Paint/Stucco not sticking

We bought our house about six months ago and have noticed that if you scrape the stucco with anything, lawn mower wheel, weed eater or even a broom handle the paint comes off. You can take your fingernail and peel the paint off with the stucco still stuck to it. We have called the TV Home warranty dept. and they have been very accomodating thus far. Just wondered if anyone is experiencing the same thing?

It sounds like they painted when the stucco was still chemically "hot". The curing process was not 100% complete, therefore the paint "burned" and the mechanical bond between the stucco and paint never happened.

Mulligan, thanks for the feedback. The thing is the paint does stick to the stucco, in fact it pulls about an 1/8" of stucco off with it. The painters say the stucco was probably not cured fully, that may be the same thing your saying. It's like the texture coat didn't stick to the skim coat. Anyway, we live in the Buttonwood area and just wondered if anyone else has had similar experience.
P.S. I believe the paint/coating is rubber based.

We had the same thing. They painted before the stucco had cured. They scraped paint and stucco off and did it over, only I made them wait 4 days before they repainted. They pour the footer one day and 38 days later the house is done and ready to move in. Concrete is suppose to cure 30 days . Somethings are done a little too fast. :pray:

Can you tell me did they scrape and repaint the entire house? who was the plaster contractor.?, painting contractor?, builder? Thanks

It was on one side of the house. They re-did the one side. I wanted the paint to look the same on that side.

Great news, the builder/plasterer/painter have all gotten together to remove all stucco and paint and re-do. Very impressive. They started yesterday and have the whole house almost completely stripped. Gotta love the Villages. DG

I gotta tell you, I'm with oldcrab here (oldcrabs gotta stick together). While the remedy was probably satisfactory, it put the homeowner out considerably, while costing the contractor time and the warrenty company, and probably the contractor, money. A lot of negatives there to produce a positive outcome.

Made settlement in Jan. Our punch list had several items on it that they repaired and some, they said, "thats the way they do it". So I would say the glass is "half empty". :22yikes:

When we bought our house in Sabal Chase 4 years ago we had the same problem with paint peeling off the stucco (like you peel off fingernail polish) . At first home warranty sent out folks to repaint 2 sides; it only lasted a month or so before turning dark and peeling again. Long story-short with some persistance but we got the home warranty dept to provide more paint for 3 sides of the house and we painted it ourselves. Two years later and everything still looks good.
