Has anyone had the pneumonia vaccine?
Is it safe? Are there any side effects?
My new doctor is recommending it.

Once in a lifetime shot protects you against common form of pneumonia. We two didn't have any side effects.

No side effects, painless; although our doctor told us it is good for five years then you need a booster, still worth it in my opinion.

As a pharmacist, let me add that your doctor is just passing on the recommendations of the CDC (Center for Disease Control). I believe that the recommendation is for those over 65. I also recommend the shingles vaccine for anyone that has ever had chicken pox, and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) if you have children that are about to have children of their own. There is a pertussis (whooping cough) epidemic in some parts of the country, so if you are going to be around a newborn or infant, I recommend Tdap.

As a retired Registered Nurse I can tell you part of the admitting procedure to a hospital in NJ, every patient over 65 was screened for the pnewmonia vaccine. Most patients that had not been given it by their physician, ageed to take it. I never saw any untoward effects from the vaccine.

I've had it and no side effects. Will be time soon for my booster and will do it again.

When I got mine the clinic did not have flu vaccine. My doctor told me I wouldn't die from the flu but I could from pneumonia. Painless, no side effects. I think after 65 it is one time deal so I will need one more.
