My husband and I had gone to Ocala Eye for 4 years and both grew tired of the long wait not only in the waiting room but also once you were inside an exam room. We have even had the first appointment of the day at 7:30AM and had to wait 2+ hours to finish the appointment.

We both went to Mid-Florida Eye at different times and both had a wonderful experience. The staff is excellent, the office runs like a clock, and they are way better than Ocala Eye. We would highly recommend you giving them a try if you are tired of the long waits at Ocala Eye.

We just arrived home from OcalaEye Surgical location a few hours ago where my wife had her second eye operated on today. With the several appointments we've been through, the most time we've spent for the pre and post-ops at the two non-surgical locations we've been to was about an hour. While waiting for her (pre-ops locations) I've seen most others in and out in even less time than she was. Do keep in mind though that what I viewed was a pretty limited sampling of people coming and going.

Also, with my special needs, they went out of their way to accomodate me while I had to wait for her during the two operations. At the first time I thought it took a little longer than normal and I did have an issue with their telling me to go get the car because she was just about finished. 45 minutes later she was brought out and I was steaming. (both ways) She said something about that more than once to staff and today things went much faster. I wasn't even to my car before she was walked out the front door. Overall, I'd probably give OE a B for their customer service and an A+ on the performance of the doctor himself.

Please note that I have no reason what-so-ever to question or doubt what you've said about Mid Florida Eye and I'm glad the two of you had the wonderful experience with them that you did. With our luck we would have probably been the exception to the rule had we been referred there! I did though want to give an account of our experience with OcalaEye!

Ocala Surgical Center runs like a clock. In the Villages office you may have to wait. However, we will wait to be taken care of by the best! I have 35 years of healthcare experience.

I have been a patient there as well. The very first time I went for an exam I experienced the wait/wait/wait thing. I think total I was there for 3 hours! I had to go back for another more intensive exam and also had a wait. From those I determined I should bring a book next time as I'd also observed it was a very busy practice. The next year I went for my yearly exam I brought the book...and barely had time to open it as my time there was pretty much on schedule and hardly any waiting. So it could just have been the day! Maybe the doctor had surgeries...or maybe he got behind for a variety of reasons. I know that some doctor's offices consistently abuse patient's time but don't write off an office from one or even two experiences.

I can't comment on the wait, but I recall my eye doctor up north giving me the advice to, if posible, find an eye doctor down here who was from the University of Miami which is the highest rated opthamology school in the country. Dr. Armstrong from Ocala Eye actually taught there. If an extra few minutes or even hours gets me the best care, I'll take it.

We went for my wifes post op followup today and noted in previous post. Good news is my wife got called in pretty quick, just minutes after we arrived. Bad news, I then sat there waiting for her for more than an hour and a half. The doctor was with her for about 5 minutes! Then more good news, wihile waiting I had time to do some reading, visit the John/Jenette and twiddle my thumbs!

So glad, miffy, that you and your husband found a practice that you are happy with.

As for me and my husband, we've been patients of Ocala Eye for over 7 years. Neither of us has ever had an unreasonable wait. A comprehensive eye exam takes some time and waiting while your eyes dialate.

My husband had both of his cataract surgeries with Ocala Eye and has had absolutely fantastic results. I had my Kindle with me for both his surgeries, and hardly noticed the time I waited. I was expecting, however, to be there awhile those times.

One afternoon, totally out of the blue, I began seeing lots of floaters. With one call to Ocala Eye, they had me in to see Dr. Armstrong within an hour, and I was scheduled for laser surgery with their retina specialist, Dr. Sami, the next morning. As a side note, Dr. Sami probably has the most impressive educational bio I've seen.

I, personally, would be more than willing to wait, if necessary, for the attention and results we've received from Ocala Eye over the years.

While I know I'm generalizing, Americans seem to have a lack of understanding of the meaning of 'triage.' We tend to want what we want, and we want it NOW! They key phrase here in the quote above is unreasonable wait [emphasis in the quote and in my response is mine]. I have been a patient of Ocala Eye for 4.5 years and have had short waits AND long waits, the latter often the result of an emergency coming in and taking precedence, according to the principles of triage.

For many decades I was the patient of an ophthalmologist in Boston who after his death at age 94 (the nerve!) was named one of the top ten physicians of the twentieth century in the WORLD! At times I shared the waiting room with the late Ella Fitzgerald, the Sultan of Indonesia, and others. Did I have to wait? You're darn right I did--sometimes as much as four hours--while at other times in and out in a half hour. Was it worth the wait, both there and at Ocala Eye? Absolutely! I have only one eye, and it has three sight-threatening conditions.... (Actually I have another eye, but I bought it in Philadelphia, so it IS my eye, the plus being that since it's made of plastic, it requires no medical care!)

This is not to say that other ophthalmological practices are not equally competent, but having to wait a reasonable amount of time (reasonable by my definition) is not one of the means by which I judge competency....
