That's a tough neighborhood... I was there on business once and saw some strange objects on poles on the sidewalks. I asked what they were and was told they were cameras the would swing to the sound of gun shots!

Whoa!!!!

Unfortunately that's just within the city limits and doesn't include any "activity" in suburban areas.

Anyone know the safest driving route from the south suburbs to the Museum of Science and Industry?

(might be to drive to near the Loop and get on the Stevenson Expressway Eastbound and then backtrack on Lake Shore Drive?)

When I was a kid on da south side we would ride our bikes up Stoney Island without any problems. I'm sure that way now would be asking for trouble.

You could take I-57 up to the Dan Ryan and then south on Lake Shore Drive and be OK. My wife and I drove that route to U.S. Cellular Field this morning to pick up Sox tickets for our grandson and me for Friday's game. The problems seem to be in certain neighborhoods vs. out on the heavily traveled expressways.

You could still ride your bike up Stoney Island but you'd have to pedal REAL REAL fast and do it during the day.:)

Piece of cake, Taught school inner-city of Deroit.

My wifes cousin taught/ teaches in Detroit too.
She asked her what she does with the "serious" students and she said we call the police.
We laughed because my wife meant the serious academic students.

Flint- nuff said!

I'd feel safer walking around downtown at night than in Detroit, Flint and Highland Park (MI).

Leaving Orlando but love the town.

I just saw a report on the news about 2 possibly unrelated shootings in Seattle. The report said last year the city had 20 homicides and to date in 2012 they've reported 19. No city is immune to this unfortunate situation.

For those of you (or your family and friends) planning a summer trip to Chicago, the "tourist" areas of Chicago are safe. Just keep an eye on your purse, wallet and valuables as you would in any large area. The Chicago area needs tourist dollars! Only 8 more days and I will be in TV for a visit! :pepper2:

And that's a place where private ownership of firearms is almost impossible to obtain. Wonder who is shooting who and where are all the firearms coming from?

I heard a rumor over at Katie Belles that the NRA is supplying the drug dealers and the pimps.

JUST KIDDING.

I couldn't let that go by, Fig! :1rotfl:

I also met several Republicans here that don't have guns or want them.

OH boy.

Now I've done it.

Now, Now, GG, you all know that the NRA is a liberal organization. :1rotfl: That is why I belong to it. :clap2: Remember, "Train with the Best, To Be The Best."

Good point. We don't hesitate going into the city for dining and entertainment. But just like in any city we watch where we go and keep our eyes open.

Most of the aforementioned shootings are in neighborhoods (south and west sides primarily) and according to police are gang related in a majority of the cases.

Watch WESH2 news!

I do and our neighbors here in Baldwin Park are a newscaster for WESH and her husband does the weather.

Are you serious?

Ever been to Orlando proper?

I don't know where you travel but we have never felt unsafe in Orlando; OK wouldn't go to Pine Hills or Parramore at night but did during the day to do real estate appraisals.

WESH2 has a drug deal or murder in "Orange County" about every night! No different than Chicago,Hartford,Dallas,Seattle,LA etc etc. If you think Orlando is "safe" you could be a dead fool don't wander outside of the tourist areas. Orlando's crime rate is twice the national average in almost all categories. go to city-data.com

OMG; you have never been to Orlando have you?
Have you ever walked around Lake Eola, gone to The Grand Bohemium, theater, museums, Leu Gardens or Winter Park?
Actually the tourist areas (I Drive) are worse and you do know Disney etc. is not in Orlando.
Good thing bars on windows are not allowed or I'm guessing you would have them in TV; right?
You really need to visit Orlando's downtown and the neighborhoods.

I've been all over Orlando ... It's nice, not my favorite city I guess I would say NYC or San Antonio are my favorites. I'm saying crime in ORLANDO is high. It's a high crime area! Factually it is a HIGH CRIME AREA. Thats all I'm saying. So is Miami. Miami is beautiful but it is a high crime area.

Bars on windows in TV?? get a grip you're missing the point! I'm saying it's a high crime area and watch WESH2 news for the horrible stories or ask your neighbor to tell you.

You might want to go back and read this thread if you think Orlando or Central Florida is so great. Seems that no one in Florida Law Enforcement or Political Power cares about this, they don't vote and they are throw away people. It's a shame.

No city is "safe". Worked in Baltimore for 30 years, and the news media would brag how "safe" Baltimore was because they had fewer than 300 killings in one year. If the city did not have the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center to put the criticaly wounded back together, the numbers would reach the hundreds, possibly the thousands. The numbers wounded were never part of the statistics. The public, tourist, never hear about that. The Baltimore Inner Harbor is a revenue machine for the city. Currently, Baltimore is experiencing gang flash mobs, which are robbing businesses, attacking civilians, and are becoming almost impossible to control. This is happening during the day and at night. Check out the frightening Police audio on Youtube.
