We will be arriving in TV (St. James) as permanent residents in early June.
We need HELP!

1. Any suggestions on cable companies or satellite?

2. Where is a good local place to purchase a HDTV?

3. What cell phone service appears to work best?

4. We have a new house, any suggestions on sealing the garage floor?

5. Any other "words of wisdom?"

Hello and welcome! We have Comcast cable...no complaints so far. We bought our HDTV at SAMs Club (best price at the time). Hubby and I both have AT&T as cell phone service (I never drop calls, he does...I think it is his phone). I have heard that sealing grout before first year inspection is a no no...maybe someone can speak on this topic. We have not done our garage floor yet.

Words of wisdom...when we moved down here in December I wanted everything done TODAY! Then weeks later after exhausting myself I remembered that I am retired and have the rest of my life to do things! Enjoy each day, enjoy your new friends and neighbors! I love living here...I get up each day feeling happy! So make sure you stop to smell the roses!

We live in St. Charles, so it is close to your new location:

1.) We have CenturyLink for Internet and DirecTV for television. Have never had a problem with either

2.) Sam's is probably the cheapest place to purchase an HDTV, but BestBuy has a good selection too. If you're not a Sam's Club member, just go there and look around and then go to Best Buy and they will price match.

3.) We have Verizon for cellphone service. Verizon seems to work the best in most parts of TV. I have a neighbor with AT&T and he has to stand in the driveway to use his cellphone (iPhone)

4.) Personally, I highly recommend sealing the garage floor. Do this BEFORE you move into the house. You'll want this done before you have anything in the garage. We used Tim the Toolman to seal our floor. He does a great job!

Good Luck on your move!

Comcast...so far, so good.
Best Buy, Sams....
AT&T
Garage floor important to do before. Once you load it up, it's hard to do. It was #1 on our list...the day we closed! Tim the Toolman...great job.
See you in St. James!

Direct TV - no problem
Comcast - phone & internet
AT& T cell - coverage is not the greatest, but I have had them forever.
Haven't sealed garage floor.

Advice - keep the checkbook handy the first year...seems there is always something new you will want to do.
Enjoy the lifestyle!

Direct TV no problems until big electricial storms in summer.

Verizon for all three, house phone, cell phone and internet. Good but not cheap.

Haven't sealed garage floor. I personally don't think we will. It is up in the air for me how much dirt comes in from the garage floor. The air is filled with dirt down here. You almost have to dust everything in your house every three days and vacuum frequently so your carpets don't get filthy.

Sam's and Best Buy for TV.

Take your time with other additions to your home. Listen to what your new friends and neighbors have to say and of course TOTV is a wealth of information. Some of it is correct, some not.

Relax and enjoy. You have just gone through a very stressful time to downsize, pack, and move your whole life here.

You are among people who care and will try to help you if we can.

Interesting that you could get phone and internet from Comcast without their TV service. Can you say the price for that combo?

We are not sealing or coating our garage floor either.
Its a garage floor and we have no plans to eat off it.
You will still get grass clippings etc. in the garage no matter what the floor.
