View Full Version : Hail storm destroyed my outdoor lights

Last year there was a hail storm and I was home to witness it. The hail coming down was really big, about the size of marbles. I heard it pelting the roof. The only thing I could think of at the time was that I was glad my car was in the garage. I never thought about the outdoor lights.

Last week a neighbor told me that almost everyone in the neighborhood replaced their outdoor lights because the hail had knocked holes in them. So I checked mine and found holes in every one of them. The only exception was the one on the lanai.

The lights I have, that came with the house, are made of plastic and plastic weakens with age. So I plan on replacing them with aluminum. Pike's Electric Lighting, in The Villages, has a sale on outdoor lights and 5 outdoor lights (plus new photo cell for lamp post) will cost me about $342.26 plus tax. (That includes the lamp post, one on each side of the garage, one on the lanai, and one on the side of the house.)

Has anyone else had this done? If so, who did you get to replace your lights and how much did it cost? Do you have someone you would recommend?
Thanks.

For something like this, I highly recommend Alan Byer (352/233-8567). He's a retired electrical contractor, knows his stuff and his prices are fair.

Lenhart Electrical all the way ! Had them replace our front lamp post... excellent work. Make sure that who ever does your work is licensed.
