hi,
Has anyone taken the trip from Vancouver to Calgary? I plan on going in September and wanted some feedback on service etc. Even if you have been on the Rocky Mountaineer itself what are your thoughts? Thanks!

Have driven that route a few times, don't know about train. Driving is best imho because you can stop anywhere, do anything. Much to see in both cities and in between.

It is a wonderful trip, either by train or car. 75% of the trip is mountains, always have snow caps on them. Mid way, go tho Kelowna: Start of many orchards, winery's, lakes, rivers and beauty. Spent couple of days at Lake Louise. Lakes are emerald Green , banked with the large mountain peaks. If you are into horse back riding, hiking or canoe trips: do it!

Banff is a good two day stay: Lots of hotels, hot springs, golf at the Banff springs hotel, you will be joined with many, many animals. Do not feed the bear as they are unpredictable. A nice stay is Johnson's Canyon, just 10 miles west of Banff. Nice cabins, good food and just breath of real fresh air.
Nice water falls.

Calgary is a party town, much like Dallas or Denver. All the girls have long legs, so ladies hang on to your man. Lots of country and western bars and dance clubs.

Vancouver is awesome! Stanley park is a must see. But you time will pass so fast in Vancouver there is too much to do and see. Have fun, you will come back.

Good mornibg!
Thanks for the great suggestios Superuke! We booked a couple days extra ahead of the trip. Sounds like it was a good idea. We stay a couple of days in Whistler before returning to Vancouver for the train ride. Have been to the Calgary Stampede a few years ago so will fly right back to Buffalo ( no extra days ). This is probably a time trip so I want as much info as I can get!
How about you Carla B? Sounds like a pretty nice trip doesn't it?

It does! I've always loved train rides, even on Amtrak. The Rocky Mountaineer sounds first class. When in September are you going?
