smell. At least the dog owners are DOING THE RIGHT THING BY CLEARING UP AFTER THEIR PETS. SURE doesn't sound like a very PET FRIENDLY area?? What if someone throws a half eaten cheese sandwich or a rotten egg sandwich in the can, is that also wrong? LIGTHEN UP.:spoken:

I have to agree that this seems to be Much ado about nothing! It is a garbage can--it isn't going to smell like flowers no matter what is in it, especially in the heat!
Just pick up your mail, toss the junk mail in it and move on down the road!
Count your blessings! We live in a wonderful place, and with a higher standard of living than 90% of the world's population. It is going to be okay!

There are postal stations where A LOT of folks walk their dogs (Tamarind Grove for instance). And in the heat of the summer, it doesn’t take long for the dog poop to start smelling really bad. So, all of us responsible dog owners should carry our bags of dog poop home and dispose of it in our own way. How hard is that? It’s the right thing to do, and we need to do our part to keep TV a “pet-friendly” community.

if it is in a plastic bag, which it usually is....
and if the bag is knotted which it usually is.....
as has been said above...what is the big deal....and we know there are a few among us that everything is a big deal.
I will bet 98.6% of it is perception....OH MY GOD did that person throw their dog poop in the mailbox TRASH CAN?
I still say for the powers that be (?) to come out and in print cite the practice will stop or remove the trash cans is very, VERY small thinking, responding to the paranoid few.
Trash is trash....garbage is garbage... it all stinks regardless the process before it hits the can.
Good advice above: lighten up. Go work on something that really is a problem like _ _ ? _ _ .

Next they will want us to shower before we pick up our mail.
There are some people who like to chat for quite a while at the postal center. Done this myself at times. So, maybe the social gatherers at the mail center do have to put up with some bad smells.
I would think though that the people who actually have the courtesy to pick up their dog's poop at the postal stations would also double bag it so that the odor keeps in for a little while.

Just for the record, I am not a pet owner, so I am not an improper poop disposer.
Common sense would say that if I am chatting next to a garbage can and it doesn't smell good, I will be moving away from the garbage can.
And, of course, pet owners should dispose of their pet garbage properly.

Great! A pet owner with a responsible attitude about his community. If other dog owners don't seem to mind picking up dog crap with their plastic bag mitten why then would they want to stink up public areas instead of making their own homes stink of dog crap. Oh! Your dog's crap doesn't stink!Hey dog owner's, you can't have it both ways. Either you are totally responsible or not. No in between!

Next thing you know there will be a requirement that all new residents of TV be required to make a written pledge that they will never dispose of their own or their pets poop in a community trash can. I, for one, am offended by this attack upon my constitutional and Gd given right to deposit poop whenever and wherever the urge to do so comes upon me!!! I subscribe to the following well known and accepted philosophy embodied in the following ditty:
"In days of old when knights were bold and toilets weren't invented,
They laid their loads upon the roads and walked away contented."

As for signs, one of the funniest I've seen was sold at a Craft Show. It was wooden, shaped like a tombstone, about a foot high and said " Here lies the last dog to sh** in my yard."
Don't get me wrong. Love dogs. I have two. But would never leave their waste on someone else's property and don't want others on mine. Just a matter of respect for others.

We are dog lovers and we take our dog to dog park regularly. They have a designated can for depositing dog poop. I believe the cans are emptied daily (but not 100% certain of this).
I will say that even though the waste is put in plastic bags, the bags are tied in knots, and the cans are emptied daily, a combination of the hot sun and all that poop make for a nauseating smell, especially late in the day. I get ill just passing by these cans.
Just my opinion, but the garbage cans at the mailboxes should be for junk mail/mail trash only. Junk mail doesn't smell. Dog poop does. It's bad enough I have to go by the cans at dog park (my choice), I would prefer the cans at the mailboxes not smell like the cans at dog park.

I think the signs on the cans would be a good idea. I don't walk my dog by the mailbox area but I can see where someone who does use this area would think they are doing the RIGHT thing by picking up after their dog and disposing of it in the nearest can. I don't think you can assume that people know they are doing the wrong thing. In fact, I am inclined to think they think they are doing what they should be doing and if they knew what you thought they would feel bad.
