View Full Version : Voter Registration Drive by NAACP

I read in the Daily Sun that the NAACP headquarters announced it will step up it's voter registration drive in all states to get more senior, students, and minorities registered. This is in reaction to the GOP led initiative to demand ID when casting votes.

I fail to see a conflict here. I support all efforts to get people to vote and to become informed. But how will the NAACP know who they are signing up to vote without id's? How will they be certain that they are not registering felons, encouraging people to vote in two or more states or putting phantom names on the voter rolls?

President Obama has an army of volunteers registering new voters and making sure all registered voters have the required photo ID and get to their polling places. This includes precinct captains who will canvas their neighborhoods.

With RichieLion's thread on illegal income tax refunds, got me to thinking.......those on here and including those like Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) who said there is NO problem with illigel immigrants voting.
In doing some checking, I find that the GAO (government accounting office) in 2005 found that up to 3 percent of the 30,000 individuals called for jury duty from voter registration rolls over a two-year period in just one U.S. district court were not U.S. citizens..
Does not sound like much.....3% but do the math relative to an election and its possible impact on electoral college, etc.
Imagine how it may have grown since then.....when the discussion on voter id was taking place I was not aware of this report...

Wow.....is there not enough evidence of folks voting who should not...ACORN in 2008....who knows who runs that show now and illegal immigrants.

Anyone that would allow this to continue should be *&$%&) and *^%$^$) and also *%#$#. I would like to see an INS van and a sheriffs crew checking for warrants parked at the front door of every polling location in the country.

I am convinced that Obama can only win with a rigged election. I am afraid that the photo ID card will not be enough to stop voter fraud because I believe there are many voting locations under the control of those offenders.
The integrity of our voting system is in great jeopardy.

President Obama received 69,456,897 votes in 2008 which was 52.9% of the vote, versus Senator McCain's 59,934,814 votes or 45.7% of the vote. The electoral college vote was 365-173. Are you saying that over 10 million fraudulent votes were cast?
It's been almost four years since President Obama won the election in a landslide. It's about time you admitted that he is the president of the US.

That's pretty much what all losing candidates say. Oh, if my candidate wins, it's the people's will. But, if the other guy wins, it's a rigged election.
Sounds like The Cons are planting the seed for Willlard's election day loss excuses.
Pretty pathetic.

Hi Janmcn: We know Obama received 69, 456,897 votes we just wonder how many of them were the result of votes by dead people, those that voted 60times in the same day and those that the new black panther party demanded be cast for obama or else...capire?

Hi coralway: Except the other guy, in this case, is aligned with ACORN New Black Panther Party, and other such radical groups. Even the ex- founder of ACORN acknowledges that ACORN acted inappropriately during the 2008 election....goggle it

coralway: the article refers to one person and as an isolated event . However I am glad you brought it to my attention because it reinforces my original statement and that is the integrity of our election system is in jeopardy and as Americans we need to let our elected officials we won't tolerate it. Because to let it stands means we have lost our ability to vote because our votes are meaningless
Personal Best Regards

I guess I am in the minority when it comes to anyone or any group that is trying to get more citizens involved in our voting process. I don't think it is a fair representation of what America wants when only approximately 30% of the registered voters vote in an election. That is only the people who are registered, what about the rest of the people who aren't registered. What harm can possibly come out of trying to get more people to vote. The more qualified people who vote in any election, is a better representation of what Americans want. I am fully in favor of voter id and I am fully in favor getting more qualified people registered to vote.

one thing concerned citizens can do is get involved in True the Vote...google them...they exist to check for fraudulent votes and help register legal voters.

I may be wrong - but I believe I read somewhere that in the 2008 presidential election, 64% of eligible voters voted. The highest turnout in history !!!! And I believe that this November that number will be even higher.

Not to dispute your numbers but getting to the bottom of my point: It is a shame that only 64% of eligible voters voted. What and where were the other 36%? Using your math only 64% of the registered voters determined the outcome of the 2008 election. IMHO if more eligible Americans were registered to vote and then found their way to the polls, a better representation of what direction this country would take would be the outcome. I don't see the downside of helping eligible Americans register and I don't see the downside of more registered voters actually casting their vote.

Personally, I favor the same day registration for voters to be able to register and vote at the same time.

Personally, I favor the same day registration for voters to be able to register and vote at the same time. I disagree with you on this. It makes it far too easy for people who are not eligible to vote to cast ballots - examples, those who are here illegally and those who have been convicted of a felony. Question - If they do not have to present a picture, government issued id, what prevents these people from going from one voting place to another and voting repeatedly?

Sure....I plan to vote for Obama at least 1000 in MN this year..... and 1000 times against the voter ID law that will be on the ballot. Would vote more but there is only so much time in a day.
