Washer/Dryer in garage?

Have a choice to put the washer dryer inside or in the garage with the slop sink.

The other factor is the noise.

Also think about getting doing them stackable.

Doing so will give us more room to expand the bath room.

Any pros or cons with this arrangement?

We closed on a house in TV in April with the washer and dryer in the garage. The only negative I found was when it was hot outside it got even hotter in the garage when the dryer was on. It still beats climbing a flight or two of steps from the basement in the home we have in Cleveland!

We have a CYV with the W?D in the garage. We are thinking about getting stackable which we have up north and love. If you did that it would give more room inside for you to fill up! Don't find that having them in the garage is a problem and appreciate having more inside room. That's my 2 cents.

I have my washer/dryer outside in a separate room off my garage in my other house in Fla. It has worked out fine, but if I had the choice I would put them inside. The heat and humidy out there take a toll on them and I believe shorten the working lifetime of the machines. They also start to rust after a few years. It's possible to manage this but I'd personally prefer to avoid the problem in the first place! Stacking them inside would be a good solution!

We have a CYV with the W/D in the garage and have no issues with the location. Obviously, we do not do the washer or dryer in the middle of the day during the summer. We do enjoy the quietness in the home along with the extra space inside.

We had a CYV with the washer/dryer in the garage. Now we have a house with inside laundry. I much prefer the convenience of having a laundry room close to the master bedroom.

the heat and humidity that the w/d create inside themselves is far more extreme than the inside of the garage itself

I think the slop sink in the garage makes sense not only for laundry dripping on the floor but for those handy man owners working on their hobbies in the garage going thru the house to wash up.

So the heat & humidity can dissipate within the larger garage area.

Noise out of living area.

Better use of living space

Negative is convenience

Actually, the laundry room off the garage is well vented, also with an exhaust fan. The dryer vents outside. However, being when the exhaust is not on there is a lot of humidity in both places as the air just sits stagnant. I first noticed the hinges on both appliances starting to rust and asked my neighbors about that. A common addiction I was told. There is a treatment you can spray to retard rust, but why do this if you can extend the life of your machines by having them indoors? I have also wondered if they work as efficiently out there as opposed to in, but that's a question that will go unanswered, I'm afraid! Having lived with the situation both ways, my preference would be to have them indoors.

I would have them inside.....we are living temporarily in a patio villa and I REALLY don't like the W/D in the garage. I REALLY wanted a separate laundry room in my new house, but the model we chose has it in the walkthrough from the garage to the kitchen.....but I had it that way for 12 years in Hunters Creek, so I am used to that.

We have our w/d inside and so glad we do. The garage gets incredibly hot...too hot to do anything in. I can't imagine doing laundry out there. I would opt for it inside and give up the space.

Probably so if it its incredibly hot in there.

That may be more of an issue if the garage faces south into sun rather than north, where it would be cooler.

Also depends on ventilation and insulation of the garage perhaps.

Oh and of course the size of the floor plan.

If your washer ever has a leak or the hose goes, you will wish you had put it in the garage.

We've got a patio villa with the W/D inside. Bottom-of-the-totem-pole equipment - and boy howdy are they noisy!!! But in the balance of things, we like them inside the house in spite of the racket when they're running.

Note: Current patio villas are being built with a pocket door to close off the laundry area from the kitchen, I believe. We don't have that in ours - it would undoubtedly help to cut down on some of the noise.

When we were preparing to "house shop"...a good friend who has lived here for a long time and has a villa told me...."You will want to look for a bigger garage (we got a house with a double-garage) and be sure to have your laundry facilities inside. I'm glad we adhered to that advice! The garage can really be HOT at times plus stinky with the motor/gas smells. We have an actual laundry room and have quite a bit of storage in there. There are elements of a villa that I love (we have a cottage series)...but thinking for us we made the right decision.

Hint:> Don't wash ur clothes when u have company over!!
