I hate to start a whole new thread on this but:

We would prefer to stick with the standard washer dryer and avoid the bells and whistles so that if something needs to be fixed, it isn't an expensive fix. Who has a Maytag, Whirlpool, Amana, Speedqueen, GE ....regular dependable washer and dryer that they think is a no brainer. I need to finish ordering the appliances today so any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks as always.

I have had the old dependable Whirlpool washer and dryers for years. This past year I had to replace the washer and decided to try the new Maytag, low detergent, low water model and we are very pleased with it.

We purchased from Lowes, free delivery, free set up. Excellent service and price.

There are so many; Do you know what are the model numbers?

We brought with us our Maytag washer and dryer and it was at least ten years old. Still chuggin' along, like us.

Maytag is now made by someone else. Anyone know who?

Whirlpool owns the Maytag brand. They were aligned with Amana at one time, but they are now owned by Whirlpool. We have a 17-18 year old Maytag washer and dryer set, and the only maintenance I've had to do was a new belt on the dryer about a year ago. Great products, but I'd be wary of buying new models due to quality concerns.

The new type washers are so much better for your clothes and totally water and energy efficient. Less detergent used also, it's a high concentrated type. Plus it's fun to watch the washer level the clothes and figure out how much water tp use !

I finally went with the simple Whirlpool models. No electronic issues. The washer washes and the dryer dries. Neither has 7,000 settings. :)

We bought the Maytag Bravos X recently and love it! It is a top-loader which I like and has hand wash cycle on it which I love plus even a bulk cycle which I use for heavy towels and even have washed my light weight comforter in it. At first it was hard to get used to the low water level it uses on the whites setting, but if you read the little manual that comes with it you'll soon realize what settings you need for which types of clothes. It is sooo much better than our old model. It doesn't beat the color out of my clothes on hand wash cycle. Good luck.

We bought an LG front loader and I love it. It does save on water and I believe it does a better job. The base to go under it was pricey. I lived without it for 3 years and when we moved here I bought the base for both the washer and dryer. I do like it but had to grit my teeth when I bought it.

I love my front loader for the water savings but the smell if you close the door is awful. Could not stand it if we left for 3 months

You are right. I always leave the washer door open after each wash. It can get stinky if you leave it closed.

I have a Samsung front loader with steam cycle which I love. I intend to get the same in TV when my house there is finished. Haven't started the build yet though... I have heard of people saying the washers smell, but I have not had that problem. Lucky, I guess. The front loaders definitely save on water and detergent though! Happnow I am glad you are happy with your new purchase!

I have had a Whirlpool front loader for several years now. We leave the washer door open after we use it to allow the inside to dry completely between uses. No smell at all. Our washer is located in our garage so having the door open is no problem. I also bought the washer base cabinet with the washer. When I got it home and installed, I was suprised to find that you could not place a standard size bottle of HE detergent inside the drawer standing upright. I wrote a letter of complaint to Whirlpool. Since they recommend you use only HE detergent and even provided a sample of Tide HE liquid detergent, you would think that they would have checked out the size of the standard container. What else would you want to store in that drawer (the one gallon size of bleach will not fit either)? I believe they may have increased the height of the drawer in later models.
