Does this signal a change in direction since their elections ? Should we continue down the road we have been with them ? Is Putin trying to put us on notice ?

Their coffers are growing with the natural gas and oil sales. Putin likes hard ball. Cold War II may be in the cards.

Yep and they still have not agreed to the missle defense system we want to build....they keep saying it is a threat to their national security, WHICH IN FACT does sound exactly like the cold war.

i don't know a whole lot or as much as i should about the u.s. federal reserve/banking system [beyond how much $ i lost when wall street collapsed] - BUT - this recent event has me greatly concerned!

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has been given the nod to take over a US bank, the first such US approval for a Chinese firm.
The US Federal Reserve approved state-owned ICBC's plans to acquire the US subsidiary of Bank of East Asia.
BBC News - ICBC gets approval to take over US bank (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18015456)

The US central bank said Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), the biggest bank in China and 70.7pc owned by the government of China, will become a bank holding company.
In addition, China Investment Corporation (CIC), an investment vehicle set up by the Chinese government to invest its massive foreign exchange reserves, and another company that CIC controls called Huijin Investment will be allowed to become bank holdings companies.
They will become holding companies by taking control of The Bank of East Asia in New York, the first time a Chinese bank has been approved to acquire a US bank.

chachacha - i don't think there is anything to worry about re bb&t coming to clolny plaza:

just another ploy to demonstrate the lack of confidence in an American establishment as his country is on the so called economic(?) upswing.

Putin is flaunting his new strength in the world....pursuit and export of oil and natural gas. The USA with it's known history of growing dependence on non USA oil, while not pursuing a back up strategy for independence demonstrates to the powers that be in the world their recognition of a very vulnerable weakness of the USA.

Of the three choices on the pursuit of action scale.(lead, follow or get out of the way) Putin is demonstrating leadership in energy capabilities of his country (like it or not).....the USA certainly is not following sooooooo....only one choice left to describe us ....eh?

Pres Putin told Pres Obama in the phone call that he can’t attend the Camp David meeting owing to “his responsibilities to finalize Cabinet appointments in the new Russian government." However, the Former President is attending in Putin's behalf.

Paranoia is treatable. Telling a half truth is still a lie. Twisting the truth is a character flaw.

my opinion stands as stated. However since it does not agree with yours you resort to the usual character coloring...

"Paranoia is treatable. Telling a half truth is still a lie. Twisting the truth is a character flaw." It obviously does not matter that none of this dribble was intended.

There is apparently a reluctance or an inability to allow ANY another position/belief/opinion....

I agree and you can do that without having to fabricate anything, just tell the truth.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has pulled out of this month's Group of Eight summit in Maryland and will send Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in his place, the White House said on Wednesday.

Putin, who took the oath as Russia's president on Monday, informed President Barack Obama of his decision during a telephone call, citing the need to stay in Moscow to finalize appointments to his cabinet. Instead, the two leaders agreed to meet in Mexico in June

Putin not coming here and now Obama pulls out of APEC in Russia. (Asia Pacific Economic Conference) First time IN HISTORY that a US President will miss this.

Now, they all have their talking points in order so is it "cool" between them and our countries, or is this being nice about being "not cool" ?

The game between the two continue...sort of reminds you of the cold war...

"Russia tested a new long-range missile on Wednesday that should improve its ability to penetrate missile defense systems, the military said, in Moscow's latest warning to Washington over deployment of a missile shield in Europe."

"Russia and the United States are still in talks to agree cooperation on missile defense, but Moscow has warned of further measures if no such deal is reached and Washington refuses to provide binding guarantees its system will not threaten Russia.

At a conference in Moscow this month, senior General Nikolai Makarov said Russia could carry out pre-emptive strikes on future NATO missile defense installations to protect its security."

That's all true and certainly influences how Russia believes they can deal with us. They sense the obvious confused absence of political will, political agreement on almost anything...foreign policy, fiscal issues, domestic social issues, etc. Add to that our obviously compromised military capability and you have the formula for the rest of the world having less reason to listen to what the U.S. thinks or wants. Heck, even Israel seems to be heading off in its own direction, almost forcing us to frantically try to negotiate with Iran in the hope we can prevent Israel from launching an attack. Then we have a POTUS who clearly is looking more "outwards" despite the lack if political support. And a candidate trying to replace him whose foreign policy is more inward-looking and brutally hawkish than we've seen in decades.

Yeah, someone better figure out who we want the U.S. to be when we grow up.

SOOO right. I certainly hope that mucho work is being done "behind the scenes" on this and a number of other pressing international problems.

We are so hung up here in this country with the crazy politics....meantime the world continues without us. And remember, WE are NOT DEALING with our financial house but trying to help Europe. We do have to deal with it, NOT THAT Europe does not affect us, but we just stall around here and have for a number of years

Doesn't it make one wonder about the mindset of Obama and the congress as they navigate around the world acting as though they are running a model country with their fiscal affairs so in order that they can portend to offer help to other countries?

What the other countries know is they can get the political dummies in the USA to give them money and other tangible support that they (the USA) have to borrow 40 cents on a dollar to do. And of course our no budget, no responsibility, no accountability ever growing debt, including financial downgrades do so qualify us to behave like we are still a world leader.

Let there be no mistake, the rest of the world has America's number well in hand and the likes of Russia and China and even the little guys like like Iran and N. Korea can kick sand in our face anytime they feel like it with absolutely no fear of retribution from the current administration.

In their eyes we have become the emasculated phony that is easy prey....and some are doing something about it.

The phrase out of touch is more appropriate for the current administration more so they try to pedal about Romney.

If Obama is re-elected (I can hardly type the words), based on his continuing his agenda and especially as a lame duck POTUS with no election concerns he will drive us FURTHER into becoming a second rate entity on the world stage....than we are already.

The new book out about him is appropriately titled....The Amateur!

BTK....I apologize for so dramatically changing the subject but if you dontmind I would like to add, since you mentioned the new book, a little bit about our MSM in this country.......

"Edward Klein’s new book about President Obama, The Amateur, has already made some news, particularly with regard to allegations that an ally of Obama’s offered the odious Reverend Jeremiah Wright a $150,000 bribe to keep his mouth shut during the 2008 presidential campaign. And the title of the book is a quote from Bill Clinton, who was said to be urging his wife to challenge Obama for the Democrat nomination in 2012.

That’s pretty sensational stuff, but the media has been studiously ignoring Klein’s book. NewsBusters noted on Tuesday that none of the mainstream media networks have interviewed Klein on the air, or offered a serious discussion of his work. ABC News very briefly mentioned the “amateur” quote from Clinton on their website, but that’s about it.

Needless to say, that’s very different from the way the mainstream press treats provocative books about people they dislike.

It looks like the public hasn’t been ignoring Klein’s book, however, because Regnery Publishing (around whose metaphorical water cooler we Human Events writers gather) announced today that The Amateur will debut at Number One on the New York Times nonfiction and e-book bestseller lists for June 03."
