Silt Fence

We're looking to have a silt fence installed along part of our property. The lot next to ours is empty, and the dirt, sand and debris from the lot keeps blowing onto our property. We can deal with some of the trash, but would like to keep as much of the silt, sand and dirt away as possible. Our landscaper does not provide this service. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Call the warranty dept. they should be able to take care of the problem. I would have the developer install it there is no need for you do the work.

I would have the developer install it, too, but we've aapproached the developer twice since we moved here late January, and they will not pay for a silt fence, so we're looking to have one done on our own.

Call the warranty dept. they should be able to take care of the problem. I would have the developer install it there is no need for you do the work.

You may find that fences of any kind (except maybe invisible dog fences) are against your deed restrictions. Even if allowed, you will probably need Architectural Review Committee approval before you install the fence. Dot your "i's" and cross your "t's" before you invest your money in a fence.

I understand your frustration. Those of us with open lots near us suffer from the sand blowing, but south of 466 it is a bigger peoblem because of the expanse of vacant areas.

Here are two things to consider; the first is that the lot may be built on soon next to you and the other is that June 1 is the official beginning of the rainy season and a good dosing of rain daily should keep most of the sand from blowing.

And if course I just thought of a third. A lot of the sand is going up and over where a fence would stop.

I am sorry for your mess... but by this time next year it will be a memory.

I recommend that you install it. While construction on the lot next to yours is underway, the foot traffic on your lawn will increase (our houses are so close together) and your turf will suffer. This happened to us. Six months later and I'm still trying to "rehab" the grass along that side of our house. I know it will eventually recover, but I wish I had taken preventive steps.
