Again, what are our chances for fiscal reform, for cuts in government spending?

With this Congress, again the answer seems to be nada, zilch, zero.

Did you all pick up on today's AP report that the House Armed Services Committee added back in billions of dollars in additional spending to the defense budget requested by the Secretary if Defense and the Joint Chiefs. Rather than "listen to the generals", the House committee added back in billions of dollars for an unneeded east coast missle defense system, to keep outdated, unneeded and expensive fleets of Navy ships and Air Firce planes operating, stopped plans for the closure of domestic bases, and cancelled plans to increase health insurance premiums to be paid by active military. The vote of the Republican-chaired committee wasn't close, 56-5.

Immediately following the meeting, both Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Demsey publicly blasted the committee. Panetta said, "if the House tries to restore their favorite programs without regard to an overall military strategy, the cuts will have to come from areas that will affect our overall military readiness. There is no free lunch here. Every dollar that the House adds back in will have to be offset by cuts that will effect national security."

Remember, folks, this is the Republican majority House, the fiscal conservatives, the Tea Party, doing this. Only five of the sixty-one committee members disagreed. No need blaming the Democratic Senate for their lack of fiscal discipline--they don't have any either. This event shines the light on the self-serving, irresponsible greed demonstrated by BOTH political parties. They're all the same, regardless of what they say.

Again I say...throw them all out and let's start over.

VK...for almost two years anything the house does DIES in the senate and is never even discussed let alone be spoken of. Like budgets and such .

I will agree that this congress is really bad.....both houses. But to blame it only on the House and bypass the Senate is a bit unfair and openly bias.

The OP is talking about the House Armed Services Committee adding back in billions of dollars in additional spending to the defense budget for unneeded programs, while cancelling plans to increase health health insurance premiums to be paid by active military.

What does that have to do with the Senate?

"Additional spending for unneeded programs". Hmmmmmmmmmm That's what some folks said prior to World War II. But for FDR who dropped his liberal agenda and switched to supply side economics our factories would have never been able to meet the demands for war time equipment and if they hadn't we would all be driving Japanese or German cars.

Thank God we will soon have a president in the White House that has the know how to set priorites according to the needs of the country, can effectively plan and effectively execute those plans and knows how to create and effectively utilize a budget. You go Mitt

If you have been paying any attention at all, you would have noticed that nothing the house does ever makes it to even discussion in the Senate and the only thing the senate votes on at all are those items that will make the President look better....and I mean that LITERALLY...NOT EXAGGERATING ONE BIT. There will be nothing that will happen to anything until after November unless absolutely pushed to the brink. This is done to give you an others the headlines you seek to punish those you oppose.

People could come on here if they wished to do this silly game and point out the economic bills that the house has passed and they dont even see the light of day in the senate....the budgets that have been sent and never saw the light of day. These are the stupid political games and you are just playing into them. NEITHER SIDE is going to do all this crap and you should be able to know that. I would be happy, as time permits, to list all the bills passed the house that the senate will not even listen to nor discuss let alone even vote on.

WHY.....because both houses are just plain political in total...and there is no leadership from the WH.

That all gets done in the House and is supposed to be also passed in te Senate and then signed by the POTUS.

The bigger question about Romney IF HE IS ELECTED is whether he he can convince both houses of Congress to act as responsibly as you give him credit for.

With this Congress? Want my guess? No way. Nada chance....zilch...zero.

Throw 'em all out and start over!

We are not far from being 100% in agreement. Congress, both house and senate have been and continue to play politics...not interested in doing the countries business. As I said earlier, the house knows whatever they do will die so they now pass things trying to send a message. The Senate wont even consider anything from the house, so like with the tuition thing, why not really get in the press how bad the Reps are.....lets say we will pay with whatever will make the Reps look bad voting against.

It is disgusting.....I hope Romney gets elected just because I know Obama cannot get it done !!!

C'mon, this is all political and ideological one-upsmanship at it's worst. There is NO interest by either party in doing what is right for the country, only winning the ideological battles and getting re-elected.

I say again....throw 'em all out and start over.

No....I thought I said that...the house passes stuff they know will never see the light of day so they send messages with the bills. Senate doing the same thing.

No...I also blame both parties..no doubt about that. I think I am just a bit leaning one way and a bit sensitive because the house DID SEND about 30 bills to the senate on economics and I would have loved to see some conversations at least on them but they never saw any light at all.

nope...I blame both for sure. Getting rid of all of them just isnt going to happen...we just need a leader who is not always "on" politically !

Here are your choices:

Vote for Obama, if you want another 4 years of his presidency.

Don't vote if you want another 4 years of Obama.

Vote for Ron Paul if you want another 4 years of Obama.

Vote for Mitt Romney.

Those are youy choices. All of your smart talk and intellectualizing will not change that fact.

The left wing ideologues will vote for Obama even if he set thier groins on fire.
The rest of you can save the nation and perhaps get spending under control. Go the way of Obama and you, me, our children and their children are lost.

Look at the Greeks and the French. They are demanding their social benefits and expect them, even though they know they are not there.

The choice is yours.

The Secret Service scandal was discovered when a disagreement on how much a prostitute wanted for her services came to light.
She wanted $800.00. The Secret Service Agent offered $30.00.
How ironic is it that the only person in Washington willing to cut spending gets fired?
