Spanish Springs Town Square
The Spanish Springs Town Square will be closed for maintenance beginning May 30, 2012, for approximately three to four weeks. During this time there will be no entertainment on the Square; however, all of the restaurants, shops and other entertainment opportunities will be available during that time. We appreciate your patience and understanding that this maintenance results in well maintained facilities that will provide enjoyment for years to come.

I was talking with some of the guys at the watering hole about what is happening with Spanish Springs. It was rather disturbing and I would like to know if there is truth in what they were saying.
It was said that all the trees in the square (where the seating is) will be removed.
It was also said that all the water features such as the spouts and pools of the square will be removed.
I find both of these hard to believe but the guy was very insistent they are true. Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge?

Just a FYI..the monthly Cruise-In, June 16th, will be set up in the parking lot behind the Rialto Theater. There will also be a stage for entertainment and drink Kiosks. The Shaka Dance Crew will be performing our Rock n Roll show so come check it out!

DandyGirl, I will be in TV during the monthly Cruise-In on June 16. What time will the Shaka Dance Crew be performing so I can put that on my "To Do" list?
And what time does the Cruise-In start and end on June 16? Thanks in advance.

It has to be much more then repaving the streets around the square. That would take no more then a couple days, maybe 3 with lane painting. But to close for 3 or 4 weeks there has to be a lot more work planned.

I'm convinced they are doing it only because we are finally making our first visit for the month of June. :censored:

I'm sure your correct in your thinking.Spanish Springs needs a real estate facelift,it needs to be aesthetically updated.Hopefully during this closure they will make improvements to have a more vibrant and invigorating looking area.Currently it just looks antiquated, indistinct, and listless, and gives residence outside of the Spanish Springs area little motivation to visit. Now with a third square in development,it is even more essential to update Spanish Springs and give it the required facelift it needs to compete.

I just read two pages of some very funny stuff (thinking there must be some facts here somewhere) but no answers to the original question. We all must be bored.

I emailed Janet Tutt to get the scoop on what they are planning to do for the maintenance period in June. Here is her email, so this should quell any rumors.
From Janet:
Good Morning again,
Ok..so, here is the list:
Resurfacing of the Square’s pavement, remove concrete within the internal area and sidewalk connectors, and reconstructed with new field pavers.
Reconstruction of existing Audio Equipment Enclosure (this is being accomplished by The Villages but they are using the closed square time to do the work so as not to disrupt a second time).
There will be a revision of the landscape material, there are 16 understory trees being removed (they have too low of a canopy, we have been having serious bee hive issues with the current trees and they create a maintenance mess on the square) and trees being replaced…there will be a net loss of 12 trees along the perimeter of the gazebo within the Square. The landscape designer has incorporated the four new trees in strategic places to marry with the new pavers/design.
Relocation of plumbing, electrical and irrigation lines.
This work is all WITHIN the Square area.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
I believe the “plans” are at Property Management’s office if you or anyone would like to view them. They modifications did have to go through the Town of Lady Lake and the application (incorporating the changes) has been approved. So we are good to go!
Have a great day.
Janet

A lot of us are very happy with Spanish Springs. We prefer it over LSL. Brownwood will be way to far away for us to want to travel to except for an initial visit to seew what it looks like.

Thanks for the information. No answer, though, on the removal of the water features in the town square except something about removal of concrete and some words of plumbing. Too bad about removal of trees. They provided some needed shade. Spanish Springs is a real nice square.
