Be sure to see "The Savoys," who has their first open-to-the-public gig this coming Thursday, May 3rd, at Pimlico Rec Center on Belvedere from 6:30-8:30. Tickets are $4.00, supposed to be available at all rec centers (but I haven't checked that). There will be room for dancing.
They play Big Band stuff, plus some pop tunes (think Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and maybe Proud Mary). They have a great vocalist (lives in Tampa) and feature some very good musicians. If I have this right, there are 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, 3 saxes, a drummer, keyboard player, and bass player, plus the vocalist.
They are also available for big club gigs. They have a youtube audition video - you might want to go to youtube.com and type in The Savoys - I couldn't figure out how to imbed it here,
Look for some publicity in the paper this week.
