Insurance on irrigation system

We have recently received a notice about the importance of insurance on our irrigation system. I have not sure if this is legitimate or is this just another way to tap into our billfolds.

Depends on several factors:

- The reliability and history of the company providing the offer. Is it an 'insurance company' of some sort or is it a local irrigation company?

- The cost of the insurance (and what it will cover) versus the cost of a somewhat traditional repair, such as replacing a sprinkler head, for example.

- Your view of insurance. Some folks feel better the more insurance they have. Others want minimal insurance and are willing to assume more of the risk themselves. Most people are in the middle somewhere.

The choice is yours.

My take? It's probably somebody/some company with another angle on trying to bring in some additional revenue. But depending on what you'd find regarding the first bullet point above, it could simply be a scam.

This may be poor advice unless you want all you landscaping covered in ice.
The irrigations systems do no freeze below 32 degrees, will have to get a whole lot colder than that to freeze up the system.

As I remember, I received a bunch of these kind of come-ons when I first moved in from company's that were looking for contracts. I would vote NO, there is no insurance needed for irrigation systems, that's kinda nuts.

The builders quality sprinklers are just that, builder's quality. I have replaced some, if not many of them already after 4 years but not because they were really trouble just they lived through their life cycle. They are not expensive, BTW, so it wasn't a problem. Each time I redo my landscape I may change the type of sprinkler head to accommodate a new position to water my flowers.

BTW, we do not water much in the wintertime, the grass is dormant so have no idea what that poster is suggesting.

I think that the post about running the system when it gets below 32F has to do with the water in the lines no freezing and breaking the lines.

I've heard people say that they don't water much in the winter. Personally, I don't water much in the summer. It rains almost every day here from June-Sept. I shut my system off and water once in a while if we've gone a week or so without rain.

I water about once a week the rest of the year.
