I was driving my brand new golf cart into my brand new garage and I didn't notice that the brand new garage door was not all the way up and I ran into it:ohdear: Now there is a dent in the door and I'm sitting here waiting for the garage door guy to call me back and worrying about how much this is going to cost me. Has anyone else done this? Because it would really make me feel better if I wasn't the only one.

We've all done much worse. I always call myself a dumb#ss, hence my avitar Walter. But, life goes on and we are still breathing....that's a good thing!:ho:

I backed through the electric screen which slides down outside the garage door. Immediately had to go inside and have a tall glass of bourbon. Took two months to get it fixed and $360. I probably won't do it again. I suspect that you will remember to wait from now on.

If you only banged up the door and didn't break anything on the cart, then you're not in too bad of shape.
Don't feel bad: A few years back, I pulled a car (manual trans - not automatic) into our garage, shut it off, got distracted by something - then got out of the car and went out to our storage building to get the mower out to cut the grass. Noticed the garage door on the attached garage (100'+ away from the storage building) was still up so I hit the remote from the building to shut it, hopped on the mower......and noticed the garage door was still up. Hit the remote again and watched the door come down......on the car......then go back up again! WHOA!!!
Turns out I'd left the car in neutral without pulling the parking brake and it drifted backwards just a bit. The garage door was coming down, hitting the rear bumper, then reversing direction due to the resistance. Fortunate for me that it only scraped paint on the bumper and did no damage to the door. A little bit of paint touch up and some polishing took car of the bumper. Still have the car - and I think about my lapse every time I look at that bumper!! :D
We all have our moments........I tend to have an inordinate number of them. :1rotfl: Hope you get everything fixed up o.k. with your door.

Been there and done that one. Had to replace the lower panel of the garage door. Cart was fine. I am not as quick to pull in now!

Nope, not me. But I've got this "friend" that did something similar. Going into the garage this "friend" activated the wall-mounted auto door opener to open the door. He was also carrying a remote auto door opener in his pocket. As the door was opening he got into his cart, checked his map for a while to confirm his route of travel, turned on the cart, checked his rear-view mirror to make sure there was nothing in the driveway, put the cart in Reverse, and backed up...BAM!!...right into the door!!
Turns out the door had never fully retracted all the way up, which he never realized as he was looking at his map, but it was high enough to be out of view when he looked in his rear view mirrors.
Apparently...somehow...the remote opener in his pocket got activated as he was entering his cart and while the door was still transiting upward, thus causing the door to stop----not quite fully up but out of view looking in the rear view mirrors.
"Friend" survived. You'll survive. And you won't be the last. There's just too many people here doing too many things----pretty much impossible to be the first at anything! Ca ca happens.
Feel better???

Lynnelf, I did the same thing only in reverse. I went out in the garage to go somewhere in the golf cart. The garage door was open but I didn't notice that Mom had previously lowered the garage door a bit while she was puttering in the garage. I backed out at nearly full speed & :boom:. Put a dent in the door & scraped the back edge of the cart roof. I had a few choice words for my mother and felt stupid for not noticing the door wasn't all the way up. So, you're not alone.

No worries Lynnel! I'd make a list of things I've done which are way worse than driving a cart into the garage door, but I don't think three-page posts are allowed. And yes, I've dinged the top of my golf cart getting a little ahead of myself!

Look at it this way. You've got your first accident out of the way and you weren't even hurt, and no one is going to sue you. Sounds like it came out okay to me!

I'd like to forget it but I did exactly the same thing. I'd left the cart in the driveway for the afternoon. As we were going out to dinner I decided to put the cart in the garage. I thought the door was above the top of the golf cart but it obvously wasn't. No damage to the cart. I'd also like to get the door fixed except the garage doors in TV are so paper thin, that I have to wonder if it wouldn't be better to replace the whole door with a steel insulated door similar to what we use in the North. I now sit still until the garage door stops. I thought maybe I could bang (or push) the dent out of the one square but so far haven't tried.

Several years ago one morning when I got up I was feeling like Cr***, but had to go to work anyway. My wife was helping me get things together and she took things to the car and turned on the lights in the garage. Well, I never turn them on as when you hit the door opener they come on automatic. In my condition I thought the door was open and got in car and put into reverse and hit the gas. Well, it pushed the whole door out and then it would not open. Only thing to do then was get out of car go out the front door and around the house and kick the hell out of the door to push it back in. It worked and it would then open. Cost me $600 for a new door. :0000000000luvmyhors

My wife did exactly as you described...with neighbors nearby. She was so embarrased. She came in, told me what she did with a bright red face. I was able to do some creative body work on the door and it's as good as new. She made me the nicest dinner that night! The reason I didn't get mad at her is I figured I'd keep that goof "in the bank" and use it when I really screw up.:icon_wink:

So your new cart goes faster than you thought and the garage door is on slow motion. Blame it on the garage door.:cus:

I'm reminded of my beloved grandfather, Joe Evans. He spent his life growing a successful dairy farm in NW Arkansas. At age 70 he decided it was time to retire and move to Lubbock Texas to be near kids. He had never owned a car, only pickups. So when they got to Lubbock he went to the Ford dealer (always owned a Ford truck). The salesman asked what he wanted. He said he wanted a blue one, and pointed at the biggest Lincoln on the lots. I think he had visions of how many bales of hay would fit in the trunk. Pulled out his wallet and paid him in cash. (Love my granddad.) He took it home and drove into the garage of the new house. I should mention the farm house didn't have a garage so this was new. He promptly drove it about 24 inches into the kitchen. Turns out the biggest Lincoln was about a foot longer than the garage. Took it back and told the guy he wanted a shorter one. Didn't care what color or model.
Now there is an easy customer. I'm sorry about your accident. I know you feel bad, but you brought back a fond memory of someone who meant the world to me and has been gone 40 years. Thanks.

How about watching your neighbor back his car right through the garage screen? (The screen was a manual screen, so don't know how he could have forgotten to open it.) That happened about a week ago. I very quickly slunk back inside so he didn't know he was caught.
Yup, we all do dumb things sometimes.

We have a family affair with backing into things so I think it is normal to hear about them. My son a few years back "thought" he put the garage door up but instead somehow didn't realize (to this day can't figure out how) that it was UP to begin with and actually put it down, and as I sat in the family room I hear a loud BANG.. yep backed right into the door. Than my brother, about a year later after sharing a good laugh how my son did it, HE did it to his garage the same thing! Than my sister takes the cake. She "forgot" to shut the driver door while backing out of her garage and ripped it right off the hinges!
AND, finally my brother was turning around on a street after waiting in line for a train too long. The woman in front of him was doing the same thing. He turned behind her and was putting it in reverse when the woman did it faster than he did and rammed into his front end. Now that wasn't bad enough, but she put it in drive, than backed up again and hit his car a second time when he was getting out of it to look at the damage. She just said she didn't see him obviously but couldn't explain the second hit! She than said, give me your phone number and I'll call you when I get home. lol Duh
So see.. some seem unexplainable but we all are human and have our moments.

More dents on our cars have happened in our driveway. Wife backed into son's truck trailer hitch; I pulled up too close to the same trailer hitch. Son backed truck in my car. We are truly a "family affair" when it comes to accidents in the driveway. Welcome to "our world"!!!:beer3:
