When selling and building/buying, did you sell and move your belongings into storage and rent? Did you try to coordinate the sale with your purchase? Did you close down there and then return home to close? What worked? What didn't work? What would you suggest?

I bought and closed online...never went to closing....Sold everything and bought new....We were lucky enough to have cash to pay for everything in Florida and we can take our time to sell up north...

After we were in contract on our home up North we came down and bought the lot, picked out the house and all the finishings. Ordered furniture from southern Lifestyles went home and started downsizing set up the yard sale, packed the POD and came down here a week before our closing in TV as the POD and all our belongings had been picked up. We left POA with our attorney for closing up North. Had previously arranged for a bridge loan from Citizens Mortage which we needed as our closing up North came a week after we closed on our new home in TV.

We sold our home in upstate NY in 10/2004 before we purchased in The Villages in 2/2005. We had to wait until my husband retired so we rented a townhome for a year and moved here permanently in 10/2005. We have always been planners with a low tolerance for stress so this worked out beautifully for us.

I sold my house in NY after my husband passed away in Jan. 2004. Sold many possessions in a tag sale. Rented a condo for 5 years. Came to TV to visit relatives in April 2009 and bought a new house in August and never looked back.

We came down last July to "look" as we were retiring in December. Found our home in five days! Went back home to VA. Put the house on the market end of Oct. Brought some household things down to TV Nov 1. Had to go back to Va because our house sold in three weeks! We were soooo lucky! Made settlement Dec 28...we were here Dec 29! Everything just fell into place!

We can't sell here without taking a real hit in our market, we're renting our house Aug or Sept 1st. Turns out that market is strong.

We are now going thru all our furniture etc. asking our kids if they want anything and what we don't want will go in garage sale on be donated.

But we have enough furniture that will work in the new home and we just want to keep certain pieces for a variety of reasons.

So we'll pack up and have the movers put everything into local storage near TV.

During the build we'll bring our RV down or rent short term.

Purchased lot, house started. Sold home in PA right away, furniture in storage up there, moved in with daughter then went to Recreation Plantation in our R-V for a week until we closed. The afternoon of closing we painted our home before the furniture came the next day. Everything went smoothly but I'd be sure you sell your house before you move. Nice to have that money in hand.

We put a deposit on a lot in TV when we got a contract on our house in GA. Spent the time until closing downsizing and packing everything in PODs. After closing came down planning to live in our RV while we built. BUT found a great house the day we arrived and bought it instead. Lived in the RV 3 weeks till we closed. Everything went like clock work.

While visiting my sister and her husband in March of last year, I decided that I was ready to change my life. By July I had found and closed on the home of my dreams. Since I was not fully ready to retire I rented it out until April 30th,
2012. I spent from July until April getting ready for the move. I closed down my business and sold my home and furniture up in New York. I arrived here on May 2nd to start this next chapter of my life. Everything fell into place once I made my decision to buy.
